  1. I just returned to pvp to complete some achieves after a very long absence. I was shocked by weekend play. Out of 10 matches, in 2 games 2 players ran around listlessly not capping and dying almost instantly to anyone (obviously not much effort was put in), and in another 4 games 1 player was afk in 2 games and 2 players were afk in the other 2 games. When I complained in team chat about it to the players, the responses I got were from the opposition in MAP chat. The other 4 games everybody tried and we won. This is unacceptable and Anet should do something about it. When players throw games or are afk in ranked matches, Anet should not reward ANYONE in any manner when anyone is afk. That would at least prevent afking. As for those not really trying to help the team, but rather, helping the opposition, there ought to be some solution so this type of improper play is not encouraged. I stopped playing weekends cuz I went from gold rank to silver. Its no fun when players choose to waste my time and teammates' time and choose for me to tank my rank. C'mon Anet, this has been a problem for years and it's still not addressed. Just make everyone forfeit, then we all waste time and that might discourage it or end the match instantly and reset with no rewards.
  2. I miss playing with my friends. The new BETA has separated us. I miss playing with the good open squad commanders I grew accustomed to. Now playing alone with a full zerg build (I don't do, and don't want to do, 1 v 1 in wvw - thats for pvp!). I dont enjoy the 1 v 1 ganker style in wvw - its pointless and just plain mean. On a recent Sat nite in EBG a commander was running an invisible (no tag) closed squad for HOURS. I aksed for an invite and he didnt even respond. Is this designed to just make players frustrated? All the rest of us uninvited players had to simply trail behind or solo it and we just got picked off. Either way I can either make all new armor and new 1 v 1 solo builds and play pvp in a big huge space or I can die cuz I have little protection against gankers. This type of exclusionary play should not be allowed in wvw, especially on weekends. It hurts our servers trying to win and it hurts players who die constantly (hurting overall scoring) and making them run back from base incessantly. Makes no sense. Players get tired of it and we lose players and standing. Why does ANET ignore this? Why force players out of zerg squad protections and cooperative team play? Why make zerg players be solo? This game just begs for players to quit. Please address this ANET. You can even run AI commanders, it would be preferable. Also, how long before I get a ban from this forum for my agreement with OP vent for this reply?
  3. Not knowing any better is not an excuse nor does it justify it's use, just as with racism. And the racism reference was an analogy to point out that the use of slurs to depict racist feelings by deminimizing a race/races of people who are different from the person using the slur with an offensive effect on others is the same thing as using a slur that has the effect of deminimizing the people experiencing a horrifying disease. It's a slur. It has the intended effect of deminimizing people and their experiences and what they go through because they are different from those who toss the slurs off like it is nothing.
  4. It doesn't mean crab. It means canker. And the cankers were described as crablike, hence the Greek name for the zodiac symbol was used as a descriptor not a definition. Also, no one is objecting to or referring to its use as zodiac symbol, so what's your point. That's a proper name in a specific context, not a slang use referring to a horrifying disease which was what OP and others are objecting to. I have objected to players using this term in GW2 since the day of launch. Its every bit as offensive in the cavalier manner used as any offensive name I have ever been called. So please deal with it.
  5. I am well aware of the tos. I am well aware anet has the right to devalue any virtual good. I acknowledged they are king long ago. I don't think anyone is disputing anets lawful right to do it. But it doesn't make it a nice choice for all players. It also doesn't mean they are not open to criticism, suggestions for changes/remedies/fixes for undesirable or possibly unintended consequences, as evidenced by the fact they chose to implement a forum and routinely monitor and visit the forum for content and player/community reactions and suggestions. I am also aware that as a player we have 4 legal choices: 1) play the game as is and shut up; 2) play the game as is and complain and/or make suggestions for improvements in game or on forum; 3) quit; 4) pursue other options not necessarily applicable or relevant to this discussion. I have chosen #2 and in doing so I am trying to address concerns and prevent unintended player attrition (#3) by vets. So encouraging people to leave the game as the only or best course of action in reaction to a devaluation of an item by anet does not seem reasonable ... it is neither the only choice we players have (so stop inaccurately characterizing it as such) nor is it the best choice since potential player attrition is exactly the phenomenon we are trying to prevent by voicing our concerns and disappointments.
  6. Oh, if only that was good, meaningful or relevant advice. Not complaining about time spent in game or my commitment to a game or my life balance which you make ridiculous assumptions about. I'm getting sleepy. I'm not complaining about boosts given to new players so they can catch up and play meaningfully. I welcome it. I don't resent it. I resent the devaluation of my gard bought expensive end game cosmetic gear being devalued and rendered ubiquitous without any "freebies for everyone" cept vets.
