  1. Honestly pistol feels really good as a weapon, good damage, cool looking and sounding skills, feels great to use, it's not like Ele Staff where using that feels lame. Makes me think that I'm not sure this was change was needed tbh. It's biggest issue is that it's overshadowed by Shortbow for your 900 range slot with it being flat out best tagging weapon in the game, and now it's gotta compete with rifle with its longer range and similar damage. Pistol is the worst of the power weapons just because the others are that good. I think of they added ricochet back in some way Pistol would be a much better pick, give it an edge when it comes to tagging at the cost of initavie and specing into a skill you might not otherwise spec into. Pistol can't tag as well as shortbow, and rifle can do similar damage to it and has a defensive edge to it with its backwards shadowstep and increased range. If you run Deadeye with rifle you can get insane damage too.
  2. Mouse 1, E, R, C, and Q are my Weaponskills. Mouse 5 is my heal, M4, 1, 2, and Z are my utilities. Class actions are 4, 5, and Shift + E, R, C, Q. Only use Action Cam and Weaponskill 1 defaults to M1, it's comfy and doesn't interfere with anything, and if I need the mouse I can swap to tab target cam. Can't remember why I don't use 3 for anything, iirc it's cause my finger would slip and activate it, I have very, very light keys. As for why I don't use F keys and far off kesy, I don't like using numbers to the far right on my KB as it's too far for my hand to reach and not comfy, so I have everything close to WSAD, My keyboard doesn't have a set of F keys either, and I can't be bothered to look for a BT Keyboard with swappable keys that has them, hair trigger or bust. I'm comfy with this rn anyway.
  3. Me: "What? SotO writing is the best we've had in ages!, what does he mean?" End of the post: Me::"Ohhhhh, now this post makes sense!" Welcome to EoD friend, where the only character I remember is Rama because everyone else is so quippy or faux-witty or doesn't take anything seriously or they're just plain boring.
  4. Typically you should always find a way to fix a feature in a game rather then removing it outright, as removing it is a dev team saying "this is terrible and we don't know what to do, so we're just removing it" , tantamount to the devs saying they F'd up. But how on earth do you even fix Weaponmaster Training training???????????? Look at what it did pre patch, we had classes doing close to 50k when most bosses in this game don't even need 40k. How much is Weaponmaster Training gonna cause nrfs to the whole class, rather then a spec or two? And we all know it's gonna be a massive headache for Anet to properly balance with how many more weapons can be used on new E Specs. Yeah, might be a good idea to just get rid of it, I'm willing to hear reasons as to why it might stay but I can't think of any decent ones beyond it's cool, and yeah it's cool to have more weapons, having your whole class be shafted because of one spec overperforming using another specs weapons isn't cool.
  5. It's only nerfs, I don't think I saw one buff or general adjustment for any class, it's so bizarre as a patch to have nothing but nerfs. I understand lots of stuff was overturned but my god, every class got pure nerfs?
  6. "Oh god, they're gonna hate these patch note's, we've nerfed Ele and Thief again, Necro is doing less then 40k on all of it's specs in our attempt to nerf Shroud, what do we do?" "Let's cut out some of these changes and postpone them til the next patch, we can't afford to delay the patch, the backlash will be bad enough" "No we HAVE to release it! Just don't give them the patch notes pre release like we've done for years, that way that have nothing to whine about!" Right, I should be a little more serious, I don't think them not releasing the patch notes pre release is a good sign, why wouldn't they? The only other reason is that they're still working on it, but you think the patch would be finalised now and they're just bugfixing and optimizing and such, makes me think somethings gone wrong and they're delaying telling us til the last minute. Dark days are ahead of us, I'd prepare for the worst. Or not even, for all I know this could be a great patch, though I doubt it tbh.
