  1. It's basically a form of shrinkflation. Just look at the wiki where it is made clear that the new expansion(s) won't come with all the great little conveniences that are from previous expansions like a free Revenant, a free Raptor or free Glider. It's just natural that with increasing cost of production people will get used to the fact that they have to pay more for less. It's like the 1.5 liter Coca-Cola bottles that nowadays come in 1.25 liter size and cost an Euro instead of 89 cents. If AreneNet are really smart, they will most likely unbundle HoT from PoF again and sell those expansions separate for their full prices, to ensure that any new player can actually pick and chose what kind of game experience they will receive. Always remember that ANet is an NCsoft subsidiary where only whales get the full experience.
  2. EoD has the End of Dragons Expedition Contract. It's totally great and a really sound investment for those of us who already know that they will log into GW2 for the next 10.7 years on a daily basis.
  3. Anet's devs typically only randomly react to reddit posts and tweets, the official forums are mostly a space for players to vent their grievances anyway. That said, those changes that came with EoD you mentioned did actually trigger quite the uproar in the CM Fractal and Raid community here on the forums and their respective bubbles on reddit and twitch. However, since those players and the content that was changed are not in the majority of the playerbase, giving those details was no big risk for the in-game economy. The new system looks like it affects everyone. Therefore, the devs will mostly likely not reveal each and every detail beforehand if at all. Especially the fate of Laurels could destabilize the in-game economy quite a bit depending on the future plans related to them.
  4. The devs won't share any more details about upcoming changes to the in-game economy than they already did. They rarely telegraph those changes and if they do, they usually keep them vague to avoid uproar. From https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/new-rewards-in-guild-wars-2-secrets-of-the-obscure/
  5. Nope, nothing will happen, at least until someone posts this topic on reddit, directly tweets it at Grouch, the GW2 game director, or one of the larger GW2 streamers picks it up and openly mocks them for their decision. I wouldn't even be surprised if the mods just deleted this topic once it isn't on the first page anymore. You can't loose face as Korean company, because some of your GMs wrote something stupid in a support ticket that may or may not be true.
  6. Considering that some folks already reported in these forums that the new expansion only comes with the Skyscale when purchased on its own and doesn't even include the basic Raptor (unlike EoD), I guess the light version of the Skyscale has to be given away after the intro or the streamlined acquisition part can be done on foot. Do you really think that everyone in this game is a whale dumping silly amounts of money into overpriced skins?
  7. That's not really news. The Skyscale already makes all other mounts obsolete except the Warclaw for WvW and the Skiff for fishing. You could maybe argue that the Skimmer still has a role in underwater content, but there is not really much of that anyways. Personally, I assume that ANet's internal metrics about player conversion and retention most likely show that a lot of folks stop participating in open world content without the Skyscale and/or that many players stop playing during the acquisition of the Skyscale. From my own experience of playing on a fully upgraded alt-account, it feels harder to get to the collection part than the collection itself since barely anyone goes to the LWS4 maps anymore.
  8. You are wrong, the login-reward is supposed to reward players for logging into the game, hence the name. It's a fairly simple psychological trick that almost every F2P, Fremium or mobile game uses to condition the player to come back to the game. They aren't supposed to be part of the daily grind as you suggested. The problem with the current system is that there is a direct way to convert the login-rewards into gold. Once that is removed, GW2's economy would be less skewed and people would actually have to play the game to make gold (or buy gems instead). I assume that the new Wizard's Vault is supposed to be an incentive for players to actually play the game instead of just gaming a flawed system. The question will just be whether it is put atop the current flawed system or if it replaces it.
  9. This would defeat the purpose of the login-rewards. They are designed to be an easy reward to keep the players happy in their Skinnerbox and encourage them to keep playing longer. That said, there are enough possible rewards that can't easily be converted to gold like the random Black Lion items or boosters to help player with doing their daily chores.
  10. Sometimes I'm really tempted to show the forum warriors that the GW2 forums are a plutocracy.
  11. Well, because ANet screwed up the nVidia GeForce NOW promo last year, anyone who wanted hundreds of completely free heroic editions got them back then. If I remember correctly ANet didn't sell any heroic editions for other companies' promotions or gave them away themselves since then. That botched promo is also pretty much the reason why MCs and T3/T4 mats halved in value during the last 15 - 18 months. However, using more than 30 accounts per day requires a bit of planning and organization (NVMe drive, nVidia GPU, VPN, etc.). Although a somewhat skilled login-farmer can easily log into 100 - 150 accounts per hour without any automation. The gold-per-hour rate is absolutely insane turning any other method of farming into a joke. If one uses scripts or bots, one can basically double that login-rate per PC, although it seems that ANet banned some of those login-botters lately. Personally, as someone with a far above average amount of accounts, I'm all for cutting down the basic login rewards to stuff that can't be monetized. ANet should at least try to balance between heroic editions and accounts with multiple expansions, if they decide that they won't get rid of rewards that can be converted into gold easily.
  12. Sadly, they didn't update the text of the chest with its level 80 requirement or remove it completely. There is no real reason why a non-80 character shouldn't open it.
