  1. While this game was in development. I was playing PWI and DCUO. Tried WOW several times but never like it. As weird as it might sound. I enjoyed those two games at "their time" more than I ever enjoyed this one.
  2. Your statement is simply not......accurate. "Typically" (and almost always), a Sherpa will not climb mount Everest alone or with friends as the rewards and satisfaction are not there. but "typically" (and almost always), a Sherpa will climb mount Everest with other people that he does not even know, help them and even carry some of their gear. They could even become good friends along the way. The accurate part on your stament is that a Sherpa cannot take someone to the mountain that is not interested or willing to learn. However, this accurate part of your statement will not say is correct for regular people to climb Everest on their own if they do the research. While my comparizon is an extreme one, its just meant to prove a point.
  3. Trial and error? It does not mean everybody has to go trough or go on a dungeon with someone tryng to do that. Its in most cases a wasted time for the experienced player. I did not say there were no dungeons: "there were none or very few" .....but just seven still seems about right with my post.
  4. what is your definition of a "casual" Most humans these days are either going to school or work, family, etc. All of them you have to read, study for about 8 hours per day plus family and other hobbies, etc. Meaning you have couple hours to play and to do that you have to spend them in google, youtube, wiki etc? I do agree you have to do some research on masteries, skills, weapons, armor, etc but more than that is a bit too much and even these should be able to learn in game.
  5. Not interested enough to google/wiki/youtube stuff. I'm amazed people do that in an often basis. I only do that when I'm forced to do it and honestly not happy about it when I do it. However, if there was a system as I described above. I would love doing instances. Btw, When the game came out there were none or very few instances. People complained and they were added. At least, that's how I remember it. I was a supporter of instances at the time. My suggestion was that there should be statistics, rewards and records for: mob kills, speed run time, etc. Prior, Anet was more interested in the game becoming an E-sport in PVP. Which I can't recall when that change. My opinion was the competition should be in PVE in instances.
  6. The treads are evidence of the problem. There is nothing wrong with the game having a system which literally reward players for teaching others how to play and GW2 does not do that at all. Btw, I mentioned the 10 levels as a reference on that game but obviously here we would be talking about mastery points and drops. The best examples are the strike missions and some other dungeons. Notice, I've been on/off on this game since it came out and during that time I can only remember being in dungeons twice. I repeat "twice". On both cases I was by chance, getting a random invite and saying yes. They were for the most negative experience as I did not know what to do. Doing my personally story with others maybe once or twice. I cant remenber correctly but it was some bosses situations. Strike missions just the one to get the Turtle drop. The final meta in EoD is extremely weird. This has been out for a while now and most people still do not understand the final boss mechanics, they resemble the ones in HOT when you take the helicopters to go above. Those were good and more clear to understand.
  7. If you have to go trough the list of achivement is already a fail. All they need to do is put a symbol or make something distinctive like a color that tells the player, this is important and not just cludder.
  8. just put a mastery symbol on the npc, item etc. Is that game breaking?
  9. I will list some of them: EoD mastery points annoying This game needs to rely less on players using third party websites for information. How would casuals prepare to clear Kaineng Overlook The game seems to fail on : in-game teaching by the game app and by players. The game does not encourage or promote these things. For instance, I used to play a game in which every 10 levels, the player was encourage to go to a certain dungeon with a squad. This dungeon was like a graduation day to continue his journey to the next 10 levels. The other team members were players way higher up (about 10 levels above). the noob only had two jobs in this dungeon : 1) giving the npc at the entrance of the dungeon an special item that the player only gets once. This is very important 2) to "watch and learn" his role by seeing his team mates playing the dungeon. At some point he will be the one leading other players to it. Questions and Points: A) why would higher ups bring this guy to the dungeon? because without him, the drops and exps are not good (the item the noob gives to the NPC is what makes the difference for the drops and exps at the end). In other words, the game is rewarding higher ups for helping noobs. b) this also encourages to learn the mechanics of the dungeon and players teaching other players how to play their role in the dungeon and both getting rewards for it. On our game we could use a currency to help with mastery points. c) higher ups would even camp at the entrance of the dungeon waiting for noobs to arrive for their graduation dungeon. Meaning they are looking forward to have him on the squad. d) it would also create friendships and networking among players as you typically want to go to these special events with friends that helped you to get there in the first place. This means that often and not you have high level friends who would help you on other missions in the game with the hope you would invite them to your graduation dungeon activity. Btw, I don't want to mention the name of the game because people tend to get biased because of the game itself rather than staying on topic on the point. Just making my contribution on how to deal with these challenges.