  7. Good for you! Why does this topic interest u then? You should go play and enjoy the game as is then, unless you are averse to getting a freebie? U find something objectionable about that? Doesn't sound like it. I want new players too and for the game to keep going and not lose vet players.
  8. Just patently wrong assumptions about my feelings, thoughts, motivations and analysis of issues. How many times do I have to state I'm ok with the freebies. Y can't freebies be given to vets? Answer that and stop with the pseudo armchair psychology, it's ridiculous.
  9. You, contrary to others, have actually raised some interesting points worth closer consideration. The fact that my gen 1 legendary has better stats does make it valuable, both in terms of play and in terms of expense. That's why valuation issues are important here. First, now everyone can easily play with enhanced stats, rendering my initial effort and purchase as well as my continued use of this weapon meaningless (tho admittedly there's nothing stronger available) since now everyone will have it with both minimal effort and minimal expense. OK. But the skin, also part of the main appeal of this product has been rendered ubiquitous along with its stats/use. So now there's nothing special about it. It's just another ubiquitous skin, that I can change stats on (like ascended gear using available tools), that everyone will have with minimal effort or gold, rendering it, in a very short period of time, with little value... hence my comparison to exotics. These legendaries were expensive because they were desirable for their stats and skins, which have now been made ordinary (everyone gets the same skin/stats). This upsets me as it disproportionately affects players like myself who worked hard and spent alot to get them. As to your point about my legendary armor being rendered devalued because of the starter kit gift, you are right. I stand corrected. I looked into it more closely, and I am wrong on this point and was wrong in my assessment of the functionality of the kit as it applies to legendary armor and I am sorry if I misled or confused others with my misunderstanding in this regard. As to your final point, I disagree and still stand firm on my assessment and disappointment. I have 8 pieces of legendary gear that I paid a fortune for, mostly via in game play garnering mats, but also in game gold earned and occasional purchases in jy 11 years of playing gw2. This is very hard bought gear for me of which I was proud (I only just recently made my character look the way I wanted her to after 11 years ... I must be doing something wrong, as this is all I have to show gear-wise after 11 years (most of my alts are in exotics or patched together ascended armor with shared ascended or my 2 legendary weapons). While I do not begrudge making it easier for others to get it and would not want anyone to have to grind like I did to get it, by making it easier to craft it without in any way acknowledging in-game my efforts to get it or my devotion to the game, and by making it devalued by making it ubiquitous and leveling the playing field, literally, I remain affected and disappointed. And you are right, I have gear which was worth 1000s of in-game gold no longer is (and I'm pretty sure my wvw gear is account bound anyway). In any event, the scarcity and exclusiveness (because of the scarcity for reasons stated above) of my gen 1 weaps has been nullified. I am sad and would like something to acknowledge my efforts. Wheres the harm in that suggestion? No one addresses this.
  10. I completely agree with everything you said. However, my point remains. Anet could easily, and with no harm or insult to anyone, reward ther veteran players to avoid Disrespect or hurt feelings. I am not rich with in game gold, or in real life, but I would be much much much more inclined to open my wallet then.
  11. Also, I love how your response does not address my response quoted in your response.
  12. What a silly, confusing, irrelevant and dare I say woefully underwhelming parable of falsehoods and empty meanings. But that's just my opinion. Perhaps others will think it's genius and beneficial.
  13. Again, I have no idea what you are saying, y u r screaming, or what point u r trying to make. Try again. Remember, I have no real issue with giving freebies and boosts to players.
  14. Just cuz u don't feel disrespected doesn't mean he doesn't or that he is invalid in his feelings cuz u don't feel the same or feel nothing. He stated it was his opinion and his feelings (not sure y u "felt" you needed to capitalize "feelings" or scream the word since feelings are a wonderful thing to have). He's entitled to his feelings, entitled to voice his feelings and entitled to complain until anet decides otherwise. And the fact you disagree doesn't mean you are right or even have a reason that you voiced as to why you disagree. But whatever.
