  1. not me. Because elitist raid guilds don't have any useful wvw builds :P Well we can find some common ground. ArenaNet likes to ignore WvW too. But y'all probably have it worse. We have a 9 month window between raids. How long has it been now since they spoke of the alliance system? What new content have they made for WvW? Got to ask yourself sometimes, what in the world is ArenaNet doing? Oh wait, mount skins and a new map with repeat content. Duh. You mean the builds that every other raider copies, because they can't come up with their own builds, while the casual players don't even visit the forums or any build site, because they can create their own builds, and simply don't care about the whole meta?Yeah, i do wonder why some players try to use this community event to push their own agenda, instead of enjoying it like Teapot intended. ? Wow, you nailed it right there buddy! Could be true. Well yeah pretty much. This forum, like Reddit, is basically just a sea of casual players who log in every few days, do the same old meta and open-world boss events over and over, or once a month when there's new open-world content and then just log off. Why have a game with arguably the best combat mechanics of the MMO genre and only churn out new content updates for the game mode that you basically just can be on autopilot to actually do (Open World PVE, Open World Bosses, etc.) while refusing to add content to game-modes who would heavily utilize the combat mechanics (WvW, sPvP and Raids). Balance and skill changes, while incredibly appreciated and do make those game modes more interesting temporarily, aren't content updates before anyone says anything. The thing is no one wants to watch open-world content stuff on twitch cause its boring. Incredibly boring. Which is why Anet doesn't ever show it on their twitch streams, they show WvW. If they were playing open-world PvE content every week it would result in negative advertising of how dull it really is after the first play-through. Basically, teapot hasn't 100% quit but he did say he will come back and play GW2 how it is presently being designed to play: Once maybe a month and for a few hours and then log off. This game is BLEEDING its hardcore and competitive player base (two different demographics, oftentimes overlapping but not always), which maybe ArenaNet doesn't care about because the population is likely much smaller than the casual Open World PVE population. This is exactly what I think it all boils down to. The more hardcore players will find that this game just isn't it for them, despite how much they love the game. What I think a lot of people neglect is there is so much to expect out of an mmorpg. There's the lore, the story, the environment, the PvP, the raids, etc. There are a lot of reasons why hardcore players may love this game outside of raiding. But for hardcore players, there is not much replayability in this game. Obviously players come at all different skill levels. Players like to play casually and other players like more competition. Problem I see with ArenaNet is they invest very heavily into the casual player, way more than they should. And when you do that, you get living season 4 over the course of 2 years. In my honest opinion, just terrible. If you compare the content ArenaNet delivers with its competition (ESO, FF14), they are seriously behind. But you can't even say that in this community because the casuals will immediately tell you to go play those games. Reality is, hardcore players love this game for certain reasons, despite the drought in content. They want this game to do better, myself included. The content they released over the past 2 years takes not even an entire day to complete. The only thing that took a while was the skyskale, a single mount, and that was only due to time gates. Others may like this, this is just my honest opinion, I think it's terrible. With all that being said, I think TeaPot is spot on: Guild Wars 2 is designed to be played once a month. Furthermore, I don't understand people who say "the raid community is only about 10k people so why should ArenaNet invest into it?" Maybe because ArenaNet doesn't deliver much for those who raid, doesn't fix much in raids, and has the worst LFG system in an mmorpg? Idk that's just a couple guesses. People who raid in this game are leaving right now, so that number will go down even more. Next year they will be saying "the raid community is only about 8k people so why should ArenaNet invest into it?" You can now see where the problem is. We already saw this happen with sPvP. If ArenaNet spent more resources on raiding or even WvW, what would the casual player lose? A new map every 4 months that you will go in for about a day and not visit again unless it's for a collection or achievement? You have people who enter raid wings every single day. You have people in WvW maps every single day. How much content are they getting? It's ridiculous.
  2. I don't know why we are even talking about this here. This forum is full of casual players. The same casual players who got their build from an elitist raid guild. ?
  3. The more viewers you have for a game, the more popular people will see the game, the more people will play the game, the more money ArenaNet makes from the game, the more content the developers put in the game, and the people who easily play themselves benefit. Idk, could be why a company like Epic Games makes billions of dollars and even gives over 100 million dollars to eSports for it's games. But that's just stupid, huh? Question is, how do you attract the viewers? Casual play sure as hell won't do it.
  4. teapot (host), had to choose between anet support or his camera addon (its against anet rules). I dont know about ERP 1 view numbers, but i guess it was 2-3k. ERP 2 final had 5k viewers. And ERP 3 had 17k Why do people keep saying that? Seems like some made up garbo from the spam in twitch chat. saying what? That teapot had to chose whether to accept ArenaNet support or some camera addon. It's obviously made up. Just sit back for a second and think how stupid this sounds. I asked how we know this and you just repeated what was said. That doesn't provide an answer.
