I have to say that these days I tried this build, with exotics trailblazer stats and now I can solo all challenges without trouble.Before when I played power build I suffered a lot, and a playing a game without having a good time sucks.I dont know if all thos who play glass cannon in fractals are skilled Gods or what, but I find unrealistic for example being avobe 90% hp all the time during a combat to get the benefits of Rune of Scolar. I had the exact same experience with ranger. Have been playing for few months now and found the power sb really hard to survive with. I tried that condition build and it immediately won me over. I see 3 benefits: 1) you get to use a ranged weapon as meta; 2) better aoe potential with all the traps and torch skills; 3) higher survivability (which is critical for gameplay experience if you like me dont have years of practice running the same mobs over and over again). In the end condi SB is a great way to get to learn about the endgame and then can always revert back to power build

I have been playing a power ranger for few months. I got bored of the power soulbeast after a while and was wondering the same thing. I decided against a Druid (for reasons posted above). Then last week I tried a condi soulbeast build (check metabattle.com) and I am absolutely loving it. Condi SB has much better AoE potential (offhand dagger and traps) and survivability. Also the shortbow is meta so you get to be ranged again (I really missed the longbow with power SB). There are several ranger traits that are perfectly suited for this build. It also feels very sinister to just stack a bunch of conditions on mobs and then casually move away while they slowly suffer and die . In endgame its important to focus on dodges and evades and i feel with a condi soulbeast you can do that taking comfort in the fact that your conditions will be doing the dirty work for you. Also this dude has a bunch of traps. I can keep rambling but I think you get the point. I would say just buy a decent shortbow/dagger/torch and try out the build in open world for a while.

Hi Welcome Back. I was in a similar situation few months back when I returned after a long hiatus. I would highly recommend starting a new character and playing it to the point where you are familiar with the game's mechanics. I chose Ranger as my new character, but the other noob friendly professions are Necromancer, Warrior and Guardian. As you might know the game is divided into the core Tryia regions (where you level from 1-80) and then maps that are part of the expansions which are all level 80 (heart of thorns, and path of fire). The expansion maps are significantly more difficult and definitely not ideal for new/returning players. The mount quest you are doing is part of the expansion map. However the mount quest itself is not too difficult.So i would recommend starting a new character and leveling it to 25, then go back and finish the mount quest using your ranger (this unlocks the mount for all your characters). It will significantly help how quickly your character moves across the map which helps leveling speed. Then you can go back and continue working on your new character to a point where you are ready to try your ranger again. And to get comfortable with the ranger i would recommend doing some quests in the level 30-75 zones of the core tyria map. That way you can familiarize yourself with ranger's mechanics without having to worry too much about survival.Quick note: Elementalists are one of the hardest to play. They have poor survivability and require a lot of skills to be spammed in short amount of time. However they are fun and do insane damage.
