  1. From what I have seen, there is a new portal dedicated to Convergences in the Wizard's Tower. Run directly south from the Tower Courtyard Waypoint. Convergences are placed adjacently to the Strikes portal, in the Rift Hunter Lounge POI. According to the wiki, the public instance becomes accessible every three hours at XX:30. I have no idea what LFG category people post their squads at though as I haven't seen anyone post an LFG yet.
  2. I hear you. While I agree with much of the criticism directed towards the game and ANet, I choose to like what I like about the game and only voice my complaint when a problem actually affects me. The negativity surrounding soto surely comes from understandable worry that content moving forward may be of lesser quality among other things, but I believe in the "wait and see" sentiment before I judge. For the time being, I'm very much excited for this expansion - and while I may wait some time before actually buying soto for myself, I don't believe that it's going to be objectively bad. Unlike the people mindlessly doomposting with no end in sight to that behaviour, I will just stop playing the game and move on until something entices me to return. Of course, GW2 means a lot to me, but there is so much more to life than GW2 - and if I were to think otherwise, I would likely need to change my mindset into a healthier one. It is perfectly okay and healthy to complain when you are unhappy. That is, until you begin to disrespect any opinion remotely conflicting yours and spend most of your time complaining in the forums about the same game you have stopped playing. That is exactly when it gets toxic. Beyond that, you need to understand that the internet has always been a cesspool of negativity and toxic positivity with rarely any in-betweens. This forum is no different. The same applies to the subreddit. Both places are full of either worn-out veterans or people eager to find a bandwagon that they can jump on. As such, they are not representative of the entire community - for that, just engage with people in-game. The best thing you can do is ignore these places to the best of your ability, and just enjoy the game until you lose interest. You are under no obligation to think and feel a certain way, and no internet stranger's opinion should affect how you see things. inb4 I get confused emoji'd to oblivion I guess
  3. This year. *sees Studio Update is dated 2021* Oh wait...
  4. More world exploration, the wizard/Mount Olympus/celestial vibe of Amnytas. Subsequent features that will sadly not release on day 1, like the open world legendary armor. I will wait at least one week before buying soto, however, as pre-purchasing could be a very bad idea.
  5. I feel like ANet's business strategy is to set low standards, so that their minimum viable product appears better than it is... Edit: I'm looking forward to SOTO, and I have hopes for it, but the trailer shown so far has not added to my hype.
  6. tl;dr To this day, I have yet to see higher levels of toxicity IN-GAME. From my experience, 99% of encounters are friendly and non-toxic. First, what's your definition of "toxicity"? Where have you encountered most of said toxic behaviour? Does it involve elitism? Bullying? Hostility towards each other and lack of open-mindedness? If so, here's my opinion. Having played this game for a couple handful of years, I would say that the GW2 hasn't gotten more toxic - it mainly depends on a little bit of luck and which portion (in-game, Forum, Reddit) of the community you are interacting with. The (especially PvE) portion of the in-game community is mostly fine and full of folks wanting to chill and play the game. Reddit and the Forum you have to visit with the expectation that you'll find a lot of criticism directed towards GW2, which is common for many games. In addition to that, it is important to remember that the unhappy part of the community is always going to be the most vocal - the rest are busy playing the game. That being said, GW2 is not without its flaws. You are going to have people rightfully complaining about said flaws - sometimes ending up in long and uncivilized debates - and people who may go out of their way to encourage toxic positivity, completely disregarding constructive criticism and seeing the game through rose-tinted glasses. For a good chunk of the time, though, the criticism is by people who love the game and want to see it grow. In these cases, it is often out of concern and not meme levels of doomerism. If it is not the criticism/doomerism part that is bothering you, then I don't understand why the game would feel more toxic to you. I would say that one visit to a different MMO community is going to set you up for disappointment, as - speaking from experience - it is a lot less forgiving and welcoming as GW2's has been. GW2, by design, encourages players to want to co-operate. With that in mind, I firmly believe that in-game, the casual portion of the game (having done lots of open world metas and achievements) has been accommodating. Needless to say, I may even strike conversations with random people during my daily Tequatl run. The few unlucky encounters I have had the years would either be kicked from the group, ignored, or pushed away by others. Good stuff. But hey, your mileage may vary, I suppose.
  7. Speak with your wallet. They are testing a new price cap for capes and potentially other accessories. If this sells well, the cap will most likely increase.
  8. I believe they have for some reason assumed that a screenshot would be enough to generate hype for the week leading to the Episode's release. Then again, I don't understand why they have to drop the trailer on release day, but knowing the game's marketing... it is what it is.
  9. Then let those people who won't be able to run it speak for themselves, [even though they can upgrade for pretty cheap nowadays]. This is outrage for the sake of outrage. Christ.
  10. I chose the Starshell for the Roller Beetle! I certainly didn't expect that there'd be such a big selection of skins across all mounts to choose. Thank you, ANet! ^^
  11. Same problem here, with the same skins. I can move around but my Skyscale is completely invisible, so it looks like my character is floating. I don't understand why this hasn't been fixed yet.
  12. That's true. They're vague about their experience with the game. There are cases of people having played GW2 for a few hours years ago, and then asking this question now that the game has been announced for release on Steam.
  13. Regional prices could be considered a fair excuse, especially if OP hasn't invested a lot of time on their original account. There are countries where the game can be expensive.
