  1. Sorry, I meant weren't raids discontinued and replaced by strikes or something like that?
  2. I think that the issue with games like GW2 and gamers in general is trying to recreate some good old nostalgia. GW2 should focus on being good, become better, finding ways to attract the attention of even more people, keeping them interested on playing this game on a daily basis, that's harder to achieve when people within this community say that GW2 is a game that should not be appealing to players that play a childish game like WoW...
  3. For sure, because we know that video games are all about grown up stuff...
  4. Hellomthere. About the PvE content, weren't raids removed from the game? About the Fashion Wars, aren't the best/good looking skins all in the cash shop? GW2 is one of those games that i fear to discover that the loot that you collect in game, while playing it, does look much worse than the one you get from just spending money in the shop...same goes for weapons or weapon skins.
  5. WoW and FF14 are competitors to GW2, ESO is one as well. For you WoW is a childish game, i respect that, but WoW also has more people playing and invested in the game when compared to GW2, Final Fantasy 14 also has more players than GW2...is FF14 a little to weeb for you? Maybe these 2 games are doing some things right compared to GW2 if they achieve more playing retention. I was checking a mmo population chart and GW2 doesn't show up in any chart for population, activity since 2019...so maybe something is wrong at Arenanet's house. Something is wrong when Old School Runescape has beaten GW2 in terms of player numbers and activity.
  6. It's true, WoW had it's prime many years ago, it should be concerning to players in MMORPG's like GW2 and others as to why WoW is still one of the most played games of it's even when it's prime has passed alongside FF14. Indeed Activision Blizzard has some questionable practices, they demand a monthly fee so that people can play WoW and yes they do have a cash shop. but again what online games doesn't have a cash shop these days? GW2 doesn't have a subscription but when it first launched i remember that it was a buy to play game, all the updates after you purchased the game were going to be free...later they realized, like any other company out there in the real world, that they need money so they started releasing buy to play expansions and the game also had a cash shop early on...people often seem surprised or shocked that a online game would ask from their players to pay a monthly subscription and yet again probably the most played MMORPG's to this day are WoW and FF14 both with monthly fees and cash shops and yet they conglomerate the biggest populations in mmorpg's. GW2 was released to try and revolutionize the scene within it's genre, it think they succeeded in more than one but also they have done some questionable things, I'm sure I would find a list if i would browse YouTube or these forums or even discord, if people are displeased with the quantity they got with the current expansion and it's cadence it's ok and they can say it, in the same way that you or many out there enjoy things as they are. There's always room to improve. The thing is that saying that a game like WoW, or any other game, is trash without any other sort of argument is just asinine.
  7. No you don't need to buy WOW expansions separately, if you buy the latest you get access to all the previous expansions.
  8. Hello everyone. I have a friend that has been having interest in MMORPG's, he has been trying a few, ESO and FF14 are the ones he tried already, i mentioned World of Warcraft to him, which is the one I'm currently playing only because there is Classic, depending on how things go or if something becomes a let down for me i will be trying GW2 as well. So this friend of mine is very interested in GW2, he wishes to jump into it before trying more popular titles like WoW. One thing i am not able to explain to him is how progression works in here or how the devs try to keep players interested and wanting to keep playing the game to a daily basis or almost daily, he understands that unlike other games of the genre GW2 focuses on the horizontal progression instead of the vertical one, but what is that exactly? In a genre where people always seemed to love to invest themselves in improving their gear by doing dungeons or raids that would provide them their next upgrades, a more powerful sword or a new and better piece of armor, "Nice we killed a world boss! Now let me have that shiny loot!", how does that work here? What does a player do here to keep moving forward in terms of progression? I know that there are achievements that one could try to complete but we know that people love loot and this one to keep improving. What ways Arenanet uses to keep players interested to play the game daily?
  9. Greetings. I am new to HW2 or I should say that i never gave it a fair try and often in my head i keep thinking that i am missing out in a good one. Same as OP i came here from WoW, i loved it there, i got to try vanilla classic and even wrath of the lich king classic which i didn't play back in the day. I also love to be rewarded by the time and effort i put into games, in MMORPG's i love doing dungeons and raids, my understanding is that the GW2 team stopped making those, i think it's sad and i don't know why they would do that, is there anything they released to replace them? No matter if a game has horizontal or vertical progression i do think that dungeons and raids should be a part of a mmorpg. I do get that many people love to collect mounts, achievements, and so on i love all that but i also love to get into instances, world bosses try to defeat them and be rewarded by it or at least be able to farm those for the things i wish to obtain.
  10. Hello everyone. I was always a big sucker for lore in games like this, i like to know what's going on or even in the events that led to certain outcomes. The world of GW2 looks like very colorful and vibrant but i was wondering, and i often miss this in these games, if there any dark, evil lore, adventures, characters in this game to be discovered? I don't mind the colorful and vibrant world but chaos and shadows are also important to keep a balance i think.
