  1. I've never heard this? You always hear about how Guild Wars 2 's endgame IS fashion. Taste is purely subjective. There are a lot of looks I don't like, but some show off accomplishment or wealth, some are intentionally meant to humiliate opponents (my pvp exclusive friend told me this.) some people are actually colorblind physically, some people are not interested in the fashion at all. For me, fashion is what keeps me playing the game. I sometimes change my favorite character's looks every few weeks. Some pieces tell a story about who my character is, some are to obfuscate their profession/specialization (one of my necros gets mistaken for a ranger for example) and some are just because I really liked a skin, and I made a look (or character!) around them. I think the new inspect feature will be a great opportunity for folks and it might bring them back to older content to unlock skins. I'm kind of excited that people will see my character 's armor is not just dyed white but 3 different shades of it! lol! jk jk
  2. I started on it, got distracted with the new skyscale skin - was very satisfying to get the raw chicken mount! As for the legendary armor I got caught on the research notes; a system I deeply hate even though I understand it's value to the overall game's economy. The conundrum is: do I use my rare crafting materials to make a higher tier item to destroy for research even though I need those materials for the legendary item? It made me lose interest relatively quickly. I went back to playing personal story - also I got my second ever legendary precursor to drop in the 11 years I've been playing! ...and then there's the precursors I purchased from the Wizard vault. Anyway I've been looking in to WvW. (I'm sort of joking. I play WvW for transmutes lol! )
  3. I didn't want to choose "forget it" but in terms of work involved to re-implement it, it seems overwhelming. As it stands, it's just a bit of flavor. The original development team was deeply ambitious: they wanted your choices to have impact on your character and the world around you but it seems it is just too difficult to implement and maintain through the years. I feel that the original intent was to give players certain dialogue or action options exclusive to their character personality choices, and then have npcs react a certain way to them based on the personality results. (A charming character might get a more helpful response from a certain NPC than a dignified character would ) Your personality would eventually change depending on which dialogue you chose in your personal story/interactions with npcs. (if you were normally dignified but chose charming responses, your character would eventually become charming. ) There is still evidence of this in various parts of the world when you choose certain options. Ultimately it didn't culminate in to anything but I think it still adds flavor here and there.
  4. Yes, and with almost 30 alts, believe me when I say I do use it on my necromancers. However, I feel staff is like one of those weapons that is intrinsic to the elementalist theme and yet here we are.
  5. After a lot of fiddling with builds and selling my mystic coins for gold so I can buy runes and sigils to test them out - I've come to the conclusion it's just not good. Nevermore was my second legendary I ever made. It was the first Legendary I knew right away who I wanted it for. I love the skin so much. I loved the lore about it when I was building it. I made it for my elementalist specifically. She's a norn who considers the Raven spirit her patron spirit. That's why it was important to me. It still performs well for a WvW zerg following healer, but I rarely Wvw. I'm a pve player. I'm just left kind of heart broken. But thank you all very much for the input.
  6. At this rate the developers should take some time to really get down what they want from this class because from a non golem-attacker, just regular casual person I don't know. They make them squishy, but give them melee weapons, give them multiple elements but only make 1 do the most damage, give you the impression conditions should be their strength but then take it away... What are they going for?
  7. The options are so limited for staff which is arguably something an Elementalist would consider a main weapon. I looked up a heal-alac tempest build and it uses dagger/warhorn. Taking staff would dramatically reduce it's effectiveness, but I can try it. If any mavericks want to throw me their build ideas, feel free!
  8. I'm sorry if this is the wrong section. I originally had a great tempest staff build before the recent patches for pve. Now I am not sure - but I went through a lot of trouble to make Nevermore specifically for my ele. Are there any decent pve builds that use staff? It doesn't have to be "meta" - I don't plan to do raids/fractals with it.
  9. Is it really gambling still if you're guaranteed to get the item you want with black lion statuettes eventually? It's more of an investment now.
  10. These are actually really great suggestions, and I agree, especially when the achievement was particularly difficult. It is odd Ambrite weapons don't have a title but Machined Weapons do.
  11. I have not played Palworld but watched enough positive and negative reviews and play through of it to be able to answer this. Does Guild Wars 2 need some revitalization? Yes. Do you really want it to be like other games not even related to the genre? No.
  12. My theory is that the Commander is in a mind scape. He shares a deep connection with Aurene. Aurene is currently sleeping, perhaps dreaming. So the possibility is that she may be dreaming with the Commander, helping them undo the riddle happening in their mind. I am also taking the kitten because I find the current story so out of left field I am hoping there's a cooler explanation. So far no one else likes my theory lol!
  13. Maybe she is really Aurene, trying to save us from ourselves because we're trapped in our own minds.
  14. A wild theory but Peitha could be Aurene, ultimately trying to help us find a way out of our trauma riddled minds after we, as the Commander have faced elder dragons and gods, death and the Mists. The enemies we face, and friends we make in the SoTo story may just be abstract metaphors for aspects of ourselves or people we have admired. These characters may be using "saving Tyria" as a way to frame saving ourselves, because it's possible we wouldn't be able to comprehend, let alone handle the fact that we may be locked in our own minds. Ultimately, when this is over, the commander may wake up...and Guild Wars 3 will be announced as Arenanet decides to take the story to the stars, to find where the Tyrian Gods have gone.