  7. Thief can be very defensive, but not in the usual tanking hits way, I once solo'd a camp def in verdant brink as Alac Ritualist Specter It's more based on dodging and stealth, something that OP is looking for. I also don't thnk Thief is in that bad of a sate, Condi Specter is doing 46k, and Condi DD is doing 41k with a simple and easy to understand gameplan. DD can has 3 dodges on any build, and condi DD's Dagger 3 is a dodge that can be spammed, both these let you avoid most damage all together. Deadeye's standing rifle 4 is a cheap and far reaching backwards shadowstep, letting you quickly get out of danger, plus you can shadowstep from kneeling rifle 4 now too. Deadeye has great steath uptime so thanks to the topmost 2nd trait giving you stealth on rifle dodge. You can take Mug and use it to constantly mark mobs in the open world, every time you die they heal. I made a build that even incorporates Mug, gives you perma swiftness, might, and fury in dense packs of mobs with full berserker gear and it's suuuuuuper survivable with great damage. Specter is more about raw HP, it has it's 2nd HP bar to help it survive, and if you're running Ritualist for Alac, you're gonna have tons of vitality to help take hits both in and out of shroud. I've tanked multiple champs in open world with Condi Alac Specter, it's nutty. But about Thief, I think it's a great choice for someone who doesn't prefer a super rigid rotation, Thief is very free flowing with it's initiative since there's no cooldowns on weaponskills. Instead they cost Initiative, Initiative is a recharging resource, a weaponskill might cost 3 Initiative instead of having a CD in another class. There's still rotations, yes, but they're faaaaaaaaaaar less rigid then other classes, it feels amazing. It even has the dodging part OP was looking for. Please consider looking into Thief, OP, it might sound a bit odd or indimitating but once you wrap your head around it it feels amazing. The worst part about Thief is that it doesn't have a proper WvW zerg build, it's only 1200 range weapon is Rifle, and Rifle is very single target focused, but outside of WvW zergs it's viable everywhere with the right build and knowledge.
  8. A year later when people know the fight, and power creep this bad we have classes doing almost 50k, and people are still failing DE's? Glad I avoid the meta, I knew it was bad but didn't think it was so bad a year later people can still fail regularly.
  9. Appears to use the weapon binding for the 2nd place on your weapon hotbar. My 2 skill is bound to E, and my Mount Ability 2, descend for Skyscale and Climb for Griff, is bound to E as well, but with this new ability the Fireball defaults to whatever is in your 2nd weapon skill 2, that being E for myself. I can't use the Fireball cause my Mount Ability 2 is bound to E and it overwrites the Fireball. Weird oversight not including a new Mount Ability 3 for the Fireball, I'd have to rebind my weapon skill 2 to use something for my mount, or rebind my Mount Ability 2 so the FIreball isn't overwritten. Sure I could set a alternative but I'm worried I'd hit the alterative button by accident mid fight and mess up a rotation, I have extremely light keys, and E is a very comfy place for my Griff Dive, I'd rather not change it.
  10. I know this DLC and the changes that came with it has had a few (ok, maybe a little more then a few) bumps in the road, but to Anets defence, didnt they say this is expansion would be smaller then ones prior? It does cost less then EoD and the HoT and PoF pack
  11. I'm glad you're reading the feedback, and hope you take the feedback to heart in regards to Relics and the new dailies. These two have the potential to surpass the old systems, but they could use adjustments and changes. The content in the DLC is fine, it's the systems adjusted in them where I've been seeing most of the feedback. I hope to see change for the better in the future, all the best
  12. Inb4 anyone comes into this thread to say this topic has been discussed and to look it up and bump a thread *ahem*, Now for a proper reply. I don't think locking a new race behind progression is a good idea, let's say Tengu because if a new race is added it's 100% Tengu. it wouldn't feel as organic as starting as level 1, seeing no Tengu's in low level zones, it'd seem weird, they a have a presence in Tyria after all, so the cause is there for them to start at level one. I also think that just sounds kinda lame, what if you're a new player who likes birds and wants to play a Tengu? Only to realize it's locked behind having a max level char? I know it'd kill me inside cause Tengu would be the only race I'd play. And limited armours is a TERRIBLE idea, coming up with transmogs is a huge part of the game, I regularly will go throw pieces of armour in the bank to see if I can come up with something cool, if I wanted to use a piece I knew looked good and would fit in a getup I had in mind, but saw it wasn't available, it'd kill my desire to even play that race. You'd end up with a half baked race, FF14 did it with it's latest two races and back there it was so lame not being able to use helms, they felt again, half baked. I