  11. Hello everyone. I was wondering if crafting is really worth to get into in this game not only for myself for my character(s) but also to make some profit using the auction house/market? In other mmorpg's the market is very important in the sense that player can use as another way to generate income, harvest basic resources for example like ore and selling them for gold or whatever currency the game uses. Is that a thing in GW2 or crafting is pointless? On a side note, about gear and weapons i noticed that GW2 is heavy focused on the in game cash shop with all sorts of things but with skins for both you gear and weapons, I am not against that but normally in games that do this most of the gear or weapons for your class that drop by playing the game, from a boss, dungeons etc look like trash compared to the ones in the store. Is i that way in GW2 or there's also cool stuff from gear and weapons or even appearances that drop from mobs and so on?
  12. Hello everyone. I have been in the shadows in the past few months, i have the announcement about how they will be developing and releasing content/expansions to the game. I was wondering if it is known how long it will be, how much time will we have between each expansion from now on? Not that I am against their decision but I also don't wish for it to be a sprint for everyone in terms of trying to achieve things as fast as possible just to make it in time for the new expansion. Also, about the living world seasons or chapters from previous/old content are they going to remain available and is Arenanet introducing new living world chapters?
  13. I appreciate you and everyone else for their feedback to my questions. I apologize for taking long to reply. By reading your response the ones from other members here, i also respect and understand that there are different ways to monetize content for a game, especially a MMORPG, personally i prefer to pay for expansions and for a monthly subscription. For now, I will not be playing GW2 and will see how things play out over time.
  14. Hello everyone. For IRL reasons i have been kept away from GW2 for quite a while now but i am definitely thinking about coming back, or i should say was until i have read the roadmap and studio update. In a way i understand why they are choosing this way to go forward and develop content, games aren't made of thin air, it takes time, resources and people that in many case have families to provide to so yes, they deserve to get paid for it as we all that work do. I have been wondering, nonetheless, if GW2 isn't heading in the same monetization direction of Elder Scrolls Online where every single piece of content or for the most part is monetized? In terms of the content itself as a player there's many living world seasons that i haven't experienced yet, are those staying in the game or are they removing those Living World stories from the game? I am a returning player but also new, i have a character and still leveling it, there's much i have yet to go through in the game, but i have to say that ArenaNet, at the orders of NCSoft, will now come to a path of monetizing everything that they do, where players if they wish to have everything available in terms of content will have to always open up the wallet, to me that will become an issue and maybe keep players away from the game, especially new players.
  15. Hello everyone. I'm a returning player, long story short i never gave this game a fair chance to see if it really gets my full attention, for years i have played WoW and have become maybe enslaved to the holy trinity, to rng upon rng and grindfest instead of a brewfest, i still enjoy WoW especially the early versions of the game from Vanilla to Wrath of the Lich King for those of you who know about that, but in a personal level i can't throw my money and time at a company that's a shell of it's former self. I have heard of people that crafting in this game isn't a big deal or the biggest source of income i keep wondering if this is really 100% accurate or if in some way i could have a steady income with crafting even if it is a small percentage, i would still take that because i really love to get into crafting in these games. I'm currently playing as a ranger, and being a new player in many ways in GW2 and also that i never got into crafting, are there any 2 crafting professions hat could beneficial to me or also to other players?
  16. Hello everyone and thank you for reaching out. I forgot to ask in terms of the story and content how many hours Guild Wars 2 can offer before someone can start to feel well bored or wanting to take a break because it ran ou of stuff to do? Also the new expansion came out recently and we now know that the developers are planning a 4th expansion, so between now and then will Guild Wars 2 get any updates with content?
  17. Hello everyone. I want to start by saying that i have had Guild Wars 2 for a while, i have all the current expansions but in short i have never given this game a fair shot, my highest level character is at level 44 so i'm quite positive that i didn't see almost nothing that the game has to offer, i come from World of Warcraft by the way and while it's not a bad game by any means, i have left behind many good memories and people but to me that company is not worth my time or money anymore. For those of you that have been here for years i'm sure that Guild Wars 2 has had or still does have issues but compared to other MMORPG's out there, for example ESO, BDO, Lost Ark and others that i'm sure you know about in Guild Wars 2 i don't know why but i have the feeling that it is a game that respects players time. One thing that i never understood was, unless i'm wrong, that Guild Wars 2 has an horizontal progression opposite from WoW's vertical progression but what does that mean? I understand that the gear you have will always be relevant but with each expansion that comes out isn't there any new gear like armor and weapons that are released we always stay as we started back in 2012 or all of what comes out as new are skins and in truth it's all really about fashion wars? 🙂 About actual end game, i noticed that while leveling on certain zones there are dungeons but once we reach max level i heard of fractals and raids, are those challenging and they feel rewarding to players to do? A big positive for many people that enjoy WoW is it's PvP there's a tendency for people to say that WoW's pvp feels satisfying and i'm one of those people, well i enjoyed PvP in WoW but i wonder in Guild Wars 2 how does it feel since i see that many classes/professions can cast spells and abilities while moving so i wonder if it can be satisfying to play, if there is a ranking system and good rewards to try and get from this mode? As a player in mmorpg's i do love to dive into the market/auction house and also to get into crafting, i mean who doesn't like to make a profit even in games right? 🙂 So i wonder if it is possible to make a decent/good amount of gold from the auction house through crafting? Is there a crafting profession that stands out more than others as to be required by people so that i could craft the items and then sell them on auction especially as a new player? I also wanted to ask (for whoever wants to reply to this) : 1- For how long you have been playing Guild Wars 2 and what makes you stick to this game instead of searching for an alternative one of those mmorpg titans out there? 2- Did you came to Guild Wars 2 from another mmorpg? If so which one and what made you change? I'm really sorry about the long post, i'm sure i will have more questions to come. Thank you for your time reading this.
