Alright, alright. Put down your torches and daggers for a moment and hear me out. Yes, pistol is technically a ranged weapon. But like a great sword on a Mesmer, it doesn't all have to be and I have a rather fun proposition. So why not think of them both as sawed off shotguns? So lets get these three skills out the way. Names don't matter. Numbers don't matter. But I still want more or less to see the same kind of mechanics.
Skill 1 - "Spitfire"
Range 900
No Piercing, explodes (but not considered an explosion for traits) on the first foe hit
Shoot a fiery and explosive round at your target. Does more damage the closer you are at your target.
Target < 300 Range: Hit your target and 4 foes around your target. Deals Most Damage
Target 300 - 599 Range: Hit your target and 2 foes around your target. Deals in-between Damage
Target 600 - 900 Range: Hits only your target. Deals Least Damage
This is themed after the dragon's breath incendiary ammo for shotguns. No, there shouldn't be burning damage unless Traited with Crack Shot. Yes, its still a ranged main hand, but you get rewarded more for using it in melee range that it should practically feel like a melee weapon at that range.
Skill 2 - "Nothing Personal, Kid."
Give your foe a concussive blow, knocking them down while reloading your gun.
Range 240
1 Target
Does damage
Knockdown
Ammo Restored: 3 for Skill 3
Basically the same style as Gunstinger. No gap closer for it, and to get the ammo restore, you have to connect with the attack. Now because we're a Warrior, when a Warrior pistol whips someone, it should be more like being hit with a club.
Skill 3 - "Dragon's Strike"
"Fire all the barrels in your main-hand cannon to deal damage to foes in front of you. This skill consumes all your ammo when fired and pushes you back slightly based on the amount of ammo expended. "
Essentially the same as Dragon's Roar
Fire all your rounds
Slight Self push back
Same Range
Same 3 Targets
Instead of giving quickness, it could give Fury or something instead.
You can't use both Dragon's Roar and Dragon's Strike too quickly because of the self push back because you'll be out of range.
In conclusion, this would fit in really well with Bladesworn as you would have more access another explosions and more ammo skills, as well as giving Bladesworn another tool to differentiate it from other Warrior specializations. Maybe give it a tie in with the Lush Forest Trait like reducing Warrior Skill cool-downs by one second for every ammo spent (Woah there, this was supposed to be about main-hand pistol). Also, it would mean that even if you don't use a main-hand pistol, you would still benefit from the Dual-wielding Trait.
Thanks for reading.
ArenaNet, I hope you read this too.
