  1. I would not be surprised if Joko went out of his way to make sure no one knows how he pulled off nigh-immortality and the ability to awaken sentient slaves. He was clearly an old pro at editing history when he got done with Elona. I don't have problems with being open - the Commander can't solve everything. It doesn't hurt to make sure if you close off stuff you leave as much new stuff open for future development, either.
  2. I do apologize, I remember a couple high-ranking Mesmers in the Pact, but generally seem to see lightning or fire versus purple mind-beams, could just be self-reinforcing (Not always a lot of time to see what the NPCs are doing as I save their hide) Has anyone ever noted the human prospensity for mesmer magic in-universe? A lot of people seem (often Rytlock, at length) seem annoyed by mesmerism versus necessarily concerned but not necessarily linked to humans. I wonder if the human war record of the last century brought down mesmer's reputation to be considered 'less' of a combat discipline.
  3. I think considering mesmerism as 'master of illusion magic' is a lie mesmers (who have their own secret society and we probably should be more worried about that) propagate to make themselves look less dangerous - given Chaos Storm or their portal abilities, 'Distortion' is probably a better name for their school; playing with both minds and physics. The White Mantle, secretive as they are, seems to be one of the few opposing organizations with a large body of combat casters that are more often mesmers than elementalists (the Orders' average magic-user on the street seems to have spec'd Air) but that could be the result of their training focus. Also worth keeping in mind. The Commander's combat abilities are almost precognitive regardless of profession.
  4. Being good in a fight doesn't seem to be tied to how you do it, and skill and power, even in magic, don't seem to be directly related. Though top mesmers have pulled off impressive non-combat feats of illusion and masking (see, anything Jennah does not directly related to politicking). Kas is generally considered (in story) pretty good for a mesmer and is more notable for her skill at detecting illusions, dealing with liars and other mesmers, and her own illusions but doesn't seem to be considered one of Dragon Watch's top combatants. This is a guild that is generally considered more than a match for an alerted enemy fortification with even a few members, so that may be seriously relative. Trahearne, for example, doesn't seem to be THAT powerful a necromancer despite the Firstborn mystique, as opposed to being extremely skilled in detecting and countering Zhaitan's version of his school of magic. There's several times in the story he explicitly relies on the Commander to handle the fighting aspects, or take the lead in a combat situation, and as NPCS go, he's not bad in a scrap. Tyria's dangerous though, you're outside a city, you're probably fighting at some point.
  5. I like this thread, and the Norn stuff is fascinating. Agreeing the Norn focus seems to be parent/child versus partners. Possibly a side effect of their more nomadic existence pre-Jormag, with very small groups in infrequent communication? Charr could be argued have a sort of group marriage in the warband - the sexual side seems to be explicitly set up to be more freeform (combined with the social pressure to concentrate on the relationships in the warband versus family). Doesn't help getting the charr to talk about their feelings is like pulling teeth. I know Rytlock's not a good example of an average charr (or a model charr, either) but the charr who seems best at talking about what drives her is Almorra and General Soulkeeper walked away from the Legions, more or less to start her own. She's technically an apostate. It is interesting the best long-term relationships we've seen are Asura. They really try to play up emotional detachment (see the bunny Asura) and krewes don't have the same social impact of warbands, switching isn't nearly as big a deal. I guess when they do encounter something permanent it's a very big deal.
  6. Also if you open the job to Sylvari, you have to open it to Choya. No one wants that. I have to wonder what sort of larger organization Elona will have after chaos, branding, forcible exposure to other races and the Pact, and centuries of Joko's abuse will have. The natural tendency will be an absolute ruler but they won't have Joko's advantages, so I suspect a lot of chaos. The Sunspear are well set to eventually end up in a good position so I can see them at least temporarily 'hiring' adventurers of all types to help out to bring stability. Whether they stay open or not as Elona stabilizes is an open question.
  7. Rytlock honestly would only take the position of Kahn-Ur if it lets him one-on-one something big and tough and then force the paperwork onto everyone else. I'm fond of the big guy, but he's not the best at responsibility.
  8. Construct and storms, it's entirely possible the Sons of Savnir are lending aid, especially with the construct versus the storm Bangar may not even be aware of it, they have their own shamans after all, and they have their own reasons for wanting to isolate Vigil encampments (the best resupply route runs through Grothmar, it's why Almorra is there). I think the main reason for bringing in the Commander is to ensure getting Braham by calling in Dragon's Watch. Outsider observers note Braham has a lot of influence in Norn society, but Braham doesn't seem to be aware of the leverage he holds with his people. An invite to him alone and NOT bringing along the Champion of Tyria's Elder Dragon could look suspicious. Bangar also seems convinced the Commander has as much control over Aurena as they do their raptor, so before going for Jormag, Bangar probably wanted to pick up some Elder Dragon riding masteries, as it were.
  9. Braham does not seem to have handled Jormag running away or hiding himself well after whatever effort was put up to catch up to take out the Elder Dragon. He couldn't even think of a cover or a Plan B and it seems Braham blue-screened when everything he'd built in his mind as proving himself to Eir's legacy and legend stopped in its tracks. Ryland's observation there's plenty of other deeds besides Eirson Braham could use as his last name and Braham brushing it off is quite telling. I suspect they have a far better opinion of Braham than he realizes.