think the best way is to have them start as a regular race at level one, the Dominion of Winds could open as a new zone for them to start in, every armour, nothing half baked, with a complete personal story. Tengu are more prevenient in the new SoTo maps and Cantha so they wouldn't seem too too out of place either. This would be the most accessible and organic start. Also think it'd be a good idea if Anet could somehow figure out race change, I know I'd swap Tengu, if the race is well made people wouldn't have anything (anything reasonable mind you) to complain about, Anet could sell race changes for some Gems, we get a new, polished, well made race, Anet gets more money from gem sales, it'd be a win-win. And also, this is all wishful thinking, a new race and a race change, I doubt it'll ever happen for either of them. Coming up with a new polished and complete race that isn't half baked would be a huge undertaking, even if Tengu already has some ground work done for it because of NPC's, imagine re fitting all the armours to Tengus, good god that'd probably take forever. People say race change is impossible and I'm not be living that til a dev says so, and again, what's stopping someone from figuring it out at Anet? Though even if's technically not impossible, I doubt it'll happened, it'd probably be a lot of work. TL:DR is we're probably not getting a new race, but if we did it'd be best to implement it like the original races.
  13. People are complaining cause they tried to fix things that aren't broken and we ended up with something worse then before. The new Dailies have a nice shop that allows you to earn items you normally can only get with gems, but is flawed in that you have a limited selection of 4 required tasks, before you had a choice of just doing one, two, or all three game modes for your daily, now you have to chose from doing just one, just two, or just three, you can still mix and match what you wanna do, but it's far more limited, you went from 9 tasks in all 3 modes total, to 4 overall, it removes agency on behalf of the player and people don't like that. You also cannot do dailies with others anymore, as they are randomized, gone are the days of having a laugh watching you and others try and fail at a jumping puzzle for the daily. Relics don't seem like a very good replacement for Tier 6 runes, instead of turning the Tier 6 runes into Relics so you could mix and match better, they now have new, more situational ones, Torment on dodge, using a healing skill grants bonuses, the pet runes are dead with no replacement. Again, this is taking away something from players they've had for years without a adequate replacement. There's good things in the DLC too mind you, weapon master training will be interesting, I main Thief and I'm thinking of trying power Staff Specter and see how it works, new masteries are nice QoL for flyers. The new map is pretty, but I'm concerned the new story is gonna end up being crap, (can't be much worse then IBS tbh). It's Anet taking things away that's what's getting to people, sure EoD isn't the best DLC and people rightfully did complain about it too, but iirc, it didn't take anything away, we just got new things, I use the Jade Bot Glide Booster every play session. EoD didn't take away features from the game that's been there for years and replace them with a half baked version.
  14. Y'know I wasn't so put off by the new dallies initially, but good god now that I've had time to think and play I realize that I loath them. The old ones gave you choice, it was nice when I wanted to play WvW one day and in the middle of my WvW session I randomly got 2 gold., or maybe I do PvP and get lucky and manage them in one game, dailies were a big part of why I played PvP. And it was nice when I was actively working towards them too, back when they where shared and there was a jumping puzzle one, I'd try it and it was fun and memorable to see me and others failing and moaing in chat only to then complete the puzzle, or be bailed out by a Mesmer, lol. It makes me upset thinking that I'll never get to see people do a jumping puzzle together for the daily. Instead we get the most silly tasks, and you HAVE to chose, you don't have a choice of gamemode, I enjoy PvP, WvW, and Open World, but some days I wanna do one, two, or all three. Why would I have to choose from doing one, two or three? What was wrong with having the choice of doing the daillies in one game mode or a combo of them? Because we get this Gem Store Lite Version? C'mon, it's lame. This patch has me really bummed, I just returned from a year long break of consistent play and I gotta deal with Runes being gutted of abilites and the crappy new daily system, the new masteries are cool for flyers but I only care about Griff, guess its good for Skyscale folks. For me it feels like I've returned home after a long trip only to slapped and spit in face. I'm taking a break, again, this patch has made me sad and I'm hoping in a week or two thing's have changed or I'm feeling better. If thing's don't I might just quit. TL:DR: New dallies feel too restrictive and takes both the fun and convenience out of them, Rune changes aren't helping.
