  1. This is literally PvP in any MMO, though. WoW is the same exact kitten. BDO is even worse and so fast you have 0% chance of understanding anything without a LOT of knowledge. ESO is the same. I can't think of a single MMO that has good, organized PvP where you can just start watching as a completely new player and start to grasp what's going on. The genre just doesn't lend itself to that kind of viewing.
  2. Honestly I'm not worried about group play. All of my time is either spent in sPvP or roaming WvW solo. I know Ranger isn't meta in WvW as far as groups go, but it's a monster 1v1/1vX class which is why it appeals to me. I'm leaning more towards Ranger, not because it's easier to play, but because it seems like (from the content I've watched so far) it has better 1vX potential than shatter Mirage.
  3. I mean, even I can tell the kind of person he is, responds with 'don't go ranger' with zero context. Probably just another kid that hates anyone playing a meta spec and thinks everyone should be running around in off-meta experimental garbage to make him feel better about himself.
  4. Unfortunately that video is no longer available. 😞
  5. And why is that? I have no interest in zerg busting. I play mostly sPvP, but also like to roam WvW for smallscale outnumbered fights.
  6. Hey guys, returning to the game after a 4+ year hiatus, considering playing ranger as I love the mobile, bursty playstyle of a roamer in this game. For WvW, I'm having trouble deciding between playing core or soulbeast, and also trying to figure out what the best gear setup is. I see a lot of berserker recommendations, but I always tended to learn more towards maurader builds. Is one outshining the other right now? I've also seen valk thrown around for ranger, so really just confused as to how to build it.
  7. Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Is there a big difference in playstyle between core and SB? Trying to understand why people pick one over the other, as both variants seem strong, but I'm not sure what the benefits of each is.
  8. I'm coming back to the game after a 4+ year hiatus, and looking for some feedback on which class to play. I like playing the highly mobile and bursty role of a roamer (both in WvW and PvP), and I've narrowed down my options to GS/LB Ranger (Core or SB?) or power Mirage. I really enjoy both of these class fantasies/playstyles, so it's really down to these to classes and builds. Please don't give advice on recommending thief or a different mesmer build, etc. - I'm the kind of player that plays one character in MMOs and typically focus on a single build and I want to play one of these two. I know Ranger is much more meta right now and Mirage is a bit nerfed, especially in PvP, but just looking for people's overall pros and cons of each. I keep going back and forth between the two and am really struggling to pick one over the other, so looking for something to nudge me in a direction.

  10. This, right, here. I'm also a long time WoW vet, not playing quite at your rating, usually in the 2300-2400 range and on US server, but I felt the same exact issue that you did. Looking at ladders is very misleading because of no decay. Yes, downstate sucks. I think very few people could come up with a decent argument as to why downstate is better than a non-downstate system, but you can't say other games PvP modes are thriving so much compared to GW2's, because they really aren't. The real issue, IMO, is that the vast majority of people that play MMOs play for the PvE. WoW and FFXIV are the two biggest because they easily have the best PvE endgame of any game out right now, I don't think there's a game that even comes close. Once players realize games like GW2, BDO, ESO, etc. have very lackluster PvE endgame, they leave for games that put more focus on it. And these games seem so much more active and populated because of the huge PvE playerbase, which isn't inaccurate, but if you're playing an MMO for PvP, which I imagine most of us still playing GW2 are, the active playerbases in the PvP scene are probably not too far off from each other.
