I find this hard to believe. Not because I think you arent telling the truth. Because every night for a week I pugged that thing by tagging up and taking the first random group of 9 people on my LFG that said "NEWBIES WELCOME".Not once did I see a single fail or even struggle.I realize the forums at the time painted a different picture, but I figured that those were just memes to support arguments being made to nerf it.Anyways... things I've learned...shrugsLet's not derail this thread with talk about a different event though, I suppose.

This game, on the other hand identified a problem with a collection that it's highest paying customers were impacted by (the new BL weapon skins collection) and had it patched less than ten hours later.... in a way that resulted in just about no real interference with the service other than a hiccup with teaming for a few minutes. And the OP wants to cry foul. That's the GW2 community for you.

I think the festivals are a perfect place to get people used to a higher participation threshold. They are the events that are highly trafficked by exactly this kind of player. As we can see in this thread, the general populace believes they are entitled to a high reward level during these events for minimal contribution.Your post itself highlights this attitude with the typical "it should just be easy non-stressful fun" rhetoric. The fact that the game coddles the player during these events is no different than when it does so during the personal story. These are the places where players get an inflated impression of their own abilities and end up coming onto the forums with posts like the OP, claiming "bad design" rather than doing a solid gut check and finding ways to contribute at a higher level. PS: Freezie as "challenging content"?Come on now...

I'm going to fall on the other side of this one. I feel the current participation system could stand to be tightened up even more than it is. I feel there is a significant portion of this game's player base that feels just showing up is enough to be rewarded. There are a lot of players at big meta events who walk around clueless, doing negligible damage, eat every mechanic and then get rewarded at the same level as those who carry the encounters.Nothing would light a fire under these people to improve like less loot. As it stands now, the system over- rewards players for autoattacking and demanding rezes.Showing these players that it is more rewarding when they actively and positively impact the encounter would be healthy for the game. I sincerely hope that is what Arenanet is doing here.

Add a Dragon Pinata in Home Instance
mindcircus.1506 replied to Alice.4215's topic in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
In the past 6 months I have seen this community ask for hundreds if not thousands of things. This is one of only 2 or 3 good ideas. -
Guild Wars 2 is one of the few MMORPGs that doesn't go down for several hours at a time every week or two for regularly scheduled maintenance. Most MMOs when a large expansion or content drop is delivered go down for a half day or more. When PoF launched, I had to restart. My downtime was probably about 7 minutes. From a service delivery standpoint, this product is a real cut above.I suggest that if a few minutes of downtime to ensure that the people you game with are patched somehow "wreaks havoc" on your activities, that you may be a little too sensitive to cope with the realities of the genre. It really isn't a big deal.

Should the Skyscale map currency be reduced?

There's already a merged thread for this feedback.Your thread is the same thing that's been posted before. It offers nothing new. -
So... remove the skill requirement and leave the gold rewards and just "throw a few regular ascended drops in there every once in a while".I'm sorry just what else do you think drops in raids?

It might seem like it's dwindling, but we are actually just getting ready for alliances!! I can't wait! But you will have to.

Joke all you want but that doesn't negate the fact that they are going to sell a LOT of R.Pi 4s. They say this every revision. Every revision they sell a new copy to every egghead and tweaker who bought the last version. They are poor consumer entertainment devices, suitable only for dedicated tinkerers who do not value their own time.

The twelve hobbyists running these things would thank you, Arenanet.

I will never understand the need for the WvW community to gatekeep against half of it's own dwindling population.

ANET: Please rework Necromancer offhands.

I was expecting to come into this thread and find a bunch of overpowered suggestions from people who want an already strong class to be further buffed. I was not disappointed. -
If there are no rewards people will not do it.

