  1. I think out of anyone, if Anet were to announce an underwater expansion, I'd be less skeptical than in any other MMO. They seem to understand the importance of movement and have really become likely the best MMO in that regard. The thing that would still have me skeptical, however, is this really isn't just a movement thing. Anet made an effort at the beginning to have underwater combat function as a separate thing with underwater weapons and have slowly distanced themselves from it since it never worked that well. Even with the most recent expansion, we have entire elite specs that barely function under the water (renegade, scourge, etc.). It wouldn't be just about getting the movement right, but combat as well, something I could see requiring a massive amount of reworking and balancing. I do really wish we could see an MMO pull off some good underwater content though. I think it can be done, and I was excited that GW2 was putting some effort into it when it was announced. Sort of sad it got scaled back in a lot of areas instead of improved.
  2. I wanted to look at the other PoF trailers to see if I could make some better suggestions, and I hate to point it out, but.... you guys did this trailer already. The Accolades trailer is basically a condensed version of the . I think every clip in that trailer is in this one, just with player quotes now on top of them - and without a lot of the things people are now suggesting be shown in the trailer (voice overs, combat, etc.).I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, but if I'm someone who saw the launch trailer and that wasn't enough to convince me to give GW2 a try, why do you think this one would convince me now? Unless this is being marketed a completely different way than before, I think you run the risk of people who saw the launch trailer tuning this one out because it's something they feel they've seen before. Roughly the first 30 seconds of both trailers are identical - just with VO replaced by player quotes. If I had seen the launch trailer, I'd probably close this one about 10 seconds in, thinking I watched it already. That being said, I also looked at the . Obviously this is a much longer trailer, but I think the first two minutes has a lot more of the elements you should be looking to incorporate to appeal to new or former players: It shows off the game's environment, but it isn't just a bunch of sweeping shots. It does so while also showing off combat and the expansion's new threats. More importantly, the combat highlights the new specs, which I think is essential to appeal to former players since it might pique their interest when they see the class they used to play doing something completely new. There's just something more epic and exciting about the HoT trailer largely because it's showing things actually happening. The most action in the PoF trailer is literally just people running or jumping. PoF doesn't look nearly as dangerous or engaging, particularly since the voice overs were what provided that context in the original trailer.I stopped playing GW2 in 2010. PoF's announcement got me checking out the game again, but it was this HoT trailer that really sold me on giving the game another try. There are parts of that trailer that still give me chills even though I've already seen it multiple times. It feels like a movie trailer. The PoF trailer feels like the closing credits of a television show where they recap scenes from the episode.
  3. If I'm being completely honest - and I know this is coming from a cynical place - if I didn't know the game and saw those quotes with obvious screen names, my impression would be, "Wow, they can't get any professionals to say good things about the game, so they had to get random players to do it?" I know that's not the case with GW2 as PoF got a lot of good reviews, but that's definitely how it would come across to me. People know the people playing the game enjoy it, so it just looks like you had to get a bunch of biased opinions to make your game look good. Showing the Jackal entering the sand gate in the Teratohedron and then exiting it at the sand bridge would be great, IMO. It would show the Jackal's most unique ability, the teleportation, and also showcase one of the most breath taking moments of using a mount (the sand bridge high in the sky is really unique). Yeah, I think one thing they really need to show off and emphasize is the difference between GW2's mounts and how mounts in other MMOs work. In most other MMOs, mounts are just something you use to get around faster. Show the springer jumping up mountains, the jackal teleporting, the raptor jumping into combat with his tail spin. The griffon isn't a secret anymore, show off that GW2 has flying mounts too. (Personally, I'd show someone getting knocked off a cliff and then taking off on their griffon.) The trailer shows the mounts a couple times, but it doesn't show what they can actually do.
