  1. It's either the very few instances of words which can barely be considered "swear words" by today's measure or Anet replacing those instances with "kitten". Take your pick. Personally, I noticed it only because it hasn't been done in greater Tyria to my knowledge so it stands out. But having been in the military, and having even a cursory (see what I did there?!) understanding of Charr culture and Blood Legion specifically, the presence of these "swear words" is absolutely spot on.
  2. In my experience, it's not having to play through the story once to get the scroll. That should be expected, imo. The issue (for me at least) is that there is no current tome which allows use of the scroll. Granted, it will most likely end up coming out with the next episode but you would think that Anet wouldn't overlook making the scroll useless until that point.
  3. Something to consider: IIRC, the roller beetle is "required" in the sense that obtaining it is part and parcel of the associated chapter of LW i.e. you cannot complete the chapter without getting the beetle. The same, as I recall, cannot be said for the skyscale. This would (could) account for there being a rentable skyscale but not roller beetle. What it does not account for are new accounts that boosted their character and therefore, may not have the beetle.
  4. After playing for a couple of years (I started a few days before POF launch), I finally feel confident enough to offer some insight on the Saga Prologue. a) The story is FANTASTIC. I loved the cinematic cameras during Bangar's initial speech and during the final event. It really adds a great deal of weight to this particular character and identifies him as the main antagonist without someone having to literally point at him and say, "See? See? SEE?!?! LOOK AT HIM! HE'S A BAD GUY!". In this way, he is a sympathetic villain in many ways though clearly a villain. Which is how a well written villain should be. b) The unstructured nature of the meta event is great. Unlike maps such as Dragonstand and Tangled Depths (I wish I could implement a slash and burn policy for TD and start a coffee bean farm in TD), having the freedom to run around and focus on which events I want to farm sure beats running around and triggering certain events to get to where I need to go. If that makes sense. c) The lead singer of the band is misnamed. His name should be Kurt CUBain. Seriously. How did Anet MISS this?! d) The 'hidden event' during the concert is the best thing ever. Trust me, if you haven't done it, do it. And look up while you wait for it. You'll never be the same again. e) The t-shirt award is AWESOME. But really, we don't have a ripped jeans skin to go along with it?! That's an oversight if ever I saw one LOL! f) The zone is GORGEOUS. That's all I have to say about that. e) Permanently learning new dances/emotes is BRILLIANT. I can remember years ago when another company promised a similar feature as a major part of their (then) upcoming expansion and were unable to follow through due to 'limitations to the player skeletons'. And even when they went through a graphical revamp many years later, that 'promise' went unfulfilled. So whatever it took for you guys to do it, I sincerely thank you for it. It puts you head and shoulders above that 'other company' imo. Hopefully, this will lead to us being able to learn dances from other races on a permanent basis; if anyone exemplifies "shufflin' e'erday" it's the Charr. f) Finally, whoever wrote and performed the music just gained a new fan. I grew up during the late 80's through the 90's so I grew up with everything from glam rock through industrial. As such, the music made me feel like a young'un again and I found myself at several points missing events and just partying like it WAS 1989 again. Good times. Good times. Also, if you release the concert on CD or even cassette or