  15. I was expecting the DLC to add onto the game, add new features, and it did with the new masteries and weapon master training. But what I didn't expect is Anet changing Runes and Dailes that have been around for years, it feels as if a part of the game as been ripped away from us by force. It doesnt even feel like a rework it feels almost like a downgrade, maybe I'm being melodramatic but the rune and daily changes really rub me the wrong way.
  16. The rewards are nice, I can see them adding a lot of nice stuff that would usually be only bought with gems. But yeeeeeeeeeeeah, it seems like it's almost overcomplicating things for less reward, complete a renown heart and dodge some attacks for the privilege to get the two gold you got before? That could be got in one single game of PvP if you were lucky? Can't even choose dailies like you could before, you could do PvP, WvW, PvE or a combo of all 3, you'd think they'd give you more options then just 4. I woulda preferred if they kept dailies in some way, maybe reduce the gold to one and reward some acclaim, keep the new wizards vault for extra rewards. Idk, just throwing stuff out there
  17. Popped into the Ele forums to see how Anet managed to screw Ele up this time see whats being discussed, just came back from a loooooooooooooooooooong break so I'm a bit outta the loop, I didnt read much on the weapons being added in the DLC or the changes from the July patch. Saw the title and my jaw almost dropped, they give the closest thing this game has to a traditional mage a gun, not a Longbow for another 1200 range weapon after getting two melee weapons for two expacs in a row, they give Ele a 900 range Pistol. Ele mains, I understand, and I am sorry Signed, a Thief main
  18. I get what you're saying, and it seems to me that the game is just losing its luster to you, between legenderies and awful balancing, to terrible and vile people who play endgame hard mode PvE, nothing seems to help. What do I say? I think it might just be time to take a break from GW2, maybe for a week or two, maybe for a month, maybe for months and months, or forever, and look for other games or other hobbies to engage in. MMO's have a tendency to get dull if you play them all the time, even without other issues, sucks the fun outta them. What's worse, GW2 hasn't been going along a good path lately, between trash balancing and lackluster content updates, it's starting to get a bit old. Me personally I can't even bring myself to play more then a hour or two much anymore, partially cause I've done most of the content I care to do, partially cause of lackluster updates. There's a overwhelming amount of boring 5/10 games out there but if you dig down far enough through the sea of dirt and muck you'll be able to find games you enjoy. And if video games are losing their flair to you, there's always other hobbies, could pick up reading as a example. Could try another MMO too, I've been thinking of picking another one up to fill the void left by GW2 and FF14 though none of the super uber popular ones interest me.
