Zero Day.2594's Achievements

  1. Funny you should say that. If this amount of complaining over a virtual game did not produce any real changes in the game, what makes you think that effort would have any effect whatsoever on world problems? The fact is -- and this is an unfortunate fact -- that any attempts to change things run into problems from not only the people in the driver's seats, but also many stakeholders who do not want change. It doesn't help, of course, that some people choose to express outrage and emotion, which generally gets used against them by those who want the status quo. Disclaimer: I don't condone the hyperbole or insults. Complaining about a seller's sales tactics is legitimate consumer advocacy. Resorting to insults, blame, shame, etc. is counter-productive. At best, it gets the target's back up. And yet, look at what the fuss with EA did. With the social media at our side - so long as enough noise is generated... Though, with GW2 and ANet/NCsoft, obviously it hasn't - and probably won't - reach the same level as EA. But, even if it reaches to the point were a few game articles are written about these mount skin loot boxes and especially at a time like this. It will chip away at ANet's/NCsoft's reputation. And while, the effect may be minimal at first, as more and more bad rep builds up... Hell, on Steam, review bombing was/is a thing (think valve is trying to fight it).
  2. https://www.engadget.com/2017/11/22/belgium-moves-to-ban-star-wars-battlefront-2-style-loot-boxes/ State of Hawaii is also looking into loot boxes. Again, it just strikes me insane that ANet/NCSoft would follow suite with other companies on loot boxes when everyone can see a shit storm just brewing. Some ANet/NCSoft employee: "Sir, I don't think we should release the mount adoption license at this time - there's a lot of negative press surrounding loot boxes, RNG, and gambling... We might get caught in the shit storm." Decision maker at ANet/NCSoft: "Nah, fuck it. Release em - YOLO"
  3. This video explains the larger picture (though still a bit towards EA). If there are people that still haven't clued in that it's not just about GW2/ANet...
  4. For (3) - Besides jumping on the bandwagon to get some views... They're putting exposure on yet another publisher that's going with the sleezy loot boxes. And honestly, the more youtubers and website that do this, the better. EA with it's loot boxes took a hit.Activision with it's match making patent took a bit of a hit.NCSoft/ANet is taking a hit with this. You know, maybe the next one that has/had a similarly bright idea like the rest - might clue in and stop, before they too take a hit.
  5. Thank you for that wise insight. Edit: was my sarcasm apparent enough? I didn't want to be too smarmy if I could avoid it, but I want to make sure the point comes across clearly. It's not insight. It's a bunch of teenagers whining about something thinking they're changing the world by fighting big corporations. In reality, this isn't a big deal, and anet is not North Korea or Comcast or whatever the kids are raging against these days. This is a complete non issue. I'm glad it's a non-issue for you. As for customers being able to change big corporations: have you heard of CocaCola? Read up on New Coke. Oh the customers absolutely can change corporations. And what better issue to rage over than mount skins? This will be on CNN for making the world a better place.I think you're downplaying it a bit, and mocking. This is to do with loot boxes and micro-transactions. No, it won't make a world a better place. But, it hopefully will make at least a tiny difference in the gaming industry (a tiny place of the world).
