The way i look at the lockout is with the lower INI you can get more of these off dirt cheap. What I was finding is even if I could get two off after a shadowstrike , the second would very often not happen due to INI being burned. I prefer the longer lockout :) Fair enough. I do this this makes double Repeater an option. I just wish the lockout time was 3 seconds (still long enough for queuing double Repeater) so I can kite better against enemies with multiple gap closers.
-
I’m happy Repeater is now cheaper but I still don’t like the lockout time on Shadowstrike. I do like the attempt to balance out elite specializations. Daredevil becoming less mobile by cutting down Steal distance is rough but we will see how it ends up with everything else.

S/D Thief is doing pretty well comparatively due to the unblockables and mobility of the set. Outside of that stealth based builds have been suffering due to higher anti-stealth potential on a number of professions. Melee thief’s suffer if they don’t use a lot of evades to counter the high AoE damage spam. Ranged builds suffer from anti-projectile issues. This is made worse by the fact that most ranged skills outside rifle don’t hit that hard and can be reflected or obstructed or may not even hit the target at certain ranges. Overall, what thief needs buffed is sustain rather than damage. Unless other professions get nerfed the “if you can’t beat them join them” comes to mind. To do that we need to have preparedness made baseline. We need to have certain heals buffed. We need to make a few more of our attacks apply weakness. We could also use unblockable on a few ranged attacks so we can mitigate the proliferation of anti-projectile abilities and bugs. Maybe Dancing Dagger could use some love?

how would that even work? the only purpose of resistance is to negate effect of condition, every condition. so that also includes your new one. if a condition bypasses resistance then resistance lost it's value Resistance would nullify it. But if no resistance it would temporarily nullify the effects of all their boons.
-
How about a new condition effect that makes boons ineffective for X seconds (anti boon version of resistance). Make Rending Shade apply five seconds of anti-boon while still stealing the same number of boons.

This is what I was afraid of.... I've tried condi and power spike, both with plenty of boonsteal and CC, and both seem to get shrugged off pretty easily. I was hoping there was a weakness I'd missed, but the build seems pretty solid. I take Binding Shadow and Rending Shade. Even then it is a challenge but you can usually do a plus 1 or force them to retreat if you play carefully. Yeah, I did this in a camp last night, was fighting the guy for close to 10 mins. I could stop him from ressing the camp supervisor as if he didn't react he would have died, and got him to 15-20% health on a spike a few times, but he could pretty much just heal up straight after. Eventually two more guys from my server joined, I spiked him to 20% and he couldn't recover with three people hitting him, but still, not easy. I’ll note that I’ve been running a riskier version of my build which adds Shadow Gust in. If you do it right then the extra knockback can be used to interrupt them and make a kill.

Joking aside, I’ve actually played with and against several of these people so the list isn’t terrible. I’m not sure who some people are but that happens. -

Koto plays? I thought he just oneshot random people in arena for lols. -
I'll comment as a non-perma stealth thief who actually likes the idea of getting rid of perma stealth.I like the concept of being marked and revealed if you stay in stealth too long. "Too long" means different things to different people. I think that a person should have four or five seconds to attack or be revealed under the new mechanic. That lets them use a single stealth combo or a longer stealth ability but doesn't result in perma stealth. The two second "I need to use an ability now or waste my stealth" (as a thief using stealth attacks) feels too short to be reasonable when combined with anti-stealth abilities on other professions. An example is Holo. When faced with an anti-stealth build who defends an allied sentry point there is almost no point in trying to fight the holo while marked is active. You need to defend against the Holo mobility/dps and reveal while also trying to not be auto revealed. TLDR: Increase the time before being forcibly revealed to four seconds. You don't need less than that to fight perma-stealth abuse.

You can also in a non Deadeye build use D/P and leap finisher combos to achieve the same effect for more effort. The Daredevil can use a bounding dodge in smoke fields to gain stealth so you can be fairly invisible that way. A core thief will take the most effort but still possible a few different ways. Same combo requirements but might need a few utilities. Blinding Powder is a blast finisher and in smoke field that will give a lot of stealth before you even leap combo.
-
If you need to pick a utility to compete then you need to pick it. A dead player does no damage. If you need something to compete you should take it. Unless countering thief isn’t necessary to your success rate. In that case feel free to drop the anti-stealth traits and utilities. But don’t complain. You picked versatility over specialization when you didn’t think it was important enough to build for. It’s like being on a melee only build and complaining that a Ranger kited you to death.
-
Or you can swap a utility or two specifically to clear out a keep or tower. You know, because you can leave the tower and the DE can’t without losing opportunity to take the tower. Swap back when you finish. For that matter, bring a couple of revive traits/utilities and power resurrect the lord while one or two other stand guard. Set up healing around lord along with stealth to prevent the DE from targeting the lord. Or set up a reflect rotation around the lord with additional traps. Basically, you need only one or two other players to help lock down the lord. Area control abilities and support will prevent most issues as long as you play it smart. Your entire Zerg is a bad idea. Players get careless and those left behind are easily ganked. A coordinated team of Druid/Ranger, DH/FB and Scrapper should be more than enough to handle a few DE.

Soft CCs and Expertise need to be unlinked
saerni.2584 replied to Hot Boy.7138's topic in Player vs. Player
I’d prefer a power - Expertise amulet over some change that makes the system less intuitive. Having soft cc power support builds would be interesting. But I wonder how many would sacrifice a damage stat for duration. -
[Suggestion] Balancing Condition Damage
saerni.2584 replied to Redponey.8352's topic in World vs. World
Why the same people continue to post the same debunked ideas year after year boggles the mind. If condition damage is uniquely mitigated by cleanse and resistance, and power damage by toughness and protection/weakness then adding condition damage reduction to toughness makes removal of cleanse necessary. You can’t just pretend toughness unfairly ignores condition damage without admitting cleanse is also one-sided mitigation going the other way. This is a big change to force on a game that lacks the development resources to reinvent a core gameplay mechanic just to satisfy a vocal minority of players who refuse to accept that cleanse is powerful mitigation. Complaining about reapplication is a complaint against scourge/Mesmer/profession specifically and not a reason to implement poorly thought out changes to the game design. Or, strangely, it comes from the expectation that multiple people landing their skills shouldn’t kill you. I’m sorry, but there is no reasonable expectation that three scourges/etc, even if nerfed to be underpowered, shouldn’t be able to kill you if their skills land. My point is 1) complaints against condition damage are often exaggerated or based on demonstrably false claims, 2) “solutions” to condition damage are either calls to completely remove core game mechanics or redesign so much of the game as to be impractical. -
The patch won’t make thief unviable. A shave in spike damage was inevitable with a reduction in sustain. You have to judge the patch holistically. There’s too many nerfs to other classes for us to complain.
-
I’ve seen less “two thieves please swap or gg” lately. Thief can contribute to killing some hard points (FB support and Scourge) so having a good thief will usually contribute something towards that part of the team fight. Decap is less part of the game because other classes have decent mobility and I’m not sure having a pure decap and +1 build is the best route now. You need at least some team fighting traits/skills focused around boonhate to tip the team fights.
-
I like the proposed changes and look forward to them being implemented.