Should Guild Wars 1 go free to play?
mindcircus.1506 replied to The Ace.9105's topic in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
I wonder, when I see posts like these, just how much work do you think it takes to take a game, particularly a b2p game like GW was and completely change it's business model? Do you think they just flip a switch and make it free? It's a very time consuming process that involves pretty deep changes to a game.An old game that barely anyone plays. A game that wouldn't see a significant population bump just because it's free due mainly to it's dated graphics, lack of voice acting and relatively punishing old school design. One people would mainly just farm for a few armor skins and a couple of ranger pets.Do you really think this is a good idea?As it is, I've seen it on sale several times over the past year on steam, all-in for 30 bucks. You have to admit that's a pretty good deal. -
This new outfit should be new legendary armor
mindcircus.1506 replied to Ragnarox.9601's topic in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
Or, even better, the game could just mail you a set of legendary PVE armor upon reaching lvl 80. Maximum convenience! I would like to see a leggo armor set outside of those also. The way i see it they have legendary armor to cover the end game of raiding and pvp/wvw but no legendary armor to cover the story?WvW, PvP and PvE. Those are the three game modes. PvE already has a legendary set. You do PvE encounters called raids to get. I have an idea, how about in S5 they make these hard achievements as you progress in story mode as you close out a episode if you have completed all the achievements it rewards a part of the legendary set. So like the first episode set could reward the helm, the second the shoulders etc. I think its a good way to add legendary armor in for the legendary story. I mean it makes sense since the game revolves around these stories. If you think the time investment and effort for getting the existing sets is in line with completing the story you are badly mistaken.Your suggestion is pretty ridiculous. -
Hearts and Minds: Awful, buggy, and just awful
mindcircus.1506 replied to paynesgrey.8932's topic in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
If you used a less salty tone you might find people willing to offer you proper advice. I don't get salty at individuals until I receive "Git gud! Lrn SkLz!" I reserve the right to be as salty as I please in regards bugs or aggravating features. This opening is basically a rant about the specific mission, the design of which is aggravating, and that aggravation being pushed over the top by some actual bugs. Which would be true if it were not for the tone of your very first post.Controlling your emotional reaction and asking for pointed advice in your original post would likely have not lead to the "L2P" comments you have been getting.Hearts and Minds is a hard and long mission. It's one of the three most complained about encounters in Guild Wars 2. I've seen dozens of threads just like yours over the past three years. The ones that use your original tone tend to be greeted with the same "git gud" comments you are upset about. You know which ones didn't get that reaction? The ones that sounded like "this mission is kicking my tail, am I doing something wrong?"Instead you unleashed a tirade complete with consumer outrage. What you are calling a "bug" (Garm's health restoring) is part of the encounter's mechanics. Anyways... just something to keep in mind. Try what they other people posted. Give us an idea about what kind of gear/stats you are using. The encounter is certainly beatable and soloable on a Berserker.Just remember you catch more flies with honey. Honestly, I'd have started with "It's kicking my butt, am I doing something wrong," were it not a case of known, unaddressed bugs/disconnects compounding the frustration of what I view as a structural issue (like having to repeat everything instead of going to a checkpoint), I'm gonna vent about the bugs and design issues first. Then I'd do a separate post for advice. In retrospect, story missions with a massive difficulty spike like this give me the impression the Devs wanted to leverage folks into grouping, and I hate, hate, hate, PuGs. I don't mind interacting with folks; I'm always happy to jump in and help out when people are downed or fighting some boss or doing an event, or just got piled on with adds... but I get really irritated when I hit storyline content that feels like I'm getting leveraged in the direction of "gotta group to beat this story mission." And that frustration is enhanced by how much I like other aspects of the game, like the Living World in general, or how the storyline is usually very solo-friendly. I'd figured that it was soloable, and I just wasn't using the right strategy. It's not uncommon to get your lunch eaten, look up some guides or comments and go "Oh, I gotta kite this jerk" or something like that. Looked some stuff up, was doing better... and then I hit the bugs, and have to start from scratch. So, yeah. Salt. Course ground rock salt. That Himalayan stuff, even. The rest of your post aside...(hey enjoy the salt)...Hearts and Minds is very soloable. You need to take a few deaths on the way to learn the mechanics. You need to be willing and able to alter your build for the encounter and you need to understand a few fundamentals the game has been teaching your through the easier encounters leading up to it.I won't say it's the best mission in the game. It certainly isn't the worst. It's a giant step forward from the final encounter of the core story in terms of combat. Take the advice up there when you aren't so rattled and tell us how it goes. -

If the rewards are not in line with normal content the players will abandon it.Players do not flock to events with mobs that don't drop things. Look at the rotation of Cursed Shore farming ignoring the champ that the Plinx event goes right past. Or the fact that the two Mordrem Champions that don't drop a champ bags are completely ignored during the chest farm/loot phase of Silverwastes. Further if you artificially slow the player down to normal rates by " some sort of token reward system with strict limits on the number that can be earned per day" why wouldnt they just got back to Silverwastes or Dragonfall? -

Make The Super Adventure Box Permanent!
mindcircus.1506 replied to whitesmoque.2971's topic in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
I think posting again is extremely helpful vs carrying on an old - and dated - post. This brings a fresh round of attention up for the developers to see. ArenaNet has time and again pointed users to "use the forums for feature requests" and it is important that the developers realize that this is still a very fresh and desirable topic. This is something people are actively interested in and it will not stop. Frankly we're talking about virtual bits and bites here so there's really nothing lost in making a new post. I think @"whitesmoque.2971"'s viewpoint is VERY important and pertinent. Think about what he shared. This is emotional for him and to be treated as flippantly as is being done here smacks of a poor community that perhaps should have a second look by ArenaNet itself. Please, please don't say things like how someone's remarks don't bring anything new to the table when they've obviously poured out their heart here. Every thread that calls for this uses a similar "emotional story" or business case without facts/numbers. The developers can see the post just as easily in the existing threads, some of which have been active within the past week. All a fresh thread does is prove a lack of courtesy and etiquette by the OP.If the developers required multiple threads to appreciate a community desire they wouldn't have consolidated the recent threads about the Skyscale. -

Actually event chains are straight up "theme park" design. By your definition Silverwastes would be UGC. The story changing depending on the players input/actions is just branching content. It is still dependant on the player chosing the outcome from a few set results defined by the developers. In UGC, or even the Sandbox example you gave, the users would create the actual story. Actual UGC as it stands in GW2 would be:-People building Roller Beetle tracks in their Guild Halls.-Fashion contests-RP events like Brother Drake's "Pilgrimage Across Tyria"