  10. It's an interesting question - my charr is Iron Legion Vigil so have been on the frontlines of the ghost situation and dealing with the humans AND dealing with the Flame Legion. Given all characters are seriously into uniting the races, and the Vigil specifically defend the charr/human peace talks, the charr finding an identity beyond their old enemies is something to be worked too. Notably with the human peace treaty and adventurers from other races coming in, the Flame Legion has been seriously knocked backwards as a fighting force as one example of what even was accomplished pre-Pact. Also with # Elder Dragons - Aurene > 0 means much bigger problems to deal with. If the Flame Legion can be reformed as 'the magic Legion' instead of a desperate hunt for something bigger than themselves to believe in, that's a huge benefit to charr and the other Legions, and frees up more forces for the Pact. Also - commander isn't worried TOO much about the charr having to find an identity that isn't fighting at all, that simply doesn't seem to be a possibility on Tyria.
  11. I suspect given Rytlock's major issues surrounding Sohothin, my theory is that it comes down to Ryland will need to wield Sohothin to keep the corruption in check; forcing Rytlock to decide between the weapon that has defined his adult life, or the son he doesn't know.
  12. Rytlock has always pushed for cooperation even in the period's when he and Logan couldn't stand each other's presence. Isn't Gwen legendary for the number of Charr she's taken out, and the Mists version clearly in her prime? I think it was more if Hulagu Kahn's ghost showed up to work with you on civic improvement projects in Baghdad. There would be some natural trepidation.
  13. I've been playing for a bit and feel like I've found a gameplay I really enjoy in GW2, but my availability is somewhat erratic with RL, so was looking for something more social to connect with people while dodging pocket raptors.
  14. I'm really pleased if locked masteries don't interfere with spirit shard acquisition on general principle.
  15. It does seem challenge mode requires bringing down the pods - when I blasted at least four of them the invulnerability period on the last quarter was gone. The 'extra' spawns had been removed in both other instances. Glad this one's done.
  16. I've managed to solo this almost down to the last quarter where the dragon keeps going invulnerable. I can't see the 'immobility' debuff vs thetendril poison so I had all the pods up - do the pods have to die on the last quarter or bugged?
  17. I'm just hearing not play on new maps until this gets settled. Transmutation charges and keys are the rewards I really like.
  18. Mobile cancellation is probably the main reason and I hope for a follow-up, but I'm a CoH vet. They were profitable but not profitable enough and NCSoft killed it. They probably could have gone to maintenance mode and still made money for years, but not NCSoft's way. So I'm a little concerned.
  19. The problem with that line of thinking is that your so-called "meaningful conversations" will never go anywhere, because everything and anything can be countered with "but ArenaNet can add a reason for this to (not) make sense in the very next release!" Well, by that argument, what's going to happen is that Caithe will go mad with grief and feast on Aurene's corpse and transform thus becoming a dragon herself and will go on to chase Kralkatorrik into the Mists despite being logically far weaker, without visibly killing them, but all will be fine because the magic is no longer building up even though we've been told that The All's imbalance is a more critical issue and magical buildup is merely a visible symptom of that. Oh, and let's not forget how Gaheron Baelfire's soul is gonna come in and stab Taimi with reforged Magdaer after absorbing all the Foefire ghosts. But that'll remain pointless because Taimi will have transferred her consciousness into Blish's golem body so that the two love birds can be together forever in the gut of the ever-fleeing Elder Scardycat Dragon Kralkatorrik. What, doesn't make sense? No reason for any of that to happen? Well you know it could all easily change with one episode, and could be explained to fit in a way that you wouldn't have imagined because you were too stuck on your personal interpretation. There's a reason why theories are based off of evidence and testing. Because without that, you can go into such realms of unexpected, random silliness and massive plotholes that you put Gintama to bitter shame. Can ArenaNet add or change something to make what couldn't feasibly happen, happen? Sure. But what's the point of theorizing over what's impossible now? Enter that territory, and there won't be any meaningful conversations beyond your own fan-fictions. People, especially those constantly having their "beloved theories debunked" by established lore, love to proclaim this, that others are "too focused on what lore has established that you forget Anet can change it any moment" but once you go into what ArenaNet can retcon or add that doesn't fit established lore, there's no real point in discussing it because anything can happen or get retconned. Might as well talk about how the skyboxes will turn green and Kralkatorrik will suddenly become a good guy next release. Meh, I think I've made my point about the silliness of that statement. That was a pretty creative theory actually, and it could happen. I'm certainly not going to tell you it won't, because I'm not the one writing the story. So kudos to you for thinking outside the box! Great way for Taimi to go too. They've certainly been building up to her death these last few episodes, and your suggestion of her becoming a part of Blish ties in with her fascination of him. Though it seems like she's more interested in the other brother these days. Maybe it's a love triangle. And now that Sohothin has been abandoned by Rhytlock, that really ties everything in nicely. You should totally write the story from now on. Till we meet again, my hero. What is interesting about all this talk about not showing powers and the evidence is that even though eating Zhaitan and Mordremoth’s magic, Kralkatorrik did not display any of this until Season 4. We could have had lots of examples during Path of Fire, but Kralkatorrik shows no death magic powers. Does he use mind magic from Mordremoth? Maybe, but this do much harder to see, if at all. Also back to the Shadow Magic sphere. Where is that? How come no one is using Shadow Magic? Primordus must be swimming in the stuff and you would think Kralkatorrik should have some evidence of using this spectrum too, however it’s not shown. He may simply not have had to before. Until there was the mention that Kralkatorrik could see the future and was working to avoid one, he seemed one of the more 'primordial force' dragons versus strategy - when you just fly over an area and everything's dead or works for you, it didn't seem he needed any thinking to win. Brandstorm's a pretty winning strategy. But with the Last Scion of Glint gaining power he's had to up his game.
