  1. Hey all, Thanks again for the feedback, interesting to see feedback from people on both sides of the fence. I've decided to sell things I have no immediate use for for the most part to get some gold to buy a decent set of starter gear for my toon. I'll also be looking to save enough gold to purchase the story chapters I missed to buy extra content first and foremost. Things like bank storage, expansion and a copper salvage machine may come next, though we'll see how well I can farm gold to unlock these. Thanks again for all the opinions you've given, lots of food for thought! Vincible
  2. Hey, Thanks for all of your responses folks, seems I need to adjust some plans. Also forgot to mention that i'm currently playing thief! Magic Find - i'll drop the plan to max this and let it build naturallyHome Instance - totally didn't realize this too was a 'gold sink' style thing, will stay clear of it for now :)Laurels - gold or an ascended amulet it is thenKarma - Looks like i'll be saving for nowTime Gated Crafting - Seems the general advice is to look into levelling crafting for personal use - will add it to the to do list!Dungeons Currencies - Seems i've been doing the wrong dungeon types for the gear I need. As a thief, i'll readjust to aim for the berserker gear. I'm not really too interested in armour skins, and a legendary seems like its a long way off. So mystic forge it is...@Cyninja.2954 could you explain how I would use exotic weps in the mystic forge, or is there a resource available explaining this? Can I throw in soulbound stuff too?
  3. Hey gays n gals, I got some really useful feedback / guidance from my last thread here, so I'm coming back with some more questions now I've learnt a bit more about the game.I've got both HoT and PoF expansions, and am currently level 70 (levelling is really fast in GW2!). Magic Find Max - is this a worthwhile goal?I watched a vid re Salvaging Ectoplasm's and selling the Crysalline Dust for a very small loss. Currently up to 120% Magic find and climbing. This seems like it will pay off in the long run. Home InstanceWhat are some quick ways to get a few nodes in here? I think I have it right that I can gather from my own, and from another's Instance daily, so aiming for some nodes seems sensible. LaurelsI spent my first 15x Laurels getting some 'starter gold' to give myself some flexibility (via starter kits & material bags), but am now looking to save these. Whats worth going after? Home Instance nodes seem like a stable long term investment KarmaShould I be trading these in for gold, or trying to save for a 'big ticket' type item? If gold is the answer, am I better off following https://gw2efficiency.com/ or going for the map completion fragments from the rotating vendors? If not gold - what should I be focused on instead here? Time gated craftingIs there much profit to be made from these items? Not sure how it compares to things like glyphs for investment vs payback, but it seems like crafting can be a big gold sink. Dungeon currenciesI was lucky enough to get a group which ran every wing of Caudecus’s Manor and ended up with 321 Seals of Beetletun. As far as I can tell my best bet here would be to grab a mainhand weapon as an upgrade at 80. Is there a better idea here? Thanks for your time!
  4. Thanks for all the feedback guys, lots to take on board but I guess i'll have to see how things pan out at 80 and beyond, though by the sounds of it a re-roll may be my best bet if i'm struggling to find groups. A the vest least i'll have deadeye and daredevil to play about with too. If I start struggling with HP, i'll take a look at that invigorating precision talent too, looks helpful!
  5. @ShadowCatz.8437 thats a whole load of info to digest... Glyphs: Looks like glyphs will be something I can look into too when i start to gather a bit more, will consider those carefully even if I don't buy infinite tools. Though with a baseline of 80G+ for the more useful looking ones, i'll have to think about time invested to get a return. A - Gem Sale: Have bookmarked that thread, will be a useful one to keep an eye on re when to buy - thanks for the link! B - Crafting: I plan on just getting one character to 80 first, would it make sense for this character to be my crafter? I heard its a good idea to level crafting professions to craft the 'time gated' crafts which you can only make 1 of per day as a quick way to make gold - are there any specific ones worth going after? (i'm a thief if it makes a difference). C - Bank Slots: Thats very helpful, I think bank slot enlarging will be one of the first things I aim for :) D - Material Storage & Ectos: Not capped any items quite yet, and planned to sell stock excess of 250 for now, but again, will bear in mind that i can expand this. Re Ecto's I saw a vid which said Ecto's salvage to some sort of dust/powder which is almost as valuable as the original Ecto. The byproduct being luck to increase magic find. Would you say its worth doing this to up magic find massively? Was considering buying ecto's and selling dust if this is. E - Saving Space: Invisible bags seem like a good shout, and i'd not thought about stacking unidentified items up, I always just identify and salvage straight away - may be a good idea though! Also noted re oiled bags. Wiki & API: Will be checking Wiki a lot , though API related stuff may be beyond me at the moment, but is something i'll look into when I can, seems like it could be helpful in many ways. Story Mode purchase: Got it, buy from Gem Store! (Are these ever on offer?)