  15. To use your somewhat analagous, tho incomplete hypothetical, no ... but if the shoes are advertised and promoted as coveted specifically because they are expensive and exclusive (think Prada) and limited by availability of money and therefore by necessity of a limited release, and then in one unexpected move they are distributed for free to everyone on the planet, thereby causing not just natural timely devaluation but complete obliteration of value, I venture to guess if you had saved and worked hard for those shoes, expecting they would hold desirability value, you would be sorely disappointed and might resent the company who either marketed them that way in the first place or decided to dump them as nothing more than ubiquitous footwear like an exotic or starter gear. This is not a hard concept. It causes hard feelings in some owners. Maybe the plentiful rich could care less, or maybe those who care about nothing could care less, but I care and it bothers me some. And besides, I still haven't seen any reason given why anet couldn't make the vet group with saddened reactions to their decision in this regard a compensation of some kind to soothe those reactions. It would hurt no one and go a long way to making certain vet players not resentful.
  16. Your disagreement is flawed and disingenuous. I did not get deterred 10 years ago when time gating requirements were linked to exclusive rewards. I played the game and earned it. New players have the exact same opportunities to earn my gear in the exact same way I earned it. But I'm not objecting to new players getting a boost in that endeavor. New player envy is not something that concerns me however as the entire game is predicated on working on goals to get rewards and cosmetics, and I still have envy when I see many players achievements and gear, so whatever. Those new players can start today working on various rewards/goals, even with a boost up that I didn't get and don't object to, and can commit for 10 years like I did to get my specific (but not unique to ne!) cosmetic rewards and achieves, or not, according to their interest and commitment goals.
  17. No, haven't seen anything helpful here that addresses my concerns or suggestions to anet for improvement. Why be concerned with my steam level as that is irrelevant as well.
  18. Because you quoted a quote that was a direct response to my post and since you were in alignment with that post you were specifically directing your rude implications to me and not the responder to my post with whom you were in agreement. Hope that clears up any confusion for you. Seems to me you are making me the center of attention... if it bothers you stop responding. Hope that makes life easier for you, given your concerns. And btw, I still don't appreciate your unwarranted passive aggressive comment which is not on topic and adds nothing to the discussion.
  19. See my response above. Nothing has value. Also, the game is based on cosmetics, graphics and rewards/accomplishments. As I said above, we could all just be green dots bashing red dots by your analysis, but I don't think that's the pixelated features that make the game great. However, I still might play it, but I bet u wouldnt. However, when your new car devalues when you drive it off the lot, you have come to expect that, because of artifical profit mark up, something I know I'm not saying and I suspect you would not suggest that anet is doing. However, when your car, advertised as being expensive and exclusive, is not only devalued but is given to everyone on the planet for free or next to nothing, is that concerning? Not because everyone has a car (yay!), but because of the tremendous value you personally just lost. If thats a selfish view, especially since I'm happy for new players that they have a meaningful chance to play (drive) and the game keeps going and doesnt get shut down, we'll so be it. I'm expressing my personal views and how I've been personally affected. If nothing else, when you scrimped and saved and paid really good money for your expensive car (and time at your loads of fun job earning it), expecting it to hold some value and prestige over time (think about the used car market), but instead it became the one free/cheap car in a world that still values aesthetics, prestige and money, how would you feel? Like you will drive it just like everyone else with zero regret? Like u want to drive it off a cliff? Like u want to buy it again? Or take a chance on a different pricy model where the same thing is guaranteed to occur again in the future? Wouldn't u be just a little angry or disappointed? More importantly, if you were poor and spent real life money or poor in a game forever (which u admit u r not as u boasted endlessly how easy it was for to enjoy the privileges of the game), wouldn't that disappointment or anger be a little bit greater for u than for someone who didn't care cuz they have lots of privilege, stuff and opportunities for more? I'm not advocating taking away the car from the rest.. I'm advocating that we not let older players feel like they might as well go drive their prized possession off a cliff and feel bad.
  20. Boomer refers to the baby boom generation. You're not a Boomer if ur 40 or thereabouts, no matter how u think. Boomers as used as a colloquial term does not refer to a mindset. As to te rest of what u said, u r repeating what has already been said ad infinitum. Regurgitation of common views does not make it a stronger argument or position or make it a majority view unless it truly is a view held by a majority of the people affected by the issue, which I'm not seeing, and it does not make it a superior reasoned view. I still haven't seen a reason why my suggestions are bad or harmful. Unnecessary is not the same as harmful or compelling (nor do I agree that it is an unnecessary fix). In fact, unnecessary is nothing. You like the game. I get it. I do too. I would like it better if anet rewarded their older players after negating the high costs they recently paid for exclusive cosmetic content which is now as prestigious as starter gear. You also said you don't care. I do. So you really have nothing to add to what's already been said, which I've responded to over and over above. I'm sleepy now.
