  1. anet creates some great looking models. Shame we only get to stare at their toes. And this will never be a game to watch streaming. If you play the game you know what's going on on screen. If you don't it just looks like the fx team vomited all over the screen
  2. You can though. gw2 has always been about giving you the freedom to decide what to do. If you can't immerse yourself because of popups above the minimap then you're simply not trying hard enough. I leveled up with my wife after the adventure guide. I didn't use any mount she didn't already have at that point and went through it all in chronological order while getting full map completion in the process for every map we unlocked. It was an amazing experience not at all hindered by a feeling of leveling too fast since we scaled anyway and not because of the popups in the right as it just became white noise. Also the adventure guide does have an end
  3. Because earning gold isn't very intuitive and if your experience was everyones the gem store would have massive inflation or your sources would be nerfed. A lot of the ways you make money as a veteran would be selling mats etc which newer players are stockpiling, using them for ecto refinement, etc. It's also not very clear what's the most profitable activities to engage in. There's also a lot of gold sinks in the game for newer players and if you sink it in the wrong place it's more difficult to recover from. Been trying to understand gw2effeciency better but even that feels like a rabbit hole
  4. While they're at it they really need to stop with the unskippable tutorial popups that persist until you manually click the x. it's a distraction and super annoying in this expansion and metas in particular
  5. I mean if we continue this conversation it's going to get into the weeds of what exactly qualifies as quality of life vs mandatory. Wow gives you mounts and store mounts are basically just gw2 skins. Gold tokens and trader currency are starting to get into gray areas. Can you play this game without any of those purchases? Sure. Do people regularly do that in this game? Doubtful. I couldn't imagine playing gw2 with all the collections, gizmos, etc the game throws at you without expanding your bank, inventory, shared storage etc. We could spend all day comparing these purchases to 'other mmo's' but I'm simply not going to do that. That's why I dipped out. I made my point. Disagree if you want.
  6. Irrelevant. Was just pointing out the flaw of assuming players just buy the expansions and not anything else to try and make a weak point of some sort.
  7. While that might be, there are people who don't enjoy competition in MMO's. It feels bad when I lose and it feels worse when I win because I know there's another person on the other end who might feel the same or worse when they do. It's a thing. sorry. Edit: Almost as bad as I feel about the person who instantly responds to my posts with the confused emoji for reasons. It's so fast I can't even.... Please get the help you need.
  8. I'm sure people who have played that long haven't invested in any qol features from the gem store like storage, gathering tools, character slots, shared inventory etc... They threw away dungeons, two expansions had raids, world bosses are what they are and the revamps just make sponges which is fun doing your rotation for 5 mins like ff14. Didn't get a new fractal with SoTo. You're acting like throwing away game modes isn't the MO at this point. They added two new strikes with this expansion. That's the higher tier content. The rest is mindless farming. I'm fully aware how many people will defend the game to the death but kitten step back branch out and look at the situation from a less emotional perspective from someone who's not completely absorbed in the sunk cost fallacy. I want gw2 to get better but the road it's on straight up isn't it. It feels like the end of its life cycle and it's so hard to see.
  9. In other mmo's it's because they timegate the event and release more as it goes on, not because the weeks previous were unobtainable. If the excuse for that is 'Then why wouldn't people wait until the last week and grind it out?' I'd have to ask exactly why that's an issue in a game with no sub fees except fomo...