  14. It is to be expected. However, it never meant that the influx will consist entirely of toxic players. Just as there are going to be toxic players, there are also going to be nice players. But I am of the belief that the way the game works encourages positivity and co-operation, which I think helped with the in-game community being as friendly as it is today. It's not flawless, but it helps. Sometimes, toxicity in a community based around an interest stems from the stress said interest causes. What we can simply do is ignore/report the bad ones and help the good ones feel welcome. If they spread the word that the GW2 playerbase is a welcoming and friendly one, more people who prefer a welcoming and friendly playerbase will turn to GW2. What is good about Steam is that it'll encourage many people to give the game a try. For some reason, some of them refuse to try a game if it's not out on Steam. At the same time, it's just good exposure for the game. When it releases, many users will find it when browsing the MMORPG tag, and it may even be visible on the store's front page banner. I'm not quite sure how likely that is, though, as I don't use Steam too often to notice. Considering ANet's marketing (or the lack thereof), many still assumed that GW2 is a d.ead game. With the announcement of its Steam release, however, there's already people interested in trying the game out from what I've seen. I personally have my reservations as to how much the playerbase will grow, but I believe that any growth is good growth, something that especially GW2 will benefit from.
  15. It's to create some kind of artificial scarcity. If everything were to be available in the Gem Store at once, you'd easily forget about that one skin or utility item you want to buy, because then you wouldn't feel rushed to get it. That may or may not end up in you not buying it at all. If there is FOMO, it's more likely people will make a purchase - and fast. At the same time, it's not really easy on the player to open up the store and be overwhelmed from the amount of things there are available (which for me personally were very overwhelming when starting out). This is also known as decision fatigue. Sadly, that could mean you may be in need of a specific Gem Store item, but it's not around when you need it the most. But when it does cycle back into the store, for one reason or another you cannot, or simply do not feel the need to buy it. It's never happened to me, but I've seen a few cases where this is true. If you're interested in something, you can check it out on the wiki and scroll down until you find the Gem Store History. It'll help you guess roughly when said thing will cycle back in. Otherwise, there are lists (forgot the name) that are datamined, which in most cases show what the next few Gem Store updates will be. Again, it's not 100% final, but it's often accurate. While ideal, it's important to remember that the Gem Store is important for their income. I may not be a fan of how expensive it can be, but it helps with the game's longevity.
  16. Yeah, I main Mesmer, it's my favorite class, and I thought that since even Ele got some positive attention, no class would be singled out in this patch. Hooray me, I was wrong. They really love their flaws, huh.
  17. In cases like this, contacting CS will get you sorted out. If you explain this to them, they'll almost certainly refund you the materials or give you the Gift you were supposed to have gotten. They're excellent with stuff like this. I don't think it's necessary. They seem to be able to see that for themselves. My friend accidentally discarded something, and provided no screenshot/video proof to CS, and what was lost was deposited back into their account anyway. So there has to be an activity log of sorts. Good luck!
  18. Well, like I said not long ago, and I don't want to end up being rude... if you don't support this kind of practice, don't buy it. If this price becomes the standard for jade bot skins, it may be so because enough of you bought it. You may not like the price, but buying it anyway means you support the decision. Also, this oversight has been reported by a few players before. The fact it's still there means it was probably intentional, if it has yet to be addressed.
  19. While I hope that the 10th gift will have something nice, how about they change the fact that player age is apparently decided by CHARACTER age and not account age? It's such a slap in the face for unsuspecting people who have deleted their oldest characters.
  20. You will unlock all the expansions (Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire and End of Dragons) with Collection Standard, but not the in-between DLC known as Living World, which has Seasons 2, 3, 4 and Icebrood Saga (5). Buying the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions will not give you the episodes, either, so don't fall for it. You can, however, buy these Seasons by exchanging gold for gems. What I suggest is that you buy the bundle for any Season you want in the gem store. It's cheaper than buying each episode individually from the Hero panel. I don't understand why it's made that way, but I believe it's (sadly) intentional. As a side note, Season 2 has no new maps, but if I remember correctly, there's a lot of central Tyria mastery points you can get from it. It's also necessary to complete a long achievement (Return To) for a legendary amulet. So if you want my honest opinion, don't prioritize it yet unless the story interests you.
  21. While I'm all for an engine upgrade and that upgrade alone (despite being virtually impossible), I'm against a GW3 at the moment. GW2 has plenty of life left, as well as plenty of time to revive abandoned ideas and improve existing ones. With their current marketing methods being abysmal, funding GW3's development may cripple the company, lol. Remember the time they slapped a "Heart of Thorns" logo on a toaster and called it marketing? Or that one taxi cab... thing? I sure do.
  22. Wait.... seriously? And people are still buying this scam? Incredible.
  23. ANet excels in making questionable decisions, but they know a GW3 at this point in time would be really risky. MMOs are hard to make and especially maintain. Believe it or not, that's why it's hard to keep an MMO truly F2P as well. MMO-scale servers are costly, about as much as having to release content updates, which also requires paying your developers for it. That article is overly-speculative trash.
  24. For the love of God, when will people stop thinking inspiration = plagiarism! It's not! Especially over symbols that are now public domain! Red/Blue are common replacements of Black/White, too. You can see it everywhere. GW2 so happened to go along with that. This is inspired by the theme of yin-yang, and two koi fish sometimes artistically associated with it. There's nothing new about it. Nothing. Anything cyberpunk is nothing new, either. It's been a thing since the '80s or so.
  25. I'd rather feed myself for a few days with 20 euros than buy a tiny skin that I can't even see for longer than 3s. That aside, I don't think it'd be too wise to buy the skin at its current price. Because remember - the more people that buy it at 1600 gems, the more likely it is that ANet will normalize this price threshold (for future jade bot skins, at the very least). Of course, it's not absolute that this will happen, but it's one of the more common business practices. Please, don't settle for this.
