  1. I don't see the issue with adding duels in open world if they are optional. Players could duel if they want to or automatically decline if they don't want it. You don't have to be a hardcore competitive player to enjoy spontaneous pvp like this. It's a great way to learn your class with someone else or test gear on something that isn't a static test-dummy sponge. But I guess you could do this in an arena in GH too, so yeah. It's also great for roleplayers believe it or not. They enjoy duels for all kinds of reasons. If it is optional, you're not forcing anyone to do anything. You're only opening up opportunities for people who do want it or are interested in it. If it doesn't affect you then why be a Karen about it? And-- If the forums are the minority of players who take the time to use forums (which is true) , then these poll statistics are an atom in the bucket. There's no way you can definitively say that dueling is hated by most players when less than 1% of them chose an option on a forum poll.
  2. They probably wish to Anet every day for a red angry face, a 'salty' emoji, and a poop emoji they could convey their thoughts clearly with. A picture is worth a thousand words, lol.
  3. I agree with you and tried to say this earlier with much less tact and way more sarcasm. If the devs put the time in to make naval warfare, ship upgrades, sea-based maps & exploration, PvE oceanic bosses, a new WvW map based around sailing with crews, etc... it would make more sense to me. But what we have now is a stardew valley fishing minigame + a multiplayer boat you can place in the world. I was in Sandswept Isles, noticed there's a fishing event there with harpoons, and jokingly said 'oh i didn't know EoD already released, wow'. If the devs are showing us this little, then they must not be very proud of what they've already got on the table. You can show a lot more than some devs fishing and clipping through each others' boats without revealing too much. I'm also gonna say from personal experience in BDO, that sometimes being able to see boats other players place isn't a good thing. It leads to a lot of lag and graphical spaghetti when 50 players all have boats out, some colliding and others not. At least in BDO they added guild galleys with cannons, ship battles, a really laggy Ocean boss, and ship upgrades that impact combat abilities/speed. If I remember correctly you could also customize the appearance with different tiers of armor sets & even run around freely on the thing while someone sails and a few others man the cannons. I hopet his is what GW2 is working towards because a skiff to me seems like dead end content from what we were shown.
  4. random thought but I wonder how many of those accounts are owned by active players that log in and do things. Apparently it is a thing that players purchase accounts en masse during sales, owning anywhere from 1 extra account to 20, 40, or even 200+ accounts to sign-in on with a program for relatively passive gold income. There are some players making a 15k+ gold per month doing this just off the login rewards alone.
  5. Housing in this game isn't great. There's no instance where you can casually visit other homes or see other homes without being invited to private instances. That's why 'housing' in this game is unsuccessful thus far. The home instance is really odd; I wouldn't consider that owning a home that you decorate from a blank slate. It's a block in a city that's pre-decorated and weird. Sure you can throw stuff down in a rinky dink orphanage but it never feels like your space because civilians are living there with their own homes and things going on. Guild housing requires a guild and having perms to decorate, and is a private instance. FFXIV succeeds here in a big way because of the public instances that any player can visit to view different homes or meet new guilds. They can craft in homes, roleplay, test dps, and show off their creativity to the entire community of their server. Saying I am wrong when I put forward a solid argument and an opinion is an interesting choice btw. Introducing fishing and a boat mount simply is not main expansion content material. Unless they do something like BDO and add naval warfare, a sea-based WvW map, and PvE oceanic bosses with ship fights, cannons, and harpoons I just don't see it being better in any way than public-access housing where you truly own a house, decorate it by crafting and exploring old dungeons, raids, champions, and maps for decoration mats.
  6. I bought the elementalist outfit with gems. It would be nice if we could use other armor types as skins though. Cloth and Medium armors are so much better looking overall. If my rev can wear elementalist gemstore outfit I see no reason why she can't wear the appearance of cloth/leather armors found in-game. There's really no excuse.
