  1. Seriously messed up that this was moved to the "Lore" section, when it has nothing to do with Lore and everything to do with why I'm frustrated with the game in general.
  2. For you. Not for me. The game is boring for me right now. I'd rather do older stuff with my characters because I just cannot get into the SotO story... I'm not invested and the characters are boring.
  3. I don't disagree with anything you said, Kiki.9450. That said, I know it's also just my opinion, and there are many different viewpoints about this. I just know that, for me personally, the complete absence of the familiar cast of characters and the total lack of empathy or connection I have for the new characters leads me to be very bored and uninterested in what's happening. And that's sort of wrecked my enjoyment of SotO. I don't begin to think I'm speaking for the majority, either, although I'm sure there are plenty of people who do agree. To each their own.
  4. I think that really sums up how I'm feeling... I was really invested in the characters I've played with the entire run of the game, especially since LW2, and they've become a big part of my enjoyment. Kicking them all to the curb for this... empty is the right word. I usually take most of my characters through each expansion... I've done SotO once, and I'm not really motivated to even do it a second time.
  5. I haven't felt as invested in SotO, and it's taken me some time to figure out why. It's not just that the story is unengaging this time -- and I do agree with other people about the "filler" in story steps, i.e. fill-the-bar stuff -- or that the maps are a little too unspired. I'm not really a fan of reused content, which is what Skywatch Archipelago feels like (just cut-and-pasted from other expansions), the Wizard's Tower is just a hub, and Amnytas and Inner Nayos aren't all that exciting. No, it's that I miss my regulars. I miss my team. My pact. Taimi, Rytlock, Rox, Braham, Aurene, Kas & Jory, and even Caithe and Canach. Plus some of the other characters that joined me like Gorrik and Yao. I was sad when Taimi's body started to shut down, and when we lost Aurene (we thought, for good). I loved it when Braham came around again. I loved Kas & Jory getting married. I LOVE grumpy old Rytlock. They're part of my overall GW2 game play and I miss them. I don't care about Peitha or any of the others. I couldn't tell you who the others are in SotO, in fact. I don't care about Zojja or the new folks... they just don't do it for me. I spent YEARS becoming the Pact Commander and shaping my team. So why have all of them been left behind? It's really put a damper on my enjoyment of this expansion. I don't know why ANet decided to leave all of those characters behind with this new expansion, and I really hope there's a course correction to bring them back this summer/fall. I'm not saying it's BAD, I'm just saying I'm bored.
  6. It's an account-wide change in Options, not character specific. You can set it to "random" though and it'll give you a different one each time (I think...)
  7. I really don't think they'd do something like this unless they devote a significant amount of time to underwater content, beyond what exists already... and honestly, do any of us see that happening any time in the near future? I certainly don't. It's technically new content for some people, with an easy path to get it. It's definitely new content for EVERYONE insofar as that they are obviously designing the new expansion around using it. It doesn't undermine anything if you already have one. If you already have it, you've had it for a while, using it throughout the game for, what, up to maybe 4 years now? Plus you get increased functionality over the "new" version. This skyscale complaint stuff is a really bizarre hill to die upon.
  8. As poignant and insightful as your detailed response is (ahem), you never answered the question. Why do you need a new mount? To do what, exactly? We have two flying mounts (one coasting, one climbing), two combat mounts (PVP and siege), two short distance mounts (one leaping, one blinking), one vertical mount, one high-speed mount, and one water skimming/underwater mount. What mount need is not yet being served in Guild Wars 2? I'm genuinely curious. I mean, a game like WoW has hundreds of mounts but they all do the same thing. So perhaps you're just looking for a new mount skin? In that case there are plenty available on the gem store.
  9. I like my skyscale, but... everything else is much, much faster. You'll have to pry my roller beetle out of my cold, dead hands, because it's the absolute best mount for traversing long distances in the game. And I still think I use my raptor more than any other mount in general. The bunny is amazing for getting up high, when the skyscale would run out of energy or places to land to recharge. To me, the only mounts (other than warclaw which I don't have) that aren't useful to me personally are the turtle, because it's a gimmick and doesn't have much functionality for solo players, and the jackal, because the raptor and beetle do everything better.
  10. It genuinely doesn't matter. ArenaNet never once promised you that you'd get content for 3 or 4 years by only purchasing an expansion. You're the one ranting like a madman about how it's some sort of criminal activity that you're having to pay for more expansions. If you don't like it, don't bloody well buy it... no one is forcing you to.