  6. Of course I like this game, that's why I'm ticked off that the reason I bought this xpac was gated behind 'gamble or pay a further $120 for a limited time to get the skin you want'. I already paid for the ultimate edition, why was this not included, if they were that desperate for cash? OK. First of all. Anet never promised Mount Skins with the expansion at all. I can't recall a single marketing device that stated mounts would even have skins. So you can't claim that first point. You bought PoF as it was advertised. Second of all, if they indeed are "strapped for cash" then why would they include something for free in a package that you bought without them including it? You see how that's silly right? (I still feel like most of you need business lessons ... "making money" isn't enough when you have bosses and investors and boards of directors) Now let me ask you something. Would you have bought PoF if they announced there would never be any mount skins? If you still would have, then just go ahead and pretend there aren't any mount skins. Boom. Have fun! Responses like yours are pretty much cementing my resolve never to spend a dime on ANet again, because they have enabled and encouraged this disingenuousness and condescension. Thanks for saving me money! Does logic often resolve you to not spend money in other realms? Or is logic just toxic to you in video games? People need to stop thinking with their hearts. This is a very emotional reaction to a very logical decision. And anyone who is against Anet trying to make more money, please work next week for free at your job. And never, ever ask for a raise. Lest you be yet another "greedy kitten", eh? Pretty kitten sure, that as consumers we have every right to have (and should have) a say and push back on whatever it is we're consuming. Lest we just bend over every time and say "Okay, they need the money - take it" @primatos.5413 said:kitten why are they allowed to sell somehing to 12 year old people anyway ? Make Game 16+ at least and say what u want .. it is a Gamble System and everybody knows There was a recent discussion with some board (same one that gives game ratings - "E" for everyone...) on loot boxes and gambling... Gist of it is that that board doesn't see loot boxes as gambling. And if they were, the rating would be set higher to Adult or something (maybe Mature) - screwing over a lot of games.

Their decision, is logical. But that doesn't mean it's right, good, or correct.
  8. Yes, they have outright closed the thread that talks about the damage of gamble boxes instead of merging it. Interesting, huh? Yeah, I noticed that too. All of our psychological evidence gone in one fell swoop, when they eventually clear it away. I might repost my stuff in this thread just so everyone gets a chance to see it before the other thread "disappears." I love how that merged almost ALL of the other threads, but that one.Take it to reddit. Places that they have little control over.
  9. Companies need time to process such massive feedback and prepare the response. Still, I hope for official statement before weekend. Right, because it's as if they didn't see it happen... and nothing of this type recently has been in the media and in the same industry as they're in - and even if some was happening, those that work in any sort of industry never read about whats happening in it anyways. I can't imagine how the decision was made (granted probably a while ago), and actually launched/released... after EA backlash. Employee A: "You sure we want to release RNG loot boxes after EA backlash? Could happen to us..." Scenario 1:Employee B: "Nah, the community will just accept it because they're so loyal and loving." Scenario 2:Employee B: "Doesn't matter, by the time there is an impact, we would have made enough to cover it off of gambling addicts and loyal supporters. Besides, everyone else is doing it, they're making money, clearly gamers are okay with it." In terms of EA, and it's next big thing - eating up TitanFall producers, here's a video from a not so famous channel made by relatively know SkillUp (also channel/person): That's the imagine that EA has branded themselves with for the time being. ANet/NCSoft seem to be headed down a similar path - maybe even worse because they're fostered this "community-friendly" imagine that they're now wrecking with their own hands.
  10. You're saying they're not at fault, but they are.... they did vote with their wallets, for a long time possibly, and here we are. Alienate the player base does do something - and it's a direct result from ANet's actions, and those that "voted"... Aka "people thinking their opinion is automatically righteous".My "vote" is equals to yours, if I didn't have a problem back, I don't have to automatically have one now because you just realized now that RNG is a thing. People blamed everything they could possibly blame. Anet of course, but also gambling itself, even though so many things in this world are subject to gambling. No selling gambling things to kids? What do you of trading cards? What do you do with RNG items you get in game with gold? What do you of ecto gambling? What do you do of BLC keys? What do you of RNG loot in general? EVERYTHING is RNG, paid or not, hidden behind "gold" (so potential irl money) or not.And yes, even if you can buy the infamous permanent bank access, given its amount, if you strictly talk gem value it's much higher than these skins, yet somehow it's still wasn't a problem back then. So KICKING people