  1. time travel for the sake of time travel should be prohibited. I would like to see some philosophical issues with time travel been shown, but rather in a side story and not a main story. An example would be the bootstrap paradox (google it).

    Actually the "google it" part is a joke from doctor who. I'm happy to share the explanation the doctor gives;

    Quote

So there's this man, he has a time machine. Up and down history he goes, zip, zip, zip, zip, zip, getting into scrapes. Another thing he has is a a passion for the works of Ludwig van Beethoven. And one day he thinks, 'What's the point of having a time machine if you don't get to meet your heroes?' So off he goes to 18th century Germany, but he can't find Beethoven anywhere. No one's heard of him. Not even his family have any idea who the time traveller is talking about. Beethoven literally... doesn't exist. This didn't happen by the way. I've met Beethoven. Nice chap, very intense. Loved an arm wrestle. No, this is called the 'bootstrap paradox'. Google it. The time traveller panics. He can't bear the thought of a world without the music of Beethoven. Luckily he brought all of his Beethoven sheet music for Ludwig to sign. So he copies out all the concertos and the symphonies, and he gets them published. He becomes Beethoven. And history continues with barely a feather ruffled. But my question is this - who put those notes and phrases together? Who really composed Beethoven's 5th?

  2. yes, you can transfer for the fee of 500-1800 gems (depending on the world vs world of your choice, but to be honest, at this moment in time I would always pick a 500 gem world).

If you owned a free account and upgraded it to a paid account you are entitled for a free transfer once.

(ps. it used to be possible to transfer for free if you delete all characters. Arenanet has blocked this options and stated it was an exploit, which is funny as it was advertised on the old forum several times by the forum communications team lead who no longer works at Arenanet. Anyways, do not do this! It no longer works)

  3. I personally would dislike a human god centered episode. The stories so far has been too much human centered anywats. A decission has been made to have 5 sentient playable races with each their own culture and religion. Favoring one before the other is not the right way forward in my opinion and has been done too much allready.

Having said that, I would love to see a forked story with several paths again. So having a storyline that starts with each race in their own culture and dives from there in the theory of all quest of understanding the fabrics of the world, would be awesome imo.

It would give the opportunity to replay the story from the different perspectives as we did with the original personal story

  4. Ok, what do we know?
NCSoft said that they are considering (in an advanced stage) to start developing GW3. They said this to investors.
This last part is important. Investors are a different audiance then we are. They want revenue. They do not care about genre's or titles. Saying we are going for GW3 means we are thinking bout starting development of a game by Arenanet that gives the same revenue as GW3.
(why Arenanet, for the simple reason that they are calling it GW3, it is Arenanet who does that)
This means that Arenanet will start working on a new title. It might be called GW3, but as developement hasn't started yet, it might not.
It might be a MO, but I somehow doubt it considering the current market.

In the end, Arenanet shook up the industry with GW1 and they did so with GW2. The only thing I expect is that they might do the same with this "GW3"

Which might be why Anet decided to build GW2 on top of GW1's engine.  Hindsight, now, shows the limitations of that decision.

I doubt that. If I recall correctly the main reason for making GW2 was cause they couldn't do what they wanted to do in the GW1 framework. In my view this means they had a clear idea on what they wanted and created GW2 as a framework to be able to do the things they wanted to do. So I do not think that time was the factor in that decision, but functionality.

  6. skimming over everything said here, I miss one factor.
In my personal experience, development of a new game takes longer and longer.

    For example two bigger franchises:

    GTA
    GTA3: 2001
    GTA VC: 2002
    GTA SA: 2004
    GTA4: 2008
    GTA5: 2013
    GTA6: 2025

    Elder scrolls:
    TES1: 1994
    TES2: 1996
    TES3: 2002
    TES4: 2006
    TES5: 2011
TES6: 2028 (in 2023 the dev said it would hit the market in about 5 years)

Given the current draught in qualified developpers, it is good to asume that this window is stretched further.

Development of GW2 took 5 years (counting from the release of Eye of the North). So it is safe to assume that a GW3 would cost atleast double. So if they would start today, I would see a release around 2034. In the mean time all resources go into development  (otherwise it would stretch even further) and there would be no new content for 10 years.

Obviously you can argue, it doesn't have to be this long, but my point remains. It takes more and more time to create a game from scratch.

Not true at all.  If they respond to GM messages then the GM has to assume they are actively playing even if they are not.  Unattended gameplay is still against the rules.  It's just super easy to get away with it due to very lax enforcement.  It's like using a radar detector to avoid getting a speeding ticket.  If the cop didn't see you speeding they can't give you a ticket.  It doesn't mean you weren't breaking the law otherwise.

I think you  need to check up the word unattended. It means the opposite of attended. So not attended. It does not mean you'll need to have full 100% focus on the screen and nothing else.

