The ability for a meta to actually require communication and coordination to a high degree is something that has breathed a huge breath of fresh air into the design space of meta events. Obviously, due to the reaction from the larger community, the community may not have been generally ready for this level of coordination over a whole map.
What this does mean, is that next time they do this (and god do I hope there is a next time) the community will be more ready for it.
Having this sense of community has made me join a guild entirely dedicated to this meta, and it is one of the only times that the content has pushed me into finding that sense of community in the Guild Wars franchise since Factions. It is amazing.