  18. Greetings. You mentioned that in some places the issue has been fixed, does the problem with the lightning comes specified in the patch notes? I'm just asking because ArenaNet has been 100% quiet about this.
  19. Yes i know that there is an entire thread with the issue. At least it's not on my end. Probably due to the last patch? Although it seems that others have experienced this a while ago in the past.
  20. Hello, i'm really sorry i just came back to the game recently and i have been playing on and off and i noticed the issue, i didn't see that there is a entire thread about the problem. In a way gives me relief because it seems that many players are experiencing this.
  21. Hello everyone. I'm experiencing an issue where in certain angles when turning the camera all the light fades and the area stays darker. I noticed that this issue has been experienced by other people and has been around for quite some time as shown in this video https://streamable.com/tlciu3 . Did ArenaNet came up with a fix even if temporary or do they know that this is a going issue?
  22. This is true. I think i'm the issue to be honest, i keep thinking that WoW is a good game or it still is the best mmorpg out there when it's not, there are others that are very good as well i just don't know many besides GW2, ESO and XIV because for years i followed the WoW carrot. I'm sure that, for example, if i dedicated time to a game like GW2 i would grow to become fond of it.
  23. Hello Danikat and thank you so much for your reply. I'm sorry for the way that the text was pasted here i had no idea how to fix it when i was creating this post, i apologize for that. As someone here has stated as well i have GW2 and also all the expansions, this is true, i never gave the game it's fair shot because well, maybe i'm just stubborn in believing that it's impossible to another MMORPG to be better or as good as WoW and in result i end up returning to Warcraft even when i'm not happy with the state of things in the game or with the company that probably doesn't deserve my money anymore. What i fear in games these days and for example as you said, in WoW i go to a dungeon, a raid, a world boss or events and so on and i have a chance to get a piece of gear, a better weapon or a mount for example, and i fear that other games instead of rewarding the players, or make us feel like we achieved something awesome and important they instead "reward" players by placing the best gear or better looking in a store, same for the mounts. I'm sure that a game like GW2 that has lived within the same landscape as WoW for years now has a lot of positives going for it, personally one of the things that i applaud in GW2 is it's community that probably it's not as large as some of the mmorpg's out there but it has remained loyal to this game.
  24. Hello everyone. For a long time i played WoW, i only started at Pandaria so i never played Vanilla, TBC, Wrath or even Cataclysm. When Blizzard announced the re-release of Classic i saw it as a good opportunity to try it out and i loved it i'm still playing it but i got to the point where i want to play WoW, which is my favorite MMORPG, but i see myself stuck playing old versions of it and personally i want the game to get better going forward, in recent years that company has disappointed me in different ways and more than once and honestly i can't go to retail, it's like eating cheap fast food. I also played FFXIV, i liked what i experienced but it's not for me. I wish for a game similar to WoW, a big world that one can explore if we wish to do so, loot meaning that one can get better gear and weapons by killing mobs in the world or even through a secret chest somewhere or an epic world boss fight plus having dungeons and raids where one can also try to get juicy rewards 🙂 ...about PvP i don't know if there is other MMORPG's with open world pvp like WoW and where the mechanics feel good to experience, it would be awesome if it had open world pvp but if not i'm also all in for instanced pvp I have come here to this reddit because on the internet i tried to look for similar games to WoW and some of the answers where kind of ridiculous to my eyes, some recommended Destiny 2...as to be similar to WoW as i see D2 as a high fiction space game, more of the same with Warframe which is more of the same as D2 and even Path of Exile... that's a arpg/hack and slash. I seek, as in the same flavor as WoW, a high fantasy mmorpg that has had inspiration in universes like Lord of the Rings for example, everything else that is fiction or space isn't for me. I don't know if GW2 could be the game for me, the game that has been in front of my eyes but that i just ignored out of hope that WoW could become better or improve upon itself or even take some lessons of some games that, for me, have surpassed who once was the mmorpg king. Indeed, maybe GW2 is or can become the game for me but the fact that it has a store filled with skins for weapons, gear and so on makes me reluctant in the sense that me, as a player, i want to also get loot and cool loot from raids, dungeons, pvp and other in game activities and not be rewarded of the pretty/kitten looking stuff only if i swipe my credit card, i also say that probably i missed a lot by not giving GW2 a fair shot at the cost of believing in some sort of renewed WoW nostalgia that has become something of the past a long time ago. I'm sorry for the long post but i would love to know your opinions and tastes about this topic and maybe having your opinions about a good MMORPG to give a go even if it's not GW2, i have heard about lord of the rings online for example but i have no idea if that is a good game.
