  1. No. No change in gear. But expansions happened and Mesmer(and every other class) got 3 Elite specializations. So "core" builds are, how to say, more or less, kinda ... meh. Nothing changed with your gear tho. It does the same as it did before. Expansions: Heart of Thorns is brutal on foot. With just gliding its still "I want to ragequit" The more mounts you have and the more they are upgraded, the better HoT gets With "wings" (griphon, skyscale), its not so bad. I'd got into Path of Fire(PoF) and start unlocking all mounts. Also unlock Mirage Elite spec. Staff Mirage is one of the easiest and simplest Open World/Story mission builds there is. Not the best damage (kinda slow TBH), but it gets the job done and its hard to find any other build that is safer. P.S.: Ascended gear is not required. Exotic will do just fine for open world.
  2. Hmm, no. I mean, you are not wrong, but you are also wrong. Ok, my story: This days, there is Winterdays event going one. Do it! Maybe it is new to you. Hey, new content. Nice. And even if its not, its a good source of money. Not a joke. This events are a huge source of money As you have noticed, raw gold is kinda rare. But "loot" is not. So you sell "loot" on TP. Or salvage and sell mats on TP. Or even use for crafting. Plus. This special events can drop unique items or unique skins (cosmetics). Some call this game Fashion Wars 2.0. Now "fashion" is expensive. You can go broke fast if you buy. Or rich fast if you sell. See ... money. Special events can be super profitable. That "15g/hour" is like "pfft noob". After you are bored of this event: finish core story decide on your Open World build. Like: is it Power or Condi buy/get the cheapest exsotic gear that fits your build now, important part: most logical way to go forward would be: Living Season1, then 2, then Hart of Thorns, and so on I didn't do that, because in HoT I wanted to ragequit and burn my PC and sue ANet for psyhological damage. Ok, I didn't, but it was close So: I did Path of Fire I unlocked mounts. ALL OF THEM. Don't bother with "should I get this or that first". Just get ALL. And upgrade them to Tier 3. Not 4. First all to 3 and only after that to 4(if you really want to) After that I went to HoT. With "wings" (griphon), HoT is not so bad. HoT meta events are also very profitable. Oh, you do know that LW3 and LW4 have easy to get Ascended trinkets? Yes, you do story to get there. Thats kinda my point. Anyway get all mounts. Yes, some are not cheap. But because you can move faster, you also get money faster. On popular(because profitable) maps, on foot you'll get like 2-3g per hour. With "wings" (griphon, skyscale), you can ge 20g/hour. Its because all others have wings, and will do events so fast, you on foot will never be able to keep up.
  3. Small note: when you change those settings, they will kick in tommorow. Tested. Because not so long ago I had the same problem 😛
  4. Nothing in your post says "ANet hates veterans". I do read a lot of "I'm bored". You have 2 options: Take a break Change your playstyle. How? Maybe: now Im a raider that does hyper complicated rotation like a pro. Change: I will use my "veteran" knowledge of the game to create a low intensity build that allowes 1-armed player could solo speed run those raids. My point is: its a game, game is suppose to be fun. So do something fun.
  5. To make money, you have to put everything into Trading Post. Never sell to generic NPC merchant. Trading post only. Exception is loot that is flaged as "junk". NPC merchant will give you lets say 2silver, on TP you can get 20 silver for the same thing. Or 2 gold. Or more. A lot more. Usefull link (old but still valid): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fm53Wkj7GeM Crafting profitable? Yes, but profit margins are low. For 99.9999% of stuff. Tho some are more profitable.
  6. Whale hunting in MMOs.: create "ranked" gear. So cheap, average, good, best, the super ultra best of the best all gear is available ingame. Cheap gear is cheap, that "ultra" is not. Like totally not. To get "the super ultra best of the best" it would take you like over 9000 hour multiplied by over 9000 of ingame grinding But you can get The Good Stuff fast with CC. This is actually a lie. You can get The Good Stuff only with CC. Trick: Super important trick: every "over 9000 hours" you must add new gear that is more powerfull then the old one You have to prevent that "plebs" could grind "the super ultra best of the best". If you don't, Whales will go away. Whales want what plebs can not get. Trick is, that "plebs" must never be able to get The Good Stuff. They think they can(with lots of grinding), but just as they get close, you add new expansion (that comes with new more powerful gear). Only CC can get you The Good Stuff. Not just faster. Its the only way. Problem(for Whale hunting) with GW2: gear never gets better, more powerful. When you get Ascended gear, its over. Nothing is more powerful then Ascended. Legendary has the same stats as Ascended. Legendaries perk is that you can change stats fast and for free. But it is not more powerful. Fashion is another story.
  7. I worked in tech support and I can tell you, that people don't do that "the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth". People like to "skip" important details.
  8. It makes no difference if you create a new character or use existing one. You can level a new char for 1 to 80 in like a day. If you bought expansions, you should have level 80 booster(s). So insta level 80. Its not very important. More important is "fun". If you think Mesmer is fun for you, then continue to use your Mesmer. If you think that dunno Necromancer would be more fun, then roll a new Necromancer.
  9. It is "scripted". You have to do specific actions at specific time. If its "attack", you attack, if its "pull back", you run back. If you follow "script", its patheticaly easy. You can literaly do it naked and blinded. If you don't follow script, it is impossible. Even 50+ squad couldnt do it. Because its "scripted". All story line missions are like that. Just that some (mostly the first ones) have only one "script". Go to point A and attack. Your mission has more then one part. 1. go to point A, attack, 2. run back to point B, attack.