Maybe but then everyone would get banned. I mean I walk into walls in WvW when I don't want to be kicked, should I get a 3 day ban for that?

I use a mouse recorded action so I don't have to click 1 or tab when I follow a Meta event should I be banned for that.

The list goes on and nothing has even happen.

To be fair, using a method to bypass a measure to kick someone who is not active is not ok. It might not be unattended gameplay per definition, but rather an exploit (misuse of a feature to bypass in this case the kick you should be getting). That you got a way with it so far, does not mean it is allowed.

It looks to me like OP is looking for unattended farming.

"Sometimes i'm playing the game while watching movie or a stream on my next screen"

"Are there any solo friendly but not fully focused areas like these to farm for hours?"

Per the policy on unattended game play,  "ANY form of unattended gameplay is prohibited in Guild Wars 2."

@Heroic.6740, If I have misunderstood then please explain what you mean by "not fully focused."  When you play the game while watching a movie, are you fully 100% actively playing the game for the whole time or is your focus on the movie while you exploit in-game mechanics to automate farming?

Playing the game while watching a movie is not unattended gameplay.
You are not required to have full and only focus on the screen. Watching a movie or a stream is perfectly allowed. The way GM's check if you have enough attention to the game, is that they'll sent you a PM. If you respond in a timely matter it is ok, if you don't respond they'll take actions

This new model exists now because they are actively developing their new "unannounced" project in Unreal 5. When this project is at 80-90% of development (when they develop the last mini-expansion), perhaps they will return to the real expansions (as long as not another game and not GW3).

All this quality of SoTo is mainly due to the amount they are dedicating to this new project. It's almost exactly the same as IBS, only this time ALL players pay for this content.

We don't have new specializations, not because they are difficult to balance, but because the creativity part is in the other project. And this applies to all SoTo features.

Unfortunately we will have to wait until 2025-2026 to know the future of GW2. It's sad

IBS was free and not a paid expansion.
I see a lot of people happy with the change and a lot of people unhappy. It is the essence of change. Some like it. Some do not. Do you prefer to have a big clunk of content once every 4-5 years or do you prefer to have smaller clunks every year? There is no good or bad here.
    So in short.
Do not complain that the content is low compared to other games.
If you do not like the content, do not buy it. If you dislike the change, do not buy it.

ps. Pro-tip. Propably in 4-5 years you can buy a Soto, and the next 3-4 yearly expansion with a great discount. You can also recieve a huge blob of content in one purchase, just like it was before.

We don't get enough content worth of an expansion, the "expansion" is split into parts of releases over a long time. Did GW2 playerbase ask for this? No. We want real expansions with quality content that brings new stuff to the table. I could play the real expansions and have fun in them for 1-2 years. SOTO I had fun for maybe 1-2 months. Bring back real expansions with real content!

I'm not sure if this is asked for by the playerbase, but the way content has been delivered has always been a debate and seen as controversial. The essence here is money.
With GW2 you pay a fee for the game and it's expansions. If you, like me started playing in 2012 and got every release when it came out it would have cost you 225 euro's/USD
If you buy this all now in the store it would cost you 125 euro's/USD.
So in short. I paid 18,75 euro/USD  per year.

If you compare this to e.g. WoW with monthly fees, you'd pay 350 euro's each year on monthly fees and expansion costs.
Still people keep comparing the amount of content released and expect to have the same amount of quantity and quality.

If you'd want to compare e.g. SoTo with PoF you'd have to keep in mind that between PoF en EoD was a five year gap where you needed to buy new content and still two seasons of living world where released in that timeframe. (comparing EoD with Soto is a bit different due to EoD already shifting in a different release system.

I truly think that this new system is better then it was. but as we do not have to wait for several years for a new expansion, time needs to tell if it truly is better

    What's up with GW utopia?

I wouldn't count Utopia as a loose or unused thread.
It was never released and so never part of the lore. It has been in development at one time, but got replaced by eye of the north and GW2. This doesn't mean that everything that was done is thrown away. Many elements of story, artwork, classes etc, have been used in EotN and GW2. So what's left are scraps and likely not worth the attention.

On a side note: Who or what is Razah?

Yeah, haven't played an mmo in almost a decade. So it's just jarring to me how bots are handled/accepted.

Thing is...they might not be bots.
There is a thing called auto-farming. It doesn't use any atuomated actions, unless those allready existing in game (auto-attack, minions and auto loot). This is perfectly allowed and sometimes called afk-farming. However. afk farming is not allowed. When playing the game like this, you need to be present at your keyboard at all times. I know an elder lady who is knitting while doing this and it is perfectly ok (according to arenanet).  The GM's check this by sending you a pm and if you do not reply, they assume you are afk and actions are taken.

So these people might be botting (using illegal third party software) or afk-farming (both illegal) or auto-farming (allowed). So best thing to do (as explained by others):

    Report and move along!