  5. I was unaware ArenaNet tried to back this. How do we know this? What this all really tells me is that there is definitely a crowd for more "elitist" or "hardcore" content playing this game. ArenaNet has been catering to the casual crowd while doing very little for those who are into harder content. So I believe the "controversy" is fitting. If you like hardcore content, play a different game. Guild wars 2 doesn't deliver much for those kind of players.
  6. ERP 3 had more viewers than there are comments under this general forum discussion. That's very sad. When you have an event that is competitive and not "casual" in nature, people actually care to see what's happening. ArenaNet would be wise to take notes, but we know that won't happen. Especially considering the fact that a lot of these players that have hosted and/or taken part in ERP 3 are leaving the game. It's unfortunate you have such an oblivious company running a game that has so much potential. But at least we are getting season 5, more crappy maps that you will spend about a day in with the same old "dynamic" events. Or bounties, because that's fun right? Reality is, one player succeeded in running an actual competition for the game where an entire company failed.
  7. I have 4 ascended sets on my elementalist. Power DPS, healer, WvW roaming setup, and a zerg setup. I am working on my second ascended set for my warrior so I can run power or condi, depending on the fight and I will also make gear for WvW. Build templates I will most definitely use.
  8. How is it not remotely possible? I didn’t expect feedback on the server examples I listed. This is just silly. I understand guilds have a different amount of players which is why I said a rating system would have to factor this in. I emphasized this was my initial idea but also stressed why it would be a poor representation. I’d imagine pugs would be moved around too. Depending on which guild they decide to represent. I wouldn’t keep them all in one world like Blackgate. It appears this is possibly the route ArenaNet is taking with them anyway. Yes? Why wouldn’t that make sense? Again, I emphasized why I think rating guilds by pips was a bad idea and stated a new rating system would have to be developed. Yes, I think a leaderboard would be nice. I suppose I wasn’t aware of the alliance system until after I posted this. I knew they were going some route with focusing more on guilds so I decided to share this.
  9. So before I share this, please bear in mind that I am fairly new to WvW and this is just my idea. I am not the brightest, so criticize it as you please! I myself may look back on it and think, "you dummy." WvW is an incredibly fun game mode. It has it's issues of course but one major issue I cannot get over is how unbalanced certain match ups are. I have been in tier 1 for a couple weeks now and it definitely seems like we don't belong there. It's hard to enjoy this game mode when you are just being farmed by well structured guilds. Anyway, enough of my crying, here's my idea. Instead of worlds progressing to higher tiers, I would have guilds progress to different worlds, potentially in higher tiers. This would mean a rating system would have to be implemented that measures your guilds performance for the week. Initially I thought they could use the total pips earned by the players in the guild, but with being outnumbered, I could see how this could be a poor representation. It would have to be a rating system that would factor in time played and the number of players actually participating for their guild. This way tier 1 wouldn't have small guilds going up against large, well structured guilds. Let's say we get 9 worlds and 3 tiers. These worlds would not move from their particular tier. So in tier 1, you would have Blackgate, Maguuma, and Fort Aspenwood (just an example). This would not change. The 3 best rated guilds would be split into each of these worlds, this way the top 3 guilds are always fighting against each other. As an example, the guilds placed in 1st and 6th place would be assigned together in Blackgate, the guilds in 2nd and 5th place would be assigned together in Maguuma, and the guilds in 3rd and 4th place would be assigned together in Fort Aspenwood. I assume this would make it a fairly balanced population and fight. Of course there will be guilds that will probably always be on top, and rightly so. But I don't believe it will be hard for a guild in tier 2 to pass a guild that is in 4th through 6th place to make it into tier 1. I certainly don't believe it is impossible to recruit players and top the guilds that hold the top 3 spots. So basically WvW will become GvG in a tournament style. ArenaNet would also be wise to implement a reward system that would motivate guilds to actually want to be in tier 1. But I wouldn't give rewards out to everyone in the guild, only to those who have participated, and the more the participation, the better the reward. If this causes an issue to where everyone just flocks to the higher tier guilds, then perhaps they can combat this by capping the amount of players allowed to represent a particular guild for a given week. But this would indeed suck. Furthermore, I would set it to where you have to choose which guild you represent before you enter into WvW. I would lock this decision for at least a week and upwards to a month. This way players wont be able to abuse the system and just farm lower tiers. Obviously ArenaNet makes money from players transferring worlds. To compensate for this, they could implement a reset for the guild you are representing at the cost of gems. Lastly, I would implement a leaderboard displaying the ranking of the top guilds. This could be a leaderboard showing all of them, or maybe just the top 3, for bragging rights. Anyway, there's my idea!