  6. Hello fellow thieves, I'm new to the game (5 days in) and would like some advice about PvE content, specifically around 3 topics: 1.Current set up, 2.Alternative set ups & 3.End Game 1. Current set upI'm currently level 46, and using a P/P + SB: P/P for general purpose, SB for mobility + non-linear AoE.I've maxxed Signet Training, Deception Training, Deadly Arts & Critical Strikes which seems to provide good passive bonuses allowing me to get through 90% of the stuff i've encountered so far by using Dodge + P/P 3 (Unload). Is there anything I could be doing better with my current set up? 2. Alterantive set upWhilst my current set up has allowed me to learn the game in general, I feel like it won't serve me well in the long run as its very simple, and I don't feel like i'm making the most of the profession. What different weapon and training combinations should I try out now whilst levelling to get a better feel for the class as a whole whilst still keeping a good 'flow'? 3. End Game (Dungeons / Fractals / Raids)From my limited reading and watching of guides, it seems that compared to other classes, thieves don't offer a whole lot to a group besides DPS. What can I do to make myself a better group player than just DPSing well and learning the fight mechanics? I see there are skills which provide group stealth, AoE blind, boon stealing, group healing etc. - should I focus on these over DPS, or try and mix them in to have a bit of everything? Also melee vs ranged, seems like i'd be too squishy to stand in 'the mix' to get the benefit of the boons, does this mean i'm better off sticking to P/P + SB, switching P/P to Rifle for some extra range, using one melee set and one ranged set in-case of mobs / bosses with the reflect mechanic, or just getting stuck in with melee and build some extra survivability? Sorry for all the questions but I feel like this game is huge and i'd appreciate the advice of more seasoned players.Cheers
  7. Great to hear more opinions and thoughts from more seasoned players than me. Seems that there is no 'best' or 'must have' options, but a lot is down to personal preference / needs which makes sense. Currently, my main concern is inventory space. A guildy very kindly gave me 4x 18 slot bags which have helped a lot, but my bank is already full of things which look to be useful later on, but I currently have no use for, so some sort of inventory space is a hot contender right now. Are bank slots also tied to a specific character like bag slots are? Also if I use my level 80 boost, do I retain the shared slot it came in? Someone else in the thread mentioned purchasing Story Modes, which if I understand correctly is extra content which is locked to me at the moment until i buy it. As GW2 seems huge, I don't think i'll run out of content any time soon, but is there anything from these stories (other than the experience of playing them) that would be beneficial in the short-ish term? Mounts, etc.? All this is dependant on me being able to save up enough gold to trade for gems to actually make a purchase of gems anyway, and at the rate of me earning gold so far, that seems like quite a way off. I imagine earning gold is easier at max level, than my current level (46), though I am doing the daily quest trio for 2G / day!
  8. Cheers for additional thoughts everyone, i'll be sure to keep an eye out for the tax, and will look at episodes and bank slots etc. as additional possible gem purchases.
  9. Thanks for the additional feedback folks. Going to hold off on this for a while until I decide if I want to pursue crafting. If something comes on sale, I'll come to back to the question of if its worth it or not, copper salvage machine, bank slots, bag slots, tools now on the wishlist!
  10. Thanks for your replies.Danikat, based on what you've said I think i'm going to wait a while and hold onto things for now. Don't have enough knowledge to make this kind of decision this early on without making mistakes I reckon.
  11. I'm a new player and have brought the PoF expansion. I'm not looking to spend any more, so won't be buying gems, however, i've seen a lot mentioned about gem store items like the copper fed salvage machine. Would it be worth selling all the mats i'm gathering now to earn gold to buy gems to buy one off items like this, or am I better off waiting to accumulate this much gold 'naturally'? In my mind lots of these mats in my bank are currently 'dead gold' as i'm not using them and don't plan to for the forseeable future.