now, because somehow now the general consensus is that players decided this one wasn't going to pass, while they let it go for years, is absolutely stupid. It's stupid, it alienates players, and that's not gonna get you what you want. You can either be a silent guy who simply give the feedback that they won't buy mounts until they can select, or you can find people to blame.Blaming it on gambling in general or whales is simply unacceptable. I totally agree with you, I feel the same  Oooooh trust me my good sir. I have seen to many people who have fallen into this trap today in LA. Meh... Honestly the thought of not inviting people with skins into parties/booting them from parties is kind of lingering at this point... Wait people boot people from parties because they got the new skins? Not yet - but hey that's one way to further the message. I think people are doing that now as we speak. I herd from a friend that people are being kicked from guilds because buying the RNG loot box skins is hurting the game. Congratulations, these people are hurting their own cause.Shame on Anet they said? Nope. Shame on these people. Hey love hurts as they say. Sometimes you need to have some tough love to know you did something wrong. They didn't do anything wrong for getting skins they wanted. If you want to show anet they did something that is alienating the playerbase, this is definitely the worst way of doing so, by forcing your opinion down the throat of other players.Next time start kicking people having lots of merchant express or perma bank or whatever. And see how long it lasts. Did nothing wrong? If you spend any money on something that is this type of RNG loot box corruption, taking advantage of people's addictions and so on your not helping by giving the company who made this gambling system your money. Your part of the problem or you have a problem. But hey i'm just one guy on the net. But I know who can help in this situation. Jim take it away I am addicted to gambling, I simply won't take the easy path and blame each and every company that uses gambling methods. If you actually open your eyes, gambling is everywhere and this mount thing is the least hurtful we've gotten in a while. Also it's a funny thing, you basically say that these gambling addicts are victim, but somehow it's not a problem to kick these victims in the name of revolution?Which side wins? Kicking these people or considering them victims? Also, everyone is responsible for their actions, I am responsible for my addiction as much as a smoker is responsible for his. Well I am sorry you have a gambling problem but let me be clear. The guild kicking I don't like but the party kicking like many have been saying, some people don't like to play with people who ruin the game for others. I have seen many players in LA saying they don't care what there doing is good or bad for the game so in term why should I or anyone else care if they get kicked from a party. Guild is one thing but party, there are more fish in the sea as they say. All this mentality of "I don't care I get skins now" is telling anet "hey guys they love this new system let's keep doing it". What is going to happen when the next RNG loot boxes is added? And the next one? And the next one? It will spiral out of control and who will suffer from this? People who have gambling problems and people like myself who love the cosmetics they make and it's all thanks to the people who told me today "I don't care". I don't think many people are telling you they don't care. I do care. I wish my casual friend could get back in game, get the mount he wants and have fun with it. I get it.What I don't get, nor accept, is the total overreaction on this particular topic. We HAVE to be honest here, it's less about the fact it's a new RNG and more about the fact that this time around, really a LOT more people want these skins for many reasons (cause mounts are cooler than gliders, cause it's really new, cause there's no alt skin in game) etc. And lots of these "people" aren't used to gamble for what they want, like some of us are. This doesn't mean they get to step in and call Anet (and other players) names. I do support every person in this thread coming up with ideas to make this system better - while still making it a win for Anet. The solution HAS to be a win for Anet too, because it's in our interest as players to have a game that last for a long time. There were quite a few interesting solutions, and I'm sure they're looking at it right now.But let's be honest, involving infamous youtubers that will compare this to EA/Activision level of BS was taking it too far. Kicking people is taking it too far. The top 1 priority for Anet will be to make money, it's how it is and we have to accept it, now we just need to convince them that the way for them to make more money is by trusting all these people who calmly said they would support anet if they drop RNG... and not fighting each other. It needs to deescalate or everyone will lose.Ha.. I would say that's a bit naive, perhaps as equally naive as what I'm about to write. It should escalate further, and the further the better. Get more press out on this, spreading to more people... effectively ruining ANet's imagine (by a certain amount), which in turn drives their profit a bit down (as opposed to up as they were planning to do) - taking a bit for their own actions. EA took a hit, Activision took a hit. And seems like ANet is lining up to take the next. Who knows, maybe the next one will clue in.