  10. I come from a time in which games were very grindy to get anything and usually it was kill the same mob over and over (hundreds of kills) very time consuming. However, I rarely complaint about the grind as the mob mechanics were interesting or you were in a squad with friends, etc. Meaning I dont mind the grind but........ make it fun or interesting at least. I have not gotten this particular mount for the same reason as OP. I found the Griffon very grindy too but it was the only flying one at the time. I got the turtle because it was fun and I bought most of the items @ the market place.
  11. This tread was very informative. I was able to go to my character achivement and pick/choose/track some matery points that I needed for some masteries and I was able to get them with ease. However, I still think people should not have to google stuff to get these mastery points. Talking to 6 kids in a city or catching some ravens with springer or getting some silly book/documents in places/quests/missions I have already been with no indication it was something important. Seriously, if something on the map (document, npc, mob, etc) is master point related put a mastery point related symbols on it. Its not game breaking.
  12. in other games you have to feed your pets. Not sure why here it has little point. It would be nice to have the food for the mount to gain more health, less dismount, etc.
  13. I like the mount as it is. I used to dislike the 2 secs cool down for the attack skill but when you realize the attack is an AOE then you are kind of happy. It's very useful I stay most of time on it including fights. What this mount is missing is clarification from Anet on its purpose. I see this mount like a "tank" on the regular trinity but is not clear if they are planning to add more fighting mounts to DPS and heal. I'm not asking to bring the trinity but this could be a way for ANET to satisfy that crowd of players.
  14. I did it twice. I died quickly the first time. Then lasted almost to the final boss. Either way, I was lucky to team up with several random players who knew each other and just happened to help me and others while I was there. I think the instance is too hard for my taste. I will not return ever to it.
  15. Great events in vanilla. These events need lots of people to show the beauty. However, those are maps that current players have no interest at all due to lack of interesting rewards. I think a way to solve this is with a bit of "engineering" from ANET. They should improve the tool for moving you to another server with more players.
  16. I'm being on MMO for almost 2 decades. I can tell you the best time to play any of them is shortly after lunch. The low level areas are great, they just don't dont have enough players in it. Which is the issue I've been referring all along. They have revamp to areas to bring high level characters to them.
  17. some content should be "soloable" and some should be "group". Hero/ mastery/location points should be soloable. Meta and other events should be group base.
  18. POF regardless how much it was liked. It will be the most consequential due to the mounts. Im waiting for the skateboard mount some of the mobs were using there.
  19. I find the mount is pretty good if you want to take a break from the positioning system. Specially on those bosses you don't have to move much. It somewhat plays like a tank in the trinity though it does not have agro skill, which they should add. I pretty much use it all the time as it helps on survival. I'm even going to other expansions with it due to survival in areas that are hard to solo. I suspect ANET might add a healing and Dps mounts later. It seems to me to be the next logical steps.
  20. Very good. I wish there was another new mount additional to the turtle (which I love btw).
  21. first I want to say Im very happy with this expansion. The turtle mount has really helped me to enjoy the game and adventure to other areas I still have to complete in the previous expansions. My suggestion is a suggestion I have made years ago and in a certain way was added in the maps of one od the expansions. The game would benefit from retro-fitting previous maps by adding floating or underground lands. I still find the population is too spread out.
  22. it takes too much money to make and lots of time to develop a new game. the main problem on GW2 is not being able to recycle the levels 1 to 79. All those locations are empty and new players don't like to play in a lonely world. until they can solve this problem they should not invest more money on new games. Gw2 had a great lunch due to the fan base and hipe.
  23. map is good. some fights are too hard/long in story mode. I don't like the fragmentation of the population by adding new maps. we don't have that big of population.
