  1. Well, what I said initially still stands: that's not jumping backwards, that's having the camera reversed. ;) The former is impossible to achieve (as the snowflakes melt quickly), the latter looks really, really tough. Funny ...you should say that as if I somehow said I was jumping backwards in my OP. Because my title says reversed action CAMERA. It doesn't say reversed action PLAYER. Edit: Unless you were referring to my use of the words backwards, where any reasonable person knows it's a figure of speak and wouldn't fuss over the semantics of the word, when they know the principle in which it's spoken.
  2. Yeah the people who did this is impressive. Both of them. One may have taken an "easier" path, but it was with auto run and on the snowman path you have to wait for the platforms to appear. So they have to stay on the platform while waiting. Thus it would be a greater challenge to do it on snowman with backwards auto run than gingerbread. Whereas the other person was doing it backwards without auto run, so obviously their challenge would be the path that shatters the fastest.
  3. :o I'd love to see that. Oops damn my bad lol. Wrong vid. Wrong path. Here it is.
  4. :o I'd love to see that. Another thing I noticed he had mastered is how to jump when they were blinded because of a rock. Or they had jittery cam because of a rock.
  5. :o I'd love to see that. Sure! Now the auto run as well might be a little too much for me lol XD.
  6. It's not doable as you cannot jump the required distance backwards unless it's a dodge jump, and those are time-limited as they depend on your Endurance recovery. Since the snowflakes melt, you can't just wait for your Endurance to recover, so doing the whole thing in reverse seems like a futile endeavour. Yeah, that's what I've discovered since posting this. But I'm not sure what else the OP could mean by that title. I can't find any mention of it online except this topic, just lots of guides to using the action cam or doing jumping puzzles. The only other thing I can think of is using the action cam so the camera is facing your character and you're running fowards but your view is reversed, but I can't see how that would affect how soon the platforms disappear or how quickly you move. All I can think to suggest there is that the platforms aren't specific to you, they start to crumble as soon as anyone jumps on them so if someone else is just ahead of you they may be destroying the platforms just as you get to them. There isn't really a solution to that except making sure you start at the same time and keep up with them, or waiting until you're the only one starting it. This one I think is the same no matter what special rules you're using: it's mostly down to practice and learning the route, but it also helps to remember that you can turn or speed up/slow down in the air, so you can adjust after jumping. The ability to slow down, or rather stop completely is probably the most useful of those, it's a bit counter-intuitive but your character has no momentum, the second you stop moving them forward they'll drop straight down, so you can take a running start, hold down the forward (or backwards?) key and then let go when you're over the point you want to land on and you'll drop to exactly that point. There's at least a few "leap of faith" points in the Wintersday puzzle - places where I'd swear it's too far and my character won't make it, or the platform is too steep or whatever, but at some point in the past I tried it (or saw someone else try it) and now I do it trusting that it will work even if it looks like it won't. It takes trial and error to learn that but now I'll throw myself off those places without even thinking about it because I know it will work. When you're learning it can help to move the camera around a bit (if your rules allow this) to see the jump from different angles so you can see the best spot/direction to go from. It might mean that run you don't have enough time to finish, but next time you won't need to do that (assuming you found the right place) so it won't take as long. This is very helpful as it's given me the realization that I need to jump before the platform appears. I noticed one player jumping onto the platform before it appears and I realized it was because the platform appears the moment the horizontal platform near the rock appears. It's just invisible for a second. She knew this so she jumped onto the air. She even knew when the presents would appear and would jump before they appear and then land on them. I can't use that platform as a visual cue facing backwards so I will have to learn to count at the same speed consistently, so that if I get to x number of seconds at my speed of counting it's time to jump. Obviously being human I might count too fast or too slow. So you've reminded me I need to master the most basic fundamental here. Learning the timing so I start before or at the same time as everyone else.
