  1. I agree with all of that, including being (I guess) a 'hardcore casual'. The pace, the amount of stuff on the screen, the fact when somebody is downed, if not rezzed and they die they're dead for the whole thing... revive orbs don't work, the unique attacks that the mobs throw at you, yeah, this is no walk in the park. That said I got it on my fourth or fifth try. I think we may have been bolstered by one or two raiders, but there were definitely casuals in my group. But casuals like me who'd done this enough to have a basic idea what to do, and who were very good to rush to downed players and get them back on their feet. We lost one guy to 'The Three Amigos', then very, very nearly wiped at the very end two or three times, one or two of which there was only one person on his feet getting the rest of us back up. By this stage the boss was nearly dead. It was kind of epic, really. So, yeah, this is not easy at all for casuals. I really don't think the turtle, advertised as it was, should be gated behind it. But I also don't think this should drive anyone from the game. If you're casual and don't really care about the mount, you might well not enjoy the strike. But, if dang it you want it for whatever reason, you collect the mounts, who knows, just figure it's going to take a number of trips through the strike but eventually you'll get it. Assist downed teammates, learn some of the special attacks (when you get a number over your head, PLEASE run away from your teammates. You'll save yourself and them serious damage)... It's not easy for casuals but it can be done.
  2. Gave it more than one try. You obviously are not aware of the gulf between equipped elite players and casuals.
  3. In other words, don't be a casual player, play like you do! There are casual players, and there are players like you. And even other kinds. But don't pretend you understand us. You may enjoy strike missions. A casual player almost certainly won't. I play a game to unwind, not to get stressed. It may be an obstacle I have to overcome, but once I do, I won't be going back.
  4. I have tried the strike mission. It is not for casuals, because of gearing, technique, experience, the list goes on. If you enjoy that kind of content, fine. But asking casuals to do this is like taking someone who doesn't know soldiering and dropping them in a war zone. It just isn't going to end well.
  5. Get rid of the strike mission. Unless you want to lose a bunch of casuals, lose the strike mission.
  6. Well, I've tried it a couple of times. This is not going to cut it for casuals. If this remains a requirement, Anet will lose people over the boredom (waiting to get into a mission, waiting to see if the survivors can pull it off) and the frustration. Bad experiences. Not amused.
  7. The strike mission is not for casual players. I've tried it. Most casuals do not have ascended gear. When you die, that's it. And only 10 players to start with. Casuals are not prepared for this. It's hard to see what to do with so much stuff on the screen. And this after waiting for a long time to get a mission. Then watching to see whether the remainders are going to be able to finish the mission in spite of the losses. So, is this fun? No. Anet will lose people over this. I noted, by the way, that some of the people advertising a group were speaking in the jargon and abbreviations that only a raider would know. Between that and the lack of ascended gear, Strike missions really shut out casual players.
  8. Same. Once you figure out how to stay on top of them, know when a new one has popped up, the EXP just rolls in...
  9. Of course it was tested, I'm sure ArenaNet would do THAT much. But now it's being tested on a much broader scale, by a wider range of people with more diversity of thought and experience, and a common observation is that the scaling is wrong, that an event with fewer people goes quicker than the same event with many more people of similar skill. This is feedback from multiple customers, and ArenaNet would do well to consider it. And it's not in the realm of "cancel all the strikes and events and make it something you buy." This is looking at a basic mechanic.
  10. Casual here. I haven't done the strike mission, I'll take that on tonight. I've done the rest, and all I'd ask for is that ArenaNet work on the scaling. The void creature event went terribly with a huge crowd. With a moderate group we sailed right through it. In the first case I came out thinking "Jeez, I have to go through this HOW MANY more times?" With the smaller group I can out thinking "What, is it over? We killed it? That quickly?" There are reasons folks are alarmed at the difficulty of this chain. I think a big reason reason is the scaling.
  11. It's the scaling. I tried Tuesday night with a large bunch of people, and it failed. I tried it today with a much smaller group, it was quite a fight (for a casual player), but we won it soon enough. I think it really is the fewer the people, the better. Or at least not a LARGE group.
  12. THIS! I did this mission tonight with far fewer players involved, and it was over fairly quickly, successfully. It is indeed the scaling, it is indeed way off, and that helps explain the wide difference between the perceptions of the casual players and the raiders. Hang in there, Casuals!
  13. It really is comfortable to casual players, and I am one. Some of the events don't scale well yet when a lot of people try them, and that causes folk to think they're hard to do. Then you get one that DOESN'T have too many people doing it, and it's not bad at all. So, yes, I'd recommend it.
