  1. For those that the WIN-8 compatibility mode doesn't work for (it doesn't for me, client crashes before even firing) try this: Note... you will probably have to do this before every play session, but its working for me and many others: Note 2: you will want to get your login and password ready because this fix will clear out saved credentials. Hit Windows Key Type "run" without the quotes, hit enter type "%appdata%/Guild Wars 2/" without the quotes, hit enter Delete that folder (don't worry nothing will be permanently harmed) Fire up the client, populate login credentials, sign in. This got me working again but i have to do it before EVERY session which is a little annoying.
  2. Posting this again because everyone i have talked to that has the freeze up Audio/no video - can't alt tab or Task Manager end the process. Please note - this fix will wipe out saved credentials in the client so you might want to get your sign in credentials ready to re-populate or you'll need to do a reset. Fair warning. 1) hit windows key 2) type "run" (without the quotes), hit enter 3) type "%appdata%/Guild Wars 2/" (without the quotes), hit enter 4) Delete that folder (it will not permanently hurt anything though you will have to reset hardware settings and re-save your login credentials at client. 5) Fire up the client, sign in, and hit play. This has worked for everyone i've talked to, though i do note a couple people in the thread that said they tried it and it didn't work. For ref. i'm running Win 10, a nvidia 1080-GTX, and an i7 7th gen.
  3. I don't know if its been answered or not (there's 19 pages in this thread...) but i had this same issue and the following worked for me: I was having the same issue where I would fire the game client, CPU suage would SPIKE to 97-100%, i would get audio in the game client window that was consistent with character select screen, but no video. Moreover, not only could i not alt-tab out, i couldn't interface with anything (no right click, no clicking on anything period, etc). I ultimately had to hardboot several times to get my rig to respond. This worked though and i was able to play without any issues immediately after i did this. NOW... before you do this. please understand that this will reset your hardware settings but you will also need to re-enter your login credentials if they are saved (this should only take you about 30 seconds if you're like me and forgot them and had to reset them, but still). However as soon as you fire up the client again, the folder will be re-created and populated. Hit windows key. type "run" - hit enter type %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ Delete this folder. Fire up the client, sign in, and hit play. The client SHOULD execute as normal. You may have to go in and adjust your hardware settings to your personal preference rather than the software's detected automatic settings, but you can do that as normal in the settings menu. Good luck, hope it works for you all! :) HAPPY UPDATE DAY. :D