  10. You'll find those limitations left and right in the game. When you think you get something that will be beneficial it turns out there's 12 more steps to make it useful to you. I just had the experience of trying to get an ascended diviner's hammer using the specialization collection for scrapper. The collection involved obtaining the machined hammer collection as well. Once I finished that I received a stat selectable exotic hammer with a plethora of prefixes to choose from including diviners. The ascended hammer I received had a choice of three prefixes... I'm torn on this because it forced me to delve deeper into the crafting system and work out how to get the prefix I wanted on it and I feel that made me understand a lot more of the games systems and engage with them. Which imo is the proper way to handle that. Give rewards to those who are willing to put in the effort but it clashes with the philosophy of the game not having the vertical gear progression of other games when your optimal stats are locked behind so many other gates. I don't know the solution to that, but I do feel like it's an issue because like it or not the gear chase is a large motivator in this game for some. For the record this isn't directed at the people who have done the grind for the legendaries who can swap at will or have the fortitude to engage in content they're skittish of, but those on that path that aren't quite there yet. It would be nice for optimal to be easy but simultaneously I feel the game would lose a lot by catering that much to accessibility. I kinda like how much of a pita it was and I learned a lot in the process. I don't know the solution but it is a unique problem I think tying that much into the vault would be an ultimate detriment. You get what you put in and people get what they deserve and all that. Not everyone wants to play barbie dress up with their commanders
  11. I don't unless I'm tracking down specific achieves or working on a collection. I'm assuming you mean the achievement tab of the hero panel and not the gear/build section. Why would I open it daily?
  12. From the latest studio update: Remind me again what category the black lion stolen goods achievement is listed in the achievement panel?
  13. Black lion recovery event isn't listed in the UI like other events and caused me to miss the first week despite playing daily. For those who aren't aware could you please add that or at least in the mail you send specify it's a limited time weekly event. It's quite annoying when I was willing to engage with the content but wasn't aware it was a time gated thing.
  14. Not really impressed with the masteries. It really feels like a situation of 'create a problem, sell the solution' like it's a straight up acknowledgement that they made the maps intentionally annoying to get around. Updraft generators disrupt the flow as you have to stop to activate them and hope you're positioned correctly for it to work. The improved wall bounce is barely an improvement. Fireball is pretty worthless as I'd rather just dismount and fight so they designed a reason for it in shooting the eyes in amnytas in one phase of the meta. Could take or leave locking the crafting of kryptis motivations behind masteries because they're simply too expensive to craft unless you've been hoarding for a while before soto's release and they're annoying to use in the heat of the moment anyway. Yet they're required if you want to do rifts above t1 without leeching off someone 😐. The motivations seem to be a resource dump as you don't only craft them with materials gotten for running said rifts. Combat launch is awesome at times, except for when you're inadvertently still in combat and blow the three minute cooldown because you hit your mount key a second too early. Leyline riding has been more of a hindrance than a help in older zones as sometimes it just yoinks you and forces you to use an evade to get out (looking at you tangled depth lanes). Unsure which magically enhanced ley lines restore endurance or if it means all ley lines. Haven't paid enough attention or cared which says something on its own. Mastery to unlock chests that still require a minigame is so uninspired it's not even worth mentioning. The only one I actually enjoy in the new content is combat launch and it's not without issues. If I had to sum them up in one word it'd be lazy. That's my take on the masteries so far.
  15. Funny, I thought it was exploration, min maxing your heroes, and hm missions in gw1. Mind you I didn't spend much time at endgame after eotn came out but wasn't it all about hm missions and exploring zones etc for achieves? What collections in gw1 are you referring to?
