well said, and I believe, that while casuals make up for definitely most of each mmorpg players (and GW2 by far) they will rather not visit forum (even less likely to voice and opinion). If they won't be able to play as they want, they will simply leave.
or maybe after work I am not that inclined to burn myself away with an intensive gaming session rather than I would like to relax a bit. If statistics are to believe and average player is around 35 y.o. then I may be in the majority, but I am not expecting to be defended by them. I myself very rarely speak up on forums. I had done that here only because mechanist has given me fun I was looking for in GW2 since 2014 (with intermissions).
I would love to be able to jump in any other spec and have 1 simple build viable for most occasions. So far, between Lord Hizen and Vallun, I had found mechanist, scourge, renegade and mirage to be relaxing, effective, fun. But mechanist seems to be the best for mostly solo players which I would assume, there are many and ranger is surprising not that easy for soloing elites, champions, meta events and rarely strikes.
kinda contradicting yourself over there. But yes, it is unhealthy that one spec is overpopular, I'm not sure why exactly but I am guessing some super boon build while good dps, something I heard many times in the past over firebrand/scourge.
I think Mechanist answers to more needs of players than just good end-game build. I also think that looking over which classes are popular in GW2, it would again show us that those are mostly simpler professions, not necessarily "absolutely the best". When you look through WoW's classes' popularity it will show similar trends (easy classes are popular despite nerfs or being underdog for a season or two).
I was actually surprised by the backlash here. I am guessing that there are a lot of people that would like to get similar status for their favourite classes as mechanist/scourge/firebrand are holding as of now. Which I hope that they will receive.
In general - This seems like the eternal discussion between casuals vs hardcore. I am coming from WoW - over there one can easily see what catering to end-game players leads to in the long term.