  13. Sort of... I got it last night on an alt-account (Heroic Edition) on US after running around in a Zerg for around two hours mostly on the same map. That account didn't participate in the beta before. However I can't use the weapon choice token at all (that account doesn't have a level 80 character yet). On my main account (all expansions & LW) on EU, that maxed out diamond chests before the fix, I ran around in another Zerg hopping between maps for about three hours doing dailies and other stuff, but didn't get it. So far my suspicion is that you have to do the beta achievement either on a specific map or all parts on the same map to trigger it, assuming that there isn't a bug that affects which server you are playing on.
  14. You always have to buy expansions with real money and not with gems. Otherwise I'd probably try to get the record for craziest person with most GW2 accounts. You can of course just buy a code from a retailer and use it as gift for someone. Considering the price of mount select vouchers and the usual 50% discount of PoF/HoT licenses, it basically means you pay 30€ whether you wait for a sale and buy a separate mount select voucher or pay full price now to claim the free mount skin.
  15. On an EoD-only account you get a message about Account Verification that has two green checkmarks that indicates that your account is verified, but you can't claim the voucher, because that feature requires PoF. You also can't buy any glider or mount skins since release of EoD, despite being able to use the unlock items if you acquire them for example via a Black Lion Chests. Heroic Editions fail the Account Verification message and can't claim the voucher either, which is somewhat expected. ANet doesn't value anyone who only buys EoD, because they want to upsell PoF. I'd say that is a nice example for sleazy marketing...
  16. The gift requires a PoF license to claim it. EoD is sadly not enough.
  17. No free mounts for EoD-only or Heroic editions... You don't even get the voucher. Just checked some of my accounts to see if you get the voucher or not...
  18. That is correct, but keep in mind that players who have experienced other MMOs might automatically only buy the "current" expansion without understanding that old GW2 content doesn't become automatically obsolete like in World of Warcraft or Destiny 2.
  19. nVidia runs a promotion that gives GeForce NOW subscribers a code for an Emblazoned Dragon Throne. You need to have an active GeForce NOW subscription (the free tier will do), you have to opt-in to receiving newsletters and you also have to enable GeForce rewards. Once you have done that, you can visit the redemption page and redeem the available promotions for you. The site will offer you an item code for GW2 that can either be added via the account management section of the GW2 website or in-game via the gem store. The in-game option can be a bit confusing but it works as follows: Below the big blue Buy Gems button in the gem store is a link for code redemption, click that link and you will see an input field for gem card codes. Below that field is another link labeled "item code" or something similar that you have to follow to another input field for your code that you got on nVidia's site. It also works for Steam accounts as I specifically tested it before updating the wiki with that promo.
  20. The skiff skin of the EoD deluxe/ultimate edition was similar. If you pre-purchased that, you had an unlock item for the skiff skin sitting in your bank that couldn't be redeemed for months. It will most likely depend on what we actually get: A dedicated birthday mount skin will typically come as unlock item for everyone, but it may or may not be usable by F2P & core accounts until they add PoF. EoD-only accounts will be able to use it on only one character of the account if it's a raptor or springer. A voucher for existing mount skins that can most likely be claimed by everybody and directly unlocks the selected skin in the wardrobe regardless of account type. This would mean that F2P, core and EoD-only accounts won't be able to use the unlocked skin until PoF is added. A voucher for an existing mount skins that gives the player an unlock item similar to buying that skin from the gem store. This could mean that F2P/core might not be able to use it until PoF is added, while EoD-only accounts will only be able to use the skin on a raptor or springer on one character until PoF is added. ANet trolled us and we get no mount skin after all.
  21. It's the difference between paying 40 € and 52€ (4160 gems) for the same content which equals roughly 23% last time I checked. The Ultimate version of the Collection only gives you 1x level 80 boost & 1x shared inventory slot. The Complete Collection on Steam should give 2x level 80 boosts & 2x shared inventory slots as it is advertised since it includes the two standalone versions of PoF/HoT & EoD. That means that Steam is 2x 30€ + 40€, while ANet's Ultimate Collections is basically 50€ + 50€ worth of gems. The proper match for the Steam offer would be EoD Ultimate (80€) + PoF/HoT (30€).
  22. A free mount skin will be so much fun for people who only have EoD accounts. There is still no way to change mount or glider skins, even if you managed to unlock one despite being unable to buy them in the gem store in the first place. edit: For those who don't know, an EoD account only gets the basic versions of the glider, raptor and springer. Therefore ANet decided to grey those sections out in the hero panel and block players from buying those skins in the gem store. However if you manage to get an unlock item for a skin via a Black Lion Chest, you can still use it on one character of that account. You can even dye it, but you can't change it or equip it on other characters. Since I'm obviously the only one who owns a bunch of EoD-only accounts and also posts on the forums, I can't wait to see how happy other EoD-only account owners will be tomorrow, if we actually get a mount skin as birthday present.
  23. I really liked the streamer that just streamed the character selection screen for hours on end without all the rambling of the middle-aged gaming bros or the caffeinated gamer girls trying to be cute.