  7. can't stop laughing at the comments like: housing? no thanks, boooooring. people will just sit their houses. YAWN. unappealing. then two seconds later their post reads: fishing? yes please papi anet let me park on my skiff all day and play with my rod. REAL CONTENT. Man I love me some of that press F content. YEAH! Housing in a pve-centric game is an awesome choice. Just look at ffxiv. The players love that chunk of endgame and stick around working on their houses for literal years, having a blast doing so. It brings communities together when guild houses are involved, and also allows for further personal expression within the game. Housing is a great way to get players to repeat content for mats to craft unique things and also shows off the creativity of the community. Does fishing do any of that? Also for anyone thinking much will change in 5 months from what we were shown... oof. That's just not how it works out, ever. Minor tweaks, maybe, but not the leaps and bounds the players ever expect. 5 months is nothing when it comes to game/animation design, especially across this many character models in a mmorpg. I'm hoping it is good because I already bought it but I'm not hyping myself up too much. If it's fun, great. If not, oh well.
  8. It would be nice if all Legendaries could be traded. You can easily see someone's accomplishments through mastery and pvp rank, or if they are a great commander. I don't need to see a Legendary to know if a player is well-versed in the game or not. All a legendary tells me is that the player logged in for a long enough time to get their mats. It doesn't carry the same status as beating difficult content from other games, and does not offer higher stats. It is shiny and frees up bag space for other gear and that's about it.
  9. Dungeons and raids dead too. That leaves open world PvE and fractals. WvW isn't much better than PvP game modes either, and there are players using cooldown cheats and all kinds of funky sketchy things to get past T3 walls without ever needing to break a gate or wall. The lack of support in these game modes causes a ton of frustration for the players who are trying to enjoy it. For instance, in WvW my guild has videos of players jumping over T3 gates, then porting in their whole zerg. No siege required-- just a nifty cooldown hack to allow a triple jump, or a teleportation hack to suddenly appear on the walls or in control zones (lord ring in a keep for instance). It's a mess. Well kudos to you! I'm glad you're enjoying it. I've had my moments during the leveling process to 80 that I really enjoyed. If you disagree about dungeons, raids, and class imbalance I think you've just not varied your gameplay enough. These things are a fact, not an opinion. I think that this game could be much better if a few key things were resolved. Anyway, happy gaming o/
  10. I've played the game for a month and I'm noticing that the focus is entirely on PvE exploration. It's not great. As a new player I felt the need to buy PoF to rush mounts before main story just to keep up with people doing map metas and group events that I wanted to participate in while exploring. WvW and PvP have hackers/exploits that break balance. Same for WvW-- no warclaw? You die. A lot. It's not something you can really bring up on forums either. People who have played the game for 5+ years will call you lazy, a casual, or say you're trying to no-life the game; there's no correct way to bring up concerns around mounts. You will be berated for it. In addition to the PvP side of things and PvE mounts, there's also the issue of raids and dungeons. Dungeons are neglected. I never see LFG for anything but AC. It looks terrible for the game as a whole and leaves me feeling like there's content there just to say it's there on paper. Raids are very long with little room to run the profession/build you may already have built up while questing. Your entire character may be considered useless or a hindrance just for what profession it is. Class imbalance is extremely noticeable across all areas of the game, namely Necro: the class that can afk farm and succeed in everything else the game has to offer. Not only succeed but stomp tbh. Saw a dude solo Leyline Champ in Vabbi by having minions tank while he autoattacked for a long time. He never had HP issues. Meanwhile I'm rolling around, desperately trying to upkeep HP, and eventually just stood behind the guy to watch him go. I'm tired of the quest system being tied to the achievement system, and the grinds that require daily commitment for the better part of a year (Legendaries that are nothing more than convenience/cosmetic). I don't like the lack of build slots, bank space, or bag slots when the game is throwing stack after stack of dragonstone ore and dust and all these materials at me constantly. I don't like the Mastery system. I don't enjoy the mount skins all being in gemstore. The story fell off so bad that I regret buying EoD: The Fishing Simulator. There's no option in-game to report someone for cheating or hacking to abuse their abilities, yet CS says you need to report them in-game. Clear video evidence in a support ticket results in nothing but a canned automated response. And this is all after playing the game for one month. It's not good for player retention.