  7. I saw a YouTube vid of it. And I'm going to rewatch it to see if he did any dodge jumping. Nope. No dodge jump. I think the problem is I'm using up time during the rotation in the air part. I may be overdoing it losing precious time. But I'm not sure how they learnt to not overdo or undo their rotations. Plus you are running forwards while your camera is looking backwards. That's what reverse action cam means. Your camera is in reverse, not your character.
  8. The reason I'm starting with the gingerbread path is because the flow is the most natural out of all the paths once you learn it. Compare this to quaggan and snowman that has at least one snowflake you can get stuck in the gap then fall through. But even with flow obviously doing it backwards makes even the most natural of paths feel weird. It was easier for me to learn gingerbread forward because it's natural flow was designed for forward movement. Also because the puzzle compensates for it's timed factor by preventing the puzzle from having geometry that can make you stuck. Learning it backwards must have a different technique to it. If you use action cam and look behind you, then you press the s key, your character runs forward while looking backwards. It is possible. Someone made a YouTube vid of it. There is no way I'd attempt this if I hadn't seen anyone else do this.
  9. Great personal challenges like this, don't come along everyday! Only problem is I don't know what techniques people who have successfully done this use, when they first started learning how. My problems at the moment: It seems slow. I can jump onto each platform without pausing and it will shatter under me. Compare this to jumping forward taking the same route, and not having the platform shatter under me. If I'm still going at the same speed, but my camera is facing in the other direction, why am I being shattered off? Jumping onto the wrong part of the platform or slipping off the side or outright missing it. I take 1 step forward and 10 steps back so to speak. I'm hoping for someone who has successfully done this to give me pointers to help make my practice more worthwhile.
  10. Yep! I'll definitely see if I can twist onto that rather than trying to make a land onto the platform. It's a pretty solid bet that by the time I get there, it's either ready or readying itself and will be ready by the time I get there.
  11. Guys my fps is back to normal now. The leap of faith is no longer a hindrance. I'm still not one of those perfect runners, but I'm finding it a lot smoother now.
  12. The only thing that's changed is my fps. Dropping down to a 45. I can make it 55 by hiding my interface, but usually I have fps at 70. 60 normally and 70 with interface turned off. Not sure why my fps has randomly changed. I'm not much of a tech person. It might not be the game, because my graphic settings are still the same as when it was 60. So 50% of the time, even with low fps, the jumps are fine but they feel "un-natural" I make it to the leap of faith and the platform is covered and I'm grabbed the moment I land. This only happens when my fps is low. It doesn't happen when my fps is average or above average. I know there are players who are able to complete the clock tower with low fps. To me it feels like going from using a keyboard and then suddenly having to learn to write quickly and neatly with a pen. Players who have always had to use a pen are going to find it more familiar than players who switched from keyboard to pen due to fps drop. I do think fps matters in the same way exotic and ascended matter in open world. Sure, you will probably find a player who can solo difficult enemies in fine gear. But they soloed the enemies in spite of the disadvantage. It doesn't mean the disadvantage doesn't exist. It just means some players are better at countering and overcoming disadvantages. Just as some players back in the day could breeze through the JP even if a charr or norn were blocking the way, before orbs. That's just my opinion, though. Just sharing my reasons why I have that opinion. I'm not one of those players who deals well with disadvantages of any kind. Even being equal to everyone else in fps, I still won't have perfect runs. Having a disadvantage on top of being below average at JPs? Not a chance. I did complete clock tower 5 times "for real" (aka I got to the chest) and way more than 5 times "semi for real", (aka I made it to the clock but didn't make it in despite jumping at the same time as when I have made it in - when lightning strikes. ) I think there are two possible advices I'm asking for. Because you might know more about one than the other. For techys,. Could there be any changes I can make to my computer to increase fps? I've done what I could to increase fps in gw2 graphics. If you need any further information, let me know as I'm not exactly sure what information to give that would be helpful. For those with low fps who breeze through clock tower. What shortcuts do you take? How do you whip the camera angle around fast when jumping from the beam to the stone blocks but not overwhip it? attached to the leap of faith stairs? How do I overcome the "weird" feeling I have jumping at this fps. It feels wrong. It's hard to explain. I've been thinking of maybe trying to aim for the wooden platform that's next to the leap of faith platform? Because given how slow things are going, it will probably be out and ready by the time I jump off. But I'm worried that if I've miscalculated, I won't land on the wooden platform, I'll land into the goo. Is there any way of knowing that the platform is covered, I should aim for the wooden block instead, before I jump off?
