how many malicious spies do you think are out there? in my twelve years of playing wvw i've never really seen more than a handful of players actively trying to 'spy' for their server by playing on the enemy server. now that it's nearly impossible to do since world restructuring, it makes me wonder what you're coming into contact with as far as spying. i've also seen people say 'lol it's a spy' in team chat more than once because some pleb pulled a tactivator by accident.

the last time i used harrowing storm it did in fact heal upon use. though i can only speak for the wvw game mode.

what a strange video. what got me was when he tried ccing the thief and complained about the fact that the thief dodged. timing has been my biggest challenge in the game so far so props to the thief player who was able to time the dodge perfectly.

you'd have to get a LOT of thieves together to pull this off. and at that point you may as well just organize a comp'd squad to beat the boon ball. though your idea makes me wish thief had a boon corrupt skill. actually i want thief to have a lot of things. that it'll never get.

so far thief has a mediocre heal kit with decent stability uptime. i'd like to see focus offhand that could give more boon support instead of heals to maybe pair with specter or quickness deadeye.
if thief had more access to protection or heal per block like warrior's bullet catcher in the form of a shield or focus offhand, it might be a little easier to be supportive and thus be taken in a group in all kinds of content.
what i want for a focus offhand: a block like guardian's focus that pulses heals per successful block which could be detonated for a burst heal. also maybe have a ground targeted skill that pulses protection and quickness on the focus kit. as for the dual wield skill (with scepter), it could be like protector's strike, and activating the skill would form a protective bubble around allies to absorb the next incoming attack, which would then grant boons and a small amount of healing.
i think if thief had more access to boon support people might start taking it in group content. so far my favorite playstyle has been support thief, which sadly is lacking what it truly needs to be taken 'seriously' as a potential spot in a comped squad, even if it's a smaller squad. some more useful defensive boons on a successful steal would also be nice, such as protection, regeneration, resolution, maybe even stability. giving thief the ability to generate stability through more than just one source might give the class what it truly needs to be part of a group instead of just being the designated ganker.
i just want my main class to shine in more than just ganking.

it might help if you link the build you're describing, but i think power spear will go best with critical strikes or acrobatics. at least that's what i'll be running. that condi cleanse on dodge is just too important. Then again i use it for wvw, you can probably be a bit more liberal with your build in pve.
you could also do a celestial build for spear, i've tested it and it works pretty well. this will work especially well with specter in pve, as it's a hybrid damage spec. if you like i can come up with a build specifically for spear specter and link it here for you.

preparations should be traps. that are on the ground. and were better by far.

turns out that's my gripe with the weapon. nearly impossible to land anything.
has anyone noticed if swindler's equilibrium works with spear? i've heard it doesn't.

the grandmaster traits offer nothing to support specter as well. Since it's next to impossible to get into stealth using scepter/pistol (specter's support kit) and wells (a must if you're going support), the grand master traits of shadow arts offer nothing. I literally picked one at random. maybe make the wells grant stealth? they're on high enough of a cooldown where i don't think it'd be over powered. it might also give thief a spot in the meta in WvW. look at me wanting things.

i think the spear needs more than one gap closer. mantis strike chain is incredibly hard to land, as some have already said, which is a shame because it deals solid damage.

well i can say i'm not overly hyped for spear considering how complicated it looks. but i'll give it a try.

yep...best bet is to play heal specter and hope someone realizes how useful you are.

thief's biggest problem with doing frontline damage is that it's too squishy to take any hits, unlike a warrior or something. maybe if there's some sort of intense barrier generation? in my experience jumping into the middle of an enemy group is insta-death, evade frames notwithstanding.

hopefully it won't be some kind of afterthought. hopefully they also let us play with it before release, it might need a beta.

do you think spears(land spears) will work with this trait on release?

i just hope spear comes out on release day for the expansion. it was terrible waiting six months for axe.

i do wish the staff marks did a bit more damage, not sure how much more they should do though.

i don't think i could live without the condi cleanse grandmaster trait now that i've been using it for so long. otherwise i'd be all for something like this.

it still hits really hard, but it's a shame i can't hit people on walls anymore.

axe/pistol got totally gutted. 33%---> 7%. that's a huge nerf. starting to wonder what's going on.