  11. I don't understand why this is a point of contention. This is giving me 'don't you guys own phones?' vibes from Blizzcon 2018. Whether I own it or not (and I don't), the content of this particular step is so specific and odd. It doesn't even add a positive element to the boss fight itself to have several people off to the side desperately trying to get a veteran add to target them with a specific ability instead of contributing to the overall goal. Getting the currencies isn't a difficult task. None of the things in this quest chain are particularly difficult really. It's when you throw them all together that the whole ordeal becomes a problem for many players that may not have the time to be online for specific metas, world bosses, or rare events that shorten the grind (ex: "return to: x" to skip material grinds). Good luck with your achievements speedrun o/ --- As an aside, just to sum up my stance on this: The Skyscale quest could be condensed. Easing access would lessen many of the complaints about this mount. As for mount damage and abilities: these are not a Skyscale-specific problem so I won't speak on that.
  12. While I respect your opinion, I don't think many people would share this opinion. The Skyscale quest is much longer with much, much more waypointing and waiting around for just about everything the Griffon chain included. I could finish the Griffon quest in one day without burnout but this is not possible with Skyscale. Facet is not hard if you sit in the spawn location instead of waiting at the board. People still do this and Nayrim. Map materials are easy for the time being due to the revisit quests that obviously will not be there forever. Also the map with the alternative for being frozen is part of another living world (3 I think) that requires owning it to begin with, which I do not. So I had to wait for the world boss twice just to be frozen because the first time none of them would target me over the Ranger/Necro pets. All elementals die as well when the phase switches so there really isn't much time to get this one specific thing done. edit: whether you wait just before reset or not, it's still 3 days. Not everyone can time this so perfectly and cheesing the last minutes of the day doesn't erase the fact that they must be done on three separate in-game days based on reset times.
  13. If the grind to get a Skyscale wasn't so arbitrarily drawn out with constant backtracking/timegates I think this would all be a non-issue. Newer players will keep bringing this issue up for as long as this quest chain remains as it currently is, even after the 24 hours to 2 hours change. It's really terrible because no single part of it is fun. You literally tp back and forth across 30 something areas , revisiting the same places over and over again during different steps (so you can't knock out an area in one go). The map meta in Dragonfall pulls players away from their collection hunts frequently. The material requirements force repetitive gameplay on this map which leads to burnout after all the collection hunting as well. Waiting in-between collections, waiting for a world boss just to be frozen by a veteran add, waiting for metas on several maps--It's awful. It's boring. It's completely uninspired. Why does the timegating need to be there? Why so many collections? Who hurt the developers that made this quest? Every other mount is a piece of cake in comparison to this one, even Griffon. That's why many players are upset. Weeks or even months being at a disadvantage until they eventually cave in and finish this ridiculously bad quest chain. I'm not the gatekeeping type that thinks everyone should suffer because I did at one point. If something is this bad it needs some serious revision. Players aren't lazy because they have criticisms of this quest chain or mount. I'm at the part where I'm taking care of the baby for 3 (forced) days and I'll probably never revisit these maps once I'm done with this bs. So yeah, I understand why players bring up Skyscale advantages so often, but I feel that the frustrations are misplaced. If the quest wasn't this gigantic wall then maybe more people would enjoy the benefits of a Skycale and less people would complain.
  14. People with certain mounts (Skyscale mainly) have clear advantages during meta events as well. Getting from point A to point B faster than others in a vertically challenging map, getting to mobs much faster, gathering group participation turn-ins faster, and leaving those without a Skyscale in the dust. Griffon and Roller Beetle may be faster but their speed relies heavily on terrain being perfectly ideal. With Griffon you have to start high up and then maintain altitude through a lot of rollercoastering in the air. With Skyscale you vertically ascend and stay in the air with little issues especially if you have the mount stamina ability. All that being said, I don't want to play the game without mounts. The overall experience is boring without mounts once you've experienced what it is like to use them. Whenever I head into a 'no mount zone' I just turn around. No thanks. People find all kinds of ways to bypass jumping puzzles through character abilities like portal, rewind, teleporting, or using mounts to fly in from a distance... so, to me, the 'no-mounts' zones are arbitrary anyway. I mostly just wish that it wasn't such a grind to get most of them (or their full potential). Skyscale in particular is a really boring grind yet gives massive navigational advantages over others that can be the difference between being part of a group event or missing out entirely. Kinda like first timing WvW and realizing you're the poor sod without a warclaw that gets picked off constantly. What I'm getting at is that the new player experience suffers because of them.