  13. Technically everything in the game is optional content.
  14. I've tried gliding to the right hand corner. As per the instructions given on GW2 wiki, and I just keep slipping down the ledge. I don't have advanced gliding yet, mentioning that just in case it's relevant.
  15. They're both terrible means aka they're of equal skill. Yet the thief still won 2/3. Even today if you eavesdrop on PVP casual chat in the lobby you will hear casual line drops about thief being so OP right now. It's all up to interpretation.
  16. So.. yea.. i've played Thief for 4 years. Now main Guardian for maybe 3 years. I bet you can easily understand why the switch. And after these 3 years i still say "Dang.. Guard is OP AF. A complete beast.". And whenever i try to play Thief i still say "Dang this is sucha weakling no sustain at all and even dmg isnt as high as it used to be.." So i guess im still Thief main after these years right? Watcha gotta say about that? U can't ignore the fact that some classes are way stronger then others. And if u want to have an easy time in this game u gotta play what's OP and not what you enjoy. Sad that it is like that but it is like that.
  17. I learned that your username is your forum name, so people can definitely add you and message you, without having to know your username. Here are tips I wish I'd known as a new player. These are Quality of Life you can integrate right now as opposed to a quality of life you have to grind for like skyscale. You're new, so it's better to give you here and now quality of life tips. Get more bags with more slot space from trading post Click two crossed swords to go to PVP Lobby (safe zone lobby, don't worry) waypoint to market waypoint. Here you have access to a merchant, a trading post and your bank. Click the two crossed swords again and press leave lobby, and you will be back at the same place you were. Useful if you want to buy something or pick up an item but don't want to lose your current position on map You can repair your armour in most guild halls. Click shield then click enter guild hall. When you leave you will be back in the same place Press the gear and select deposit all items to store crafting items in your bank Events - the stuff in orange circles, give you fast XP. If the event happens within range of a heart, it might progress the heart bar really fast, too You can press alt + left click to place a personal marker on the world map for you to head towards. You can press shift + left click, waypoints, points of interest to create a link for them in chat and share them with other players. This will allow other players to get your location and come help you out with a difficult event. /m for map chat. /s for local chat /d for squad chat /p for party chat You can change your keybinds in option settings. If you're not moving or attacking you might accidentally be typing in chat. Click out of it Don't buy gear before level 80. Leveling in this game is fast, and you will outgrow your gear real fast. Just stick with gear you get as drops from your story and open world. Once you hit max level, then research gear choices and options. Heaps of YouTube guides to help with tricky to find places Tekkit markers which can be added to a TACO overlay are helpful for finding your way around. The route markers assume you have a mount. Sometimes you will have to walk around, instead of leaping off a cliff because the route assumes you can fly. These can be found on Google with instructions and from what I've seen are accepted by Arena Net. If you do load it into game click the taco and untick the boxes to remove clutter. For routes tactical markers> tekkit markers are both ticked. You can tick other stuff once you know you need them. But leave them unticked for now. You have one waypoint unlocked in all racial starting areas. Wayfarer Foothills, Plains of Ashford, Caledon Forest, Metrica Province and Queensdale. If you aren't high enough level for the closest map, you can teleport to another starter map instead. Safe cities are Black Citadel, Lion's Arch, the Grove, Rata Sum, Divinity's Reach, Hoelbrak. These safe places can train your combat level through exploration, if you need that extra bit of XP. Except Lion's Arch, those capital cities are reached via a portal behind the starting waypoint of each race starting area. Food from trading post can give you xp bonuses and other bonuses. Use cheap xp food during casual events. Don't worry about eating food during some big group events like world bosses. Other players usually drop food for the whole group to eat, and the food they drop is probably better than what you can buy anyway. They usually also drop banners that can be interacted with for other buffs like improved speed, improved xp, improved gold find etc The more you play, the more you get a feel for which non-sellable things you can just destroy without regrets. Some