  14. This is an event running with a good amount of people participating. I am not able to login today, but looking at the commandortags it seems that Professor Portmatt's Lab jumping puzzle is a daily. This is in the same area so it is a bit more crowded then usual.

  15. Hello and welcome back.

Happy to see you want to give it another go. To give you solid advice it would help to understand why you kept loosing interest in the past. You mentioned slow levelling in the past.
Although it is true there are a few shortcuts to leveling. Also they changed the entire experience with a new player experience (NPE). So things have changed here, but not significant.

GW2 levelling is different then most games. In most games the levelling is a learning curve towards the end game. This is only partly true in GW2. There is a much more gradual change and endgame and levelling game do not differ as much. So what you get during levelling is basically what you get when you reach max level.

So why should you stay if the levelling game was boring in the past? The main reason is that GW2 really is very different. There is a main story line that takes you by the hand, but at the same time you also have the freedom to play just as you want from the start. So dare to leave that dotted line and go explore the world.

There are afk Farmers in Doric lake but also some "Lazy Farmers" that arent afk.

Sometimes there are Jade bows or rarely brawlers showing up.

Jade bows are melt in minion swarms but brawlers do damage.

If there is a will to reduce this farm spot the easy solution would be that there will only spawn brawlers and maybe scalled up 2 of them.

Afk Farmers will hate it and must find another less lucrative spot.

Whats your opinion? Sould the Developers think of such ways to deal with bots?

First lets have a few terms straight. You have AFK-farming. This is not allowed. Yo uneed to be present at your keyboard (and considering what afk means, in those terms it is not allowed). However, it is not up to us to make the determination if someone is AFK. Nobody can be forced to prove it to you. They are obliged to react to a GM to prove they are present. So a correct term is auto attack farmers.

I am shocked how many people are offended to auto attack farmers. They are not doing anything that is harming your pleasure in the game, besides working as a crazy red flag.

It is the studio's policy to allow auto attack farming. They do not consider it harmful. If you disagree with that, please explain how it is harmful for you personally.

To me I would not care less what people do and do not. I'm not an auto attack farmer and it is not something I would find pleasure in, but I also understand that for others they like it. When they are botting or afk-ing it is something else as it is against the rules. But most important. I would not like if they spend precious dev time to fight this. It would turn into a cat and mouse game. The devs fix a spot and they move on to a new spot. So more dev time is spent, and more, etc. So far, GM's check if they are present at keyboard (and please report if you see them and suspect they are afk).

If the farms happen in places harmfull to others, it gets fixed (e.g. when it takes all agro away from those doing a heart), but otherwise, let them be where they are. Easier to find for the GM's and no dev time is wasted.

  17. To explain the issue a bit more. I do not know what core you use. but I compared two CPU's. One is very modern 10gen I7. One is an I 7 released in 2012 (when the game released as well).
The 2012 CPU has 4 cores that run3,7GHz. The 10gen I7 runs 8 cores on 3,5GHz. The 8 cores make it much more powerfull, but GW2 is never designed to use this power and only uses a single core for it's main processes. So in essence, you CPU is lesser then a CPU released in 2012 when the game launched.

Running on lower settings will resolve a lot of FPS dips.

And a general advice. Having a great gaming pc means nothing to how good GW2 runs. less cores, more power per core is what it loves.

I agree with most that how GW2 handles participation of fights in open world is per design. It is an essential part of the design manifesto and makes this game unique. So please understand the harsh reactions.

What helps however is when you explain better what you mean. I think a lot of confusion exists due to not being clear what you mean. Can you give an example of a boss challenge you would like to do solo? Where is it? how do you get there? etc!

"I have a personal opinion that using teleports diminish the acomplishment of those who did it without help."

This person is entitled on a personal opinion. But making it look like a rule made by the devs is plain wrong in many many ways.

GW2 per design is made for cooperation. Not to combat each other in accomplishments and deeds ,but to work together and help each other to accomplish common goals.
Anyone may play it in any way they like. Acting like this is bad, unfriendly and borders on harassment.

My advice to you, ignore and move on. There are evil people in this world. a.k.a. Trolls. And as stated in Queensdale outside a cave: "Do not feed the trolls"

  20. I doubt it will work in WvW. It would give some terrible effect, specially cause often tehre are too many people in the zerg. Imagine, most people not getting credit cause they cant get close enough towards the keeplord to get a hit in. Queue's to enter the broken gate would be massive as well.

  21. just a small addition.
Make sure the gift has a note on it that explicitly tells you are gifting this to the reciepient.  (e.g. if you forward the mail with the code, make sure it says you are giving this friend the game for them to use and own. or when doing it giftwrapped add a note saying that

If your friend ever gets into issues (e.g. being hacked) this can be used to resolve any ownership disputes. In case an ownership dispute arises and can not be resolved, the account can be permanent suspended.