  11. Yes. Thats my rule for trinkets. Even if I make a mistake, its not hard to get another one. For me "ring" just means "a couple of winterberries runs".
  12. 1. Artefact from old days. 2. Some items are "unique". It means you can only equip one But you have 2 ring slots. So you need 2 different rings. 3. Check what laurels are used for. There is not a lot of way to get them. You don't want to be low on laureals if you want to <insert something> and the curse yourself for burning them on kinda easy to get trinkets. Trinkets are really not hard to get in LW maps. Or fractals/raids/WvW,PvP. Lots of sources for trinkets and not that many for laurels.
  13. Raw gold is very rare in GW2. Most of the money is in the mats and unopened bag or items you sell on TP. Insta sell vs sell order: do what you want. Just don't sell to NPCs. NPCs get only junk. They even have "Sell junk" button.
  14. I did that with my Guardian and it worked very well. Didn't broke any speed/DPS record, but was good enough so I could do story, general Open World. Good Enough(tm) to get better stuff. Tip: Warrior Sword does mostly bleed condi damage, so get armor runes that increase bleed duration. For Guardian, I picked "burning" amor runes. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Barre_Scorchmane . I like Watchknight..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6mYx_Y5gvQ
  15. I did it with slow necromancer. Speed is not a problem. Hmm, maybe its "rotate your char to look at skyscale when you catch the ball". Or maybe you have to be in the center of the circle. This may help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNR3rtG6eGU
  16. Link: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Tanetris/So_You_Want_To_Gear_a_Character Its a long list, so my [tl;dr] would be: Trinkets first, then weapon, then armor. Everything must be exotic or ascended. All slots must be filled in. Don't "mix". So all Berserker. Or all Viper. Keep it simple. Trinkets: the cheapest are from Living Seasons maps.Winterberries are the best! All Ascended. This also mean "Bound to Account". Alt friendly Weapon(exotic): buy on TP. Search by stat. Don't search by "berserker", search "Power/pecision/Ferocity". Armor(exotic): buy on TP and/or farm Verdant Brink. Ascended weapon/armor: craft or do Fractals/Strikes/Raids Crafting: its about money. Not cheap, but it is predictable. May not be the fastest way, but you can be 100% sure you will get what you want.
  17. GW2 has many so called "game modes". PvP, WvW, etc. Its kinda known, that you need a different build for a specific "game mode". PvE, by the way is not just one. You have fractals, raids, strikes. And you also have Open World. Its a different "game mode". So, you need a different build. One characteristics of GW2 is, that Open World is "end game" content. Any lvl 80 maps is "end game" content. Its not just map for story, or some eazy buffer zone on the way to where Raid is. No, its legit end game stuff. And just as you have to have a solid build, and learn how to do fractals or raids of WvW or <insert game mode>, you have to do it for Open World.
  18. Wiki: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Effect_stacking Damage condi stack up to 1500.
  19. 1. If its in your inventory, just use it. And its gone. 2. If it drops (reward, bags and stuff), then I agree. Junk item that polutes RNG loot tables.
  20. Unlock more skins. And paint. What you want is probably already available. Good luck. And have lots of money. And time. Fashion is expensive in this game. And very grindy. Its one of "end game" activities. Its how GW2 is. Getting to 80, getiing so called "end game gear" is easy. Looking good is like ultra CM raid multiplied 100 times.
  21. Specializations: - press H - select Build tab - change it - done Hero points: - you are suppose to unlock and max any and all specializations - game has enough points for everything Money: - do stuff - sell loot on TP (bags, items, whatever) - its also OK to salvage items and sell materials on TP - never sell to NPC vendor But first you want to unlock mounts. More is better, all is the best. You really want mounts. You don't just "want", you "need".
  22. Best I know of is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EKE0ZWKqdg Its for PvE-Open world. Not good for fractal/raid. OK, it is, but only if you solo it. Its a hybrid reaper., but more on power side. Pretty tanky Most of damage (and buffs) comes from shroud. Just press 1. Press 2 if you want to close the gap. Double 3 and/or 5 for CC So press 1. Everything else is situational utility Dagger is used to get into shroud ASAP
  23. I guess Im a bit like you. Sometimes I play more, sometimes less. And I also have problems with "main". If you don't know which class should be your main, it means you want them all. In general, thats not possible. If one class can be everythig, then there would be no need to have lots of classes. Exception is Revenant. By switching specializations(includes Elite ones) and legends, you can be pretty much anything you want. Go Revenant.
  24. Yes. You can only use 2 weapons(some profesion only 1) and you can equip only 5 utility skills. So only 2 weapons and only 5 skills out of many available. Limitations. On the other hand, you can swap build. If not in combat, you can change weapons and/or utility skills and even specializations. And its free of charge. One build has limits, but you can switch it.
  25. No. There is always a workaround. I don't like JPs. And I didn't do any of the JPs to get grifon or skyscale. Quest objective is "get an item". OK, item may be inside JP area, but many times its just near, on the edge of JP area. Workarounds: google, smart use of "pre-fly" mounts, friendly mesmer Anyway, there are workarounds.