things are just really easy to get on this game, and there's really no need to hoard those items. If in doubt wiki it and if it's not for anything then destroy it if you have no space in your bank or inventory for it For your daily login rewards, save up your mystic coins and whenever you get the loyalty chest reward, switch between choosing chest of laurels and legendary craft materials. Eventually you will get to the point where you've been here and done that, and you might want to go after crafting your own legendary weapon. The chest of legendary crafting materials really helps with that. A legendary weapon is end game goal and may be far off in your future, but that occasional chest can make a difference, especially for a goal that's in the kind of far off future. Laurels can be used and spent at the laurel merchant to give you ascended trinkets (top gear trinkets, can't wear til level 80. Don't buy two rings or two earrings with the same name. You can't wear them both. Same stats are okay but not same name). Going against the tip above. You can choose to sell your mystic coins instead and then buy them back if you need it, but the economy changes so you might have to pay more than what you sold them for. You can even spend your laurels on large bag of crafting materials which can be used for crafting or sold to trading post. Basically what I'm saying is do what's right for you currency wise. But also mentioning the importance of future planning. Dailies - you can do 3 of any kind and you will be rewarded with 2 gold and other loot. Find them by pressing H selecting achievements tab. Selecting dailies and finding any three that you're able to do. If you can't do any, then just check everyday, as it changes every day. The more of the map you unlock the more dailies you will be able to do. But some dailies are in starting areas, so it doesn't hurt to check. The red line underneath your skill is an out of range indicator When a guild mate or someone on map chat offers their home instance. If you have nothing better to do, say yes. They're basically saying 'do you want free loot.' Make sure you have gathering tools equipped. Can buy from merchant
  18. World Completion Crafting -So choosing a crafting profession. Weapons give you the most bang for your buck in terms of stat bonuses. So you will want to train the weapon skill that corresponds with the ascended weapon you want to make. Ascended weapon is the top gear in game. Legendary has the same stats as ascended except you can change the stats of the weapon outside of combat. Some legendaries can be brought from the trading post. Skyscale is between griffon and springer. Both griffon and springer do their jobs faster. But skyscale does those jobs more precisely but a little slower. Depending on the situation skyscale can even do the job better. Like too much height, a level 3 skyscale will outmaneuver a springer, if there are no intermediate ledges for the springer to jump onto. Achievement hunting in achievement panel Training masteries Doing the other stories in game. A lot of the good money making activities are group farms. But because they're open world, you can just randomly join up. Don't have to be an official part of any group or squad. It's open world, you can be in the same location as them if you want to be.
  19. I thumbsed up your post. But to be fair if he gets himself a raptor, he did do himself a favour using the boost. It's just he won't be doing himself a favour making his boosted character his first main.
  20. I want to try out weaver, but I've become very used to tempest and not wanting to fight in melee range. I like to play a profession/e-spec before I judge, but I'm not sure what the best approach will be that won't scare me away or give me a false impression of the spec. Your builds appear to be designed for people who chose weaver before tempest in their trait lines, so they at least have some passing familiarity as they prioritized learning weaver first. Is there a bridging build of sorts?
  21. I think with the hydra meteorites it's such a quick attack that lag/latency can sometimes make it appear that you avoided it when you didn't. A basic rule of thumb for this attack is that you need to be in motion already when the circle appears in your location. I don't think you have enough time to react and move to avoid it after seeing the circle. I find circle strafing at close range is effective at avoiding both the meteorites and directional charge/breath/bite attacks of hydras. They are a little too slow to catch you this way, although the charge hitbox is too large and will still hit you if you're standing alongside them if you're too close! I do have a high ping, so this comment explains a lot. I'm usually running through on my raptor and still get hit, so I wouldn't think it's a movement issue. But probably a ping and latency issue.
