  1. That really depends. If GW3 is a flop and most people continue playing GW2 instead of 3 they might continue releasing content for GW2. Just look at Age of Empires 2, more people play that rather than the newer AoE games and it continues to get regular new content, despite it being a 24 year old game.
  2. When GTA 6 was announced I noticed my friends on steam started playing GTA 5. I wonder why MMOs have such a different affect on players despite being just as grindy.
  3. It's also pay to win and is full of bots.
  4. Ncsoft just did though... WoW has been going for 20 years with no signs of it being abandoned anytime soon, Runescape even longer. This thread is titled "thoughts about GW3". Those are my thoughts, why do you feel the need to invalidate my thoughts?
  5. I think what worries me the most is the uncertainty. Knowing that GW3 is in production, makes me think that GW2 has an expiry date. Even if the servers are kept alive on life support, doesn't mean many players will play it. Without a mass of players, you don't have an MMO. GW2 is my favourite MMO since it launched. I wish Anet would be more transparent with what their intentions are.
  6. It hasn't really effected the price of exotic celestial gear, which you can get ascended version from the wizard's vault.
  7. The CEO told investors that GW3 is happening. It is a crime to lie to investors, some people have been jailed for it. So it's not just "speculation".
  8. If you haven't played WoW then there's no point trying to explain it to you. I'm not complaining, I'm making a request. And my request wasn't aimed at you it was aimed at arenanet. I'm asking for a class that the average RPG gamer that usually plays mage/wizard/sorcerer can identify with, because Elementalist and Mesmer have missed the mark, at least for my friend who loves fantasy RPGs.
  9. Think WoW, there's Druids, Shamans, Warlocks etc that all use magic and then there's the Mage. They excell at AoE, nukes and CC. GW2 has the typical Warrior, Thief, Ranger which most RPG fans can identify with, but it's missing the typical mage. They could call it wizard or sorcerer, but it would have to be a mage with the whole kit.
  10. Warhammer Online, Tera, Aion, Wildstar, City of Heroes, and many more https://www.giantbomb.com/discontinued-mmo/3015-3661/games/ GW1 can continue without many players because you can use henchmen. The same can not be said for GW2, you need groups for end game content. You've obviously never played a dying MMORPG before, I have. There is a Domino effect, players can't progress without a group, so without other players they end up quitting and the game ends up dying fast. This is already happening with GW2 in oceanic hours it's very hard to find groups now, this wasn't the case when I played 6 months ago.
  11. GW1 is a hub based RPG, not an MMORPG with an expensive persistent world to maintain.
  12. Well I'm so glad you have a crystal ball to assure us all. I mean 90% of MMOs have been shut down because they failed, but if you say it will be here for years and years that's all the evidence I need. /End sarcasm
  13. Just look at what happened to EverQuest, which at the time was the most popular MMO on the market.
  14. It's as real as Bitcoin or the money in your bank account and there's nothing fun about losing any of it.
  15. They don't introduce new cosmetics? Or are you talking about things that gives you an advantage over other players? Either way, I find it weird that people are more or less asking for their current purchases to not be carried over to GW3. Please daddy! Take my money away! 🙄
  16. Can we please get a basic mage class this time? My friend refuses to play this game because she only plays mage classes. Elementalist is not the same as a mage, it's more of an avatar Airbender, captain planet class and Mesmer is also not a mage.
  17. They will still be paying because GW2 is buy to pay. There's always more products being introduced to the gem store, but whatever, if this is what you want, enjoy your "lame duck".
  18. If shareholders all sell their stock at the same time what then? A loss of microtransactions is a small price to pay to retain customers, that's why GGG is doing exactly that with PoE2. And microtransactions are PoE's only source of revenue. GW2 and 1 have both been buy to play games, therefore it's safe to assume GW3 will be the same, so Anet aren't as reliant on microtransactions. Many EverQuest players straight up just quit the game when EverQuest 2 was released and the franchise has never recovered. If you think doing nothing is the best course of action, well it didn't end well for EverQuest.
  19. And ncsoft is funded by the investors, if investors don't see a return on investment they will stop funding. For the past 8 years ncsoft in the west has been losing money. That's what this whole shemozzle is about.
  20. That depends what GW3 will be. It might not be an MMO, it might be an RPG or even a mobile game, if so Anet should let us know. It might just be an upgrade to the game similar to what Counterstrike 2 or Overwatch 2 has done, again they should let us know. If it will be an MMO, I think doing something similar to what GGG has done with PoE2, upgrades to the account such as bag space etc will carry over to the next game, would be a smart move. To those who grinded out legendaries, they get to at least keep the skins in the next game.
  21. Exactly, it doesn't need to make sense. It needs to make dollars!
  22. Maybe not enough to go broke, but enough to have a significantly negative impact on the game. It happened to EverQuest, many people quit. Point is, they should do something about it, because the last thing this game needs is less players or less revenue.
  23. Are you unaware of how many MMOs have had to shut down because they weren't making money? If you can't understand why less people will want to spend money in the cash shop on a game that is effectively being abandoned, then there's not much I can say to help your ability to understand.