  15. People have asked for more gender neutral options for female characters, or more gender specific options for female charr and asura specifically. Wanting female coded armor for male bodies, or in the very least more feminine options for male bodies would be interesting and equally fair. The other option is to make all face/hair/marking/ear options available to both genders. Currently, there are people playing a gender type they don't actually want to play simply because they prefer the face/marking/ears of another gender. It's an opportunity to add something to the makeover kit without actually adding anything new. Actually I like my idea a lot more. I'd love more face and hair options - or more ear options for asura. Ears with jewelry, or torn female ears? Options are always good when it comes to personalizing a character! The hair though? That's going to create a lot of clipping issues and people hate that.
  16. I kind of see what you're saying though. I think it would be interesting to have a villain you can't understand or talk with, a villain whose mind and motivations are entirely alien to our own. You would think from looking at the Kryptis they would be like that. I feel like the writers missed an opportunity. I understand though that they wanted us to view the Kryptis as thinking, feeling beings so that we would feel compelled to work with them despite their horrific appearances. I want to argue that having villains with discernable motivations we can relate to make them more engaging but I have to be honest, I am just not very engaged by the current story arc as a whole. They introduced this arc by saying it would be darker than what was released before - but arguably the darkest chapter had to be the ones involving Jormag where we witness the proud Kodan , norn, and whole organized parties of good and gentle people be manipulated through dark whispers in to killing themselves or murdering their companions. The atmosphere of the chapters were palpably oppressive. The current chapter does not engage me in any way remotely like that. They've stripped my character of their rank and value and turned them in to just another soldier in Peitha's crusade. What is the "wayfinder"? My character seems to have no reaction to anything happening any more and is just along for the ride. As an aside and not really related but : Joko is a character who survived from Guild Wars 1; comedy has always been one of his major aspects. He was a fabled feared lich, but when we meet him in Guild Wars 1, he is hilarious, and not at all frightening. In Guild Wars 2, the writers show what he really was capable of. His demise is anti-climatic but he is loved by the community because he combined comedy and cunning but actually proved he was a terrifying threat. He was great. Praise Joko.
  17. I managed to solve this problem by replacing a bad hard drive, and upgrading from 8gb of RAM to 32gb of RAM which is the maximum my current computer can have. I haven't had any loading issues since and it's been a couple of months.
  18. Your name is reserved for you for 24 hours after deleting a character. Just write down your choices so when you remake the character, you can choose the same ones, or something slightly different. Changes around earning keys were made by Arenanet intentionally to combat key farming because Black Lion Keys is a part of their way of making revenue in the cash shop. You can still do all the testing you want by deleting and then remaking a character. The only valid idea /point you have is MAYBE the part about saving your character's first made date for anniversary rewards. Some people have wanted Arenanet to use your account creation date instead of character creation date for this but ultimately that screws over people who enjoy the rewards being per character. ~*~ Your work around: You start out with 5 character slots. Keep your first character. Remake your second character as much as you want using your first character's choices. Buy character slots. The game incentivizes and rewards the creation of alternate characters. Take advantage of that.
  19. Short answer: Yes, you ABSOLUTELY can play and enjoy the game without playing through the story for the most part. I have a friend who exclusively plays wvw and has a profound hatred of pve. So - it definitely is possible to play and still enjoy the game without doing the story! However: Certain rewards and unlocking certain things are directly linked with playing through the story. Also whether we like it or not, the story helps give context for what is happening in each chapter. Playing through the story at least once is probably a good idea.
  20. I love this concept so much. We lightly touch on what asura have done in the various chapters; usually to show off their folly, use their technology for convenience, or use them as a plot device to advance the story. We're rarely taken deeper in to who they are as a people. Thank you for putting so much hard work in to this.
  21. You can still see what's happening by adjusting your field of view. I have always used Adjust camera to height and have never noticed anything more than actually being able to see my character better. I'm an asura main but my second main is a max height norn. Although it's been so long, maybe I am just used to it.
  22. I've done two of these so far, both were public. we failed that one because it wasn't dropping essences. The experience was alright, a little laggy but its relatively easy to understand. Not bad.
  23. Computers that can run GW2 are relatively affordable now but "affordable" is different for different people, especially today. My own computer is 14 years old with parts salvaged from my friend's computer for upgrades. It's on the last upgrade it can ever have but it's been worth the investment. I don't need anything better yet because I literally just use my computer to play Gw2 and watch Youtube and occasionally stream. You can purchase computers on payment plans. My first computer was a Del, and it took 2 years to pay off but it had been , at the time, very much worth it.
  24. On one hand letting older maps have better loot incentivizes people to return to them. They've replaced regular loot with unique currency drops for newer maps so you can build better rewards. On the other hand, by doing this, they give no incentive to stay on newer maps once you're finished building whatever carrot they've got you chasing. Did SotO flop though? I think it is successful for what it is. I think the story and some features are where it fails. The drops on the maps are honestly something I never considered although I have felt the rewards for rifts felt low, but again I think they wanted us to focus on Kryptis essences instead of regular loot. I've returned to Drizzlewood for my farming needs lol!