  19. Less the changes themselves, and moreso people know nothing will change, in the three months you mentioned, they'll shift around stats and skills without changing or improving anything meaningful, or the changes will be flat out for the worst, there's no in between. It's debilitating, tiring, I haven't played in months cause I read the patch notes and the changes look so just meh
  20. Quality thread, I didn't know a lot of these sites and youtubers and quite a few look useful, def bookmarking this
  21. I made a reply to a post like this a while back, but the TL DR is that Deadeye can be very effective in open world, like, perma 25 might and swiftness good. Gonna post my reply from before verbatim below: Deadeye for general open world with lots of mobs, but DD works too TL:DR: Here is a link to my own Deadeye open world build, it is best suited for lots of mobs rather then bosses, perma quick uptime depending on the amount of mobs. Why Deadeye for open world? Be Quick or Be Killed is why, grants you quickness for 4 seconds when you steal, AND +200 extra power while under quickness. If you're in open world killing and stealing from lots of mobs, you're gonna have perma quickness uptime with no concentration, and 25 might, and fury, and vigor, and swiftness, and have a insta recharging daze on kill, you'll also gain initiative on steal too, steal has 1500 range on Deadeye too btw, oh and this is without allies too btw, but you'll be able to share everything but the quickness with them too cause lol. How you ask? Purely with Deadeyes traits on full 'zerker, no sigils or runes required. Here is a link to my build that lets you accomplish this. This build relies on trickery and mostly camps rifle, you're looking for perma boons rather then building up and spending malice, I also bring a Shortbow for when rifle doesnt cut it for tagging. I take deadly arts over the meta critical strikes for Mug, Mug gives you loads of HP if you're able to mark lots of mobs, and it does decent damage too, around 4k ish on the setup listed, kept me alive in HoT maps easily, but if you wanna stick with Deadly Arts you might be able to get away with Dagger Training for a little bit more power at the cost of some sustain. I could see this build working with critical strikes over deadly arts, but you still manage insane damage in dense packs of mobs with deadly arts, Trickery is used to augment Deadeyes Mark, Bottom - Top - Middle like a lot of power Trickery builds. Mark recharges when your marked target dies and applies the boons on initial steal, so if you're in a meta constantly marking mobs you'll have perma steal boons and quick, plus a daze and more initiative, the more initiative from steal lets you spam weapon skills cause you can potetially never run out of initiative. In Deadeye I take Burst of Shadows over the usual Malicious Intent, mobs are gonna die stupid quick with this build so a lot of times you won't be able to spend the malice on stealth attacks, Silent Scope gives you 100% crit chance thanks to it and perma fury, and Be Quick or Be Killed gives you and you only perma quickness in dense packs of mobs. Now I'm embellishing this build a lot, and while it works very, very bloody well in packs of mobs in open world, it's not as great in places where's there's not many mobs, think bosses, bounties, etc, you won't have perma boons cause you won't be able to constantly mark targets, just the one boss, and you'll usually be able to have perma fury and might from allies anyway. I usually swap off to Malicious Intent and Maleficent Seven as those traits are better suited for bosses, so if you do decide to give this build a try pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease keep this in mind when facing bosses.
  22. They just want you to know about the awesome deals you can score with this Limited-Time Opportunity with the Black Lion Company[TM]
  23. Good-ish patch, it's not super substantial but the nerfs aren't overbearing My biggest gripe is Swipe going away, it being unblockable was a nice little bonus, it didn't matter if was 900 range cause DD is a close range class, I doubt it will effect PvE much but it might be a bit of a issue in PvP, Deadeye is the spec that gets all the complaints in PvP too so not sure why DD got Swipe removed. Other then that DD got good changes, the lower CD's are nice. Deadeye changes are good, more damage is always a nice thing, kinda sucks rifle didn't get piercing though, would rather get piercing over more damage tbh. Can't comment on Shadow Meld in PvP but I suspect Deadeye will still be viable, rifle 4 is nuts for mobility and that's on top of always having Shadowstep. Specter is just ok, Septer 2 is still never gonna be used 90% for might of all things, you can ge and share a good amount of might thanks to Siphons low CD mixed with Thrill of The Crime, well changes are meh too. Shame Specter still has reduced initiative and rifle didn't get piercing, would also be nice if Anet addressed Thief's lack of a good WvW zerg build, maybe by adding back Ricochet or giving rifle piercing, could even be something else 1200 range.
  24. This honestly. I wasn't here for Ricochet but when I looked it up on the wiki it looked SOOOOOOOO much better then the pistol trait we have now, more range and tagging potential. Deadly aim helps with tagging but it's not great, ricochet sounds like it'd be SOOOOOOO much better for tagging, esspec with duel pistols, hell, if they brought it back and kept the range increase, it might even allow Thief to have a decent WvW zerg build thanks to the 1050 range, and rn, Thief is by far the worst class in WvW zergs.