  16. It's only for chests, and you still have to play simon to open them 🤣
  17. That is helpful. Issue with that isn't the grind and I have plenty of shards, it's the not knowing what stats you'd be able to select for such an investment. There's nothing in game that answers that question for me so without having to resort to asking other players or being forced to look it up on the wiki. Then you have people complaining that players are poorly geared or not pulling enough dps because the game teaches you the absolute bare minimum. The wiki is a crutch for poor game design that relies on being cryptic and expecting you to remember what random vendor sells what random gear with the stats you need are. They overly complicate systems and expect the wiki to do the heavy lifting for them and I've seen first hand the effect that has on new players who don't have the time to commit that much energy in a game they hypothetically are playing for fun. The skill floor and ceiling are the widest I've ever seen in an mmo. while those that have put thousands of hours into the content just know this kind of stuff while new players are bombarded with people telling them to go down the wiki rabbit hole to progress after a certain point. Then you get a couple of camps of people, the ones who are geared for the meta and flavor of the month complain the game is too easy while a lot of newer players are put off doing anything other than playing dress up. Yes the game is easy, once you get to understand how stats work, what they mean, how to get the stats you need without gimping your character or wasting all of your currencies in the process, understanding the wind ups and tells of bosses and enemies, what the timing of the bosses aoe's are and which ones you can cheese, what other classes and boon support and roles you need to do said content. It's a lot to expect and the game not easing that process with in game information is detrimental to the overall experience. That's my take on it. Still love the game it just really irks me when I see people complaining about the game being too easy when they have plenty of the only things that matter in horizontal progression. Knowledge of the games systems the game doesn't want to explain in any sort of in depth capacity, time invested in the game, and experience of repeatedly doing that same content until it becomes rote while waiting months upon months for something else to do in the game. edit: For whoever immediately reacts with a confused emote, we're on a forum. It's ok to use your words and actually say what about the post confuses you. Or is it simply a reddit style dislike? 🤣🤣
  18. No gear treadmill where you have to refarm the same piece but from where I'm sitting expansions and balance passes fulfill the same roll as the gear treadmill you think I'm obviously comparing the system to. I'm not. What if a balance pass simply makes the hammer not fun to play? As for exotics, I just couldn't for the life of me figure out where to slot the infusions... Unsure exactly how that's set for life when you lock yourself out of content by only using exotics. It's stated it wasn't the case. A big selling point was that this game lacked the holy trinity yet fell into that trap over time. I'm not comparing this game to any other. I'm comparing this game to this game. I gave you my experience with the system and how much of a headache it was. I already have full ascended I was just trying to get a second hammer for a different spec. Grind within grind and having to go outside of the game to figure out why obtaining that particular stat selection was so much more convoluted than others I had stat swapped before. I clearly did go to the wiki to figure it out. I don't want the game to tell me I need to go to a third party site to work out its systems. I want the game itself to explain it. What's difficult about that to understand? it's terrible for the new player experience to have your inventory crammed with items you have no idea what they're used for and if it's worth sacrificing their limited space for. I've put in my time and worked this out. Because it's how it is doesn't make it good game design. Edit: at this point a gear treadmill game just involves leveling and regearing. This game the treadmill is trying to work out the rules the game itself lays out as how things work until it's not how it works anymore like account bound exotic insignias but only for some prefixes.
  19. The first one where I explained why they are obtaining more experience now.... Doesn't require a wiki. a question was asked and answered.
  20. Not even one line, and mine isn't busy when I'm standing in lions arch fully explored and all it tells me is to go to another zone. Not currently tracking any achieves or dailies. It's just not there. Fractal rush was though.
  21. Now I think you're just trying to be a contrarian. You've been able to get xp through crafting since launch and you also get xp boost as level rewards not just from chests. What I've stated was the only significant change to experience gain so idk what you're on about unless you just like to write a lot of words.
  22. The one that doesn't mention it being a limited time event and the absence of it on the UI where limited events always go? Yeah I saw it. Figured it was permanent content added with SoTo. Edit: Unsure why I'm getting the reactions like that. The studio themselves say the bonus events always go on the UI. It's listed in achieves as a bonus event and it's not on my UI. So what exactly is your issue with me taking an issue with it? Curious. Only slightly though.
  23. I wasn't even aware there was an event going on. Is there not supposed to be a notification in the upper right like there was for fractal rush? The studio update states: Yet I have received no information about this event in game at all and once again had to find out from an outside source. Why can't they put relevant information in the game I'm playing. Is that too much of an ask? Now apparently I missed the first week despite spinning my wheels trying to find something to do in game with my wife.
  24. I've played since launch as well. Didn't say it had an impact by itself. It does add up though when you introduce an extra source of experience on top of what was already there was what I was saying. Leveling in gw2 has never been slow but I answered why it was faster now. Everything else is irrelevant to that point.
