When I first searched for a solution to the no screen but music bug, I came across a fix that involved copying a file called something like 'd3d9.dll' from the system32 folder into one of the guild wars folders. Apparently some other program had replaced or deleted it for the poster. I tried this, and it worked initially, but the next time I tried running the game, it happened again. Checked the gw2 folder, the file is still there, so while the bug is the same, and the fix initially worked, it doesn't seem like its quite enough.
Compatibility mode worked, and switching to dx11 and then switching off compatibility mode still worked, at least for now. But it seems like it is almost definitely dx related, and since some people seem to have serious issues with the dx11 settings :I
