  1. This is really appealing to me as well. Being able to display one's achievements is nice. It's something ESO does quite well.
  2. Could be anything that'd make you say "this is the perfect game for me!" For me, it would be solo arenas that are really hard that tests your build and your skills.
  3. Thank you for the opnion. Here's mine. If you feel bad about the game's design GW2 is not for you go play LOL.
  4. I'll take this open world design over other MMO's "open worlds" which are barren wastelands with some token activities that's extremely easy.
  5. IMO, invest the hour or two you'd need to setup 3rd party controller software. It's kinda ridiculous that you highly regard gw2 as your "best mmo on the market" but then wont take the short amount of time to configure your preferred playstyle.
  6. Since you seem to be new, I'd recommend checking out Vallun's "one build for all game modes series" So you have a good build to copy that will let you do all the content relatively well. Then later on when you're familiar with the class and game more, you can make your own builds, or follow more focused builds for specific game modes like the ones from snocrows, hardstuck, or metabattle. But really, it depends on the type of player you are. Some people would disagree with my advice, and they would say that learning on your own as you play is better. And yeah, that's a good idea too, unless you don't play like that. When my friend group decided to play GW2, I have this friend who refused to read online guides and wikis and was dead set on learning GW2 on his own in-game. He quickly fell off in terms of power and at one point couldn't actually join us in fractals because he didnt have enough ascended gear to resist the agony mechanic. On the other hand though, he had world completion of core tyria, and had completed the most jumping puzzles etc. Essentially, you can play how you want, and the best advice we can give you depends on the type of player you want to be. In general though, Vallun's one build for all game modes is a safe choice to follow.
  7. you need to have a target (an enemy for the clones to attack) to spawn clones as a mesmer/mirage/chronomancer. As a virtuoso, you can stock blades using those skills even without a target.
  8. I'm hoping it's a mix of melee/mid ranged skills. I want it to be a flashy shotgun that shoots out fireworks for consistent high aoe damage. Please let it be good for a dps zerg build in WvW! First light armor class to have rifle also means exciting fashion combos.
  9. I have this theory/hope that rifle mes is a non projectile close/mid ranged AOE weapon. Sort of like a magic boomstick and the explosions are fireworks. Also, first light armor spec to get a rifle! Outfitting em would be so cool.
  10. Please let this be a good WvW weapon for dps
  11. Agreed 100%. It works for sPVP but in WvW, it's a dead skill.
  12. People who are offline shouldn't be able to send whispers to people outside their friend list. Easy fix!
  13. Catalyst class mechanic UI looks and functions like it drew the short end of the stick when it was time to design EoD specialization UIs.
  14. I agree that not allowing f2p accounts to play spvp, combined with one round of ANet banning bots, would fix this problem. Just played a game where i think 4 or 5 of the enemies were core classes and all of them were bots.
  15. in WVW roaming, im currently running fresh air scepter/dagger catalyst. I also have a scepter swap. Depending on the enemy and their numbers, I swap off hand weapons. I default with the dagger for the extra mobility, if I have to switch o the focus, I disengage until i get OOC, then swap to focus. For PvP, I just use scepter/focus. I think there are 3 main things you need to get down to survive as fresh air cata: 1. Position well, and never stay in melee range against a melee enemy. With constant access to superspeed, you're very mobile. Elementalist defenses is not reactive. You dont have big heals, so you have to avoid damage, and positioning well is the best way to avoid damage. That said though, 2. Use defensive cooldowns well. air and earth focus are great defensive spells, as well as the earth cata skill that makes you invincible, but they have long cooldowns. So don't panic use them. This also applies for dodge rolls. Finally, 3. Always be casting something. Using the signet heal, you really gain a lot from spamming your spells. Also, constantly making self combos to get air and earth auras go a long way to extending your life.
  16. I like fresh air staff tempest for open world. Mobile with the near permanent superspeed, but still feels very mage-y with "chanelled" spells + constant air overload and big AOE staff spells (they all have delays so switch to air for the damage boost before they land). Because of this mini-game where you keep switching to air, gameplay is very engaging, and seeing big numbers land because you utilized fresh air well feels rewarding. Go full marauders. Fire trait line (or arcane) Air trait line (get everything in the middle) Tempest trait line (get the traits that improve the overloads) Gameplay is: [Other element except air -> cast spells -> switch to air -> cast any air spells or just auto attack -> air overload ->switch to next element] For example, fire is: fire 2 then 3, then meteor storm, -> switch to air while meteor storm is channeling -> air aa or spells ->air overload -> earth attunement. It's the most black mage feeling ele spec right now imo. "Clunky" spell caster with big aoe and big damage. This build also works for weaver, only now you are using double air attunement, and it has a much more complex rotation. I don't like it as much for catalyst because catalyst relies much more on the base weapon skills, and staff air lacks damage w/o access to overload and dual skills. I do like using FA scepter/dagger catalyst in open world though, but you said you dislike the scepter.
  17. You wanna play a ranged mage right? What other weapon is there aside from staff/scepter that would fulfill that archetype? If they give us bows, that wouldn't be a mage, it would be an arcane archer. IMO don't be too quick to discredit the elite specs ability to shake up ranged gameplay, especially with the recent scepter and staff reworks (staff needs more changes though). Weaver and Catalyst do well with Staff/scepter builds, and they play and feel very differently from core, especially the weaver. Now if you still want a different kind of mage, you can try the virtuoso. It's more psionic instead of elemental.
  18. So does this outfit have its own glider skin? Im just basing this off of the promotional image.
  19. IMO if you're put into a situation like that, just tank the hit. Tempests' protection has buffed damage reduction with their minor grandmaster trait.
  20. IMO any thief build that's on zerker/marauders with the Invigorating Precision GM trait. Good damage, and you have lifesteal for survival. IMO it's best because it has high damage. I don't like going for celestial or defensive stats in open world if there is an option to do more damage and still being able to survive, so lifesteal made sense. Invigorating Precision: You are healed for a percentage of outgoing critical-hit damage. This healing is increased while you are under the effects of fury." Personally, I prefer the DE for the permanent quickness on trash mobs because of Be Quick or Be Killed. I use bow auto-attack for the bouncing arrows with quickness (great for tagging), and it's your choice for the swap. I've solo'd champ bounties and Heart of Thorns hard bosses with it. Be Quick or Be Killed: Gain quickness when marking a foe. Your power and precision are increased while under this effect.
  21. Sword isn't meant to be the mobility weapon for elementalists. We have the dagger for that. Admittedly, the mobility skills are harder to access as a weaver (fire 3 and earth 3, so we have to double attune). With that said though, constantly changing attunements (fire <-air <-fire <-air) for the superspeed from the air trait line works wells in open world and WvW.
  22. If that were the case, then it would've been any ele espec that we see a lot, no? But as OP said, a team of 5 catalysts won. As such, being a catalyst surely plays a large role in this overperformance. So if something is getting nerfed it has to be the catalyst. Please don't touch the scepter too much. We've been asking for a usable ranged mage weapon for damage... you know, for the mage class, for so long.
  23. IMO it's an excuse because people still do Dragonstorm (and other rewarding events) during festivals.