  11. There are specific parts of EoD that you need a raptor for, including that one heart in Kaineng. Yes, they give you a borrowed raptor for it. But that's kind of my point... imagine what they could do when the build content exclusively around a particular mount. That's obviously what they're doing here.
  12. Utter nonsense. This is the fourth expansion that you'll be paying money for. The fourth time, not the first. You just got used to having to pay for an expansion every couple of years. They've now changed it to a yearly cadence. There's nothing illegal about it. Go cry into your juice.
  13. I doubt anyone on the fence about buying an expansion is really going to be persuaded by one shared inventory slot. (I don't disagree that having another SI slot is great, I use all of mine as it is!) 🙂
  14. Who really cares, though? We have two flying mounts (one that coasts, one that flies), a water skimmer that turns into a submarine, three legit ground speed mounts (zippy raptor, teleporting jackal, and the roller beetle that outdoes both of them), the leaping bunny, and two that have very niche uses, turtles and warclaws. Do we honestly need yet another one? To do what, exactly?
  15. Nonsense. They want to build content around the skyscale (and gryphon). Those are existing flying mounts already in the game. They built EoD around having raptors (that's why you got one in the intro to EoD if you didn't have it from PoF) and riding skiffs. That wasn't lazy either. I mean, honestly... some of you are just inventing problems in your heads today.
  16. In other words, they've told you that you're going to get a skyscale mount very easily at the beginning of this expansion, on the day the expanion is announced, and your actually issue is that you haven't been told how it will happen? My dude, you'll find out in late August when the rest of us do. You don't have to spend a penny right now. You can wait until it comes out and then all your questions will be answered, right there on the GW2 wiki, or here in this forum.
  17. You have absolutely no idea what percentage the cash shop contributes to Guild Wars 2's overall financial success, versus the amount they get from expansions. None of us do. It's not published. So that's just an opinion, not a fact. And it means nothing anyway. They've moved to a yearly "pay for an expansion" model without a subscription, that's the simple fact. You can take it or leave it, as can I, as can anyone. If you want to play completely free, there's an entire game (what's currently available today) at no cost.
  18. Indeed... there's a TON of content in the base game and first three expansions (what we have right now). Nobody has to grab a new expansion on the day it comes out.
  19. If you have the skyscale now (the grinded version), you get the ability to use leylines and your wall launch allows you to "charge faster and launch farther". People who get the skyscale in the expansion only, do not. It says so right on this page: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-new-chapter-begins-in-guild-wars-2-secrets-of-the-obscure/ If you don't have one, you'll still get the skyscale, you just won't have those relatively minor conveniences. But you can always go back and do the collection process to get the upgraded one. Win/win.
  20. I don't need another elite spec. I already love the elite specs I play on my main characters: condi firebrand, pistol-pistol deadeye, minion scourge. Another elite spec wouldn't do anything for my enjoyment of the game, because I'd probably skip them entirely (the only one from EoD I even liked was the mechanist, but I don't play it much.) What I *do* love is new ways to play many of these elite specs, with new weapons and weapon combos that give us variety. So I'm very, very happy.
  21. That is not a long-term solution to the problem of wanting to design major content around the use of the skyscale.
  22. It's the very same skyscale as you may have now. They give you extra masteries (3 of them) if you got it beforehand. Nobody's baiting and switching you. They NEVER said they wouldn't give the skyscale to anyone else. They also can't design content around the skyscale if only some of us, including elitist snobs, have it. Buy the expansion, don't buy the expansion, it's entirely up to you. Doesn't matter to anyone else.
  23. Indeed. If it stays as a prestige symbol, then they can't design any content around it. That's why they handed out raptors at the beginning of End of Dragons, because they wanted to be able to design content around the use of the raptor. It's obvious they want to design content around the skyscale this time, and they can't do that if it remains a status symbol to a chosen few.
  24. It's pretty obvious that the Skyscale will be required to explore much of the new zones, since they're - shock of shocks - suspended in the air. Look, I got a skyscale after a lot of work too. And I got SEVERAL YEARS of use out of it. Now they're baselining the skyscale, because it's something they want everyone to be able to utilize in the new expansion, which is their right to do. That doesn't take away the years of use you got out of it. And they're even giving you extra mastery bonuses that the newbies won't have, just because you unlocked your skyscale already. Times change, guys. The game has to move on.
  25. Yes. You realize that the game doesn't make itself, right? There's a large team of developers and they need to make a living. There's a ton of tech that needs to be maintained. All of that costs money. Welcome to 2023. You got YEARS of content basically for free... you can suck it up and pay ANet once a year for more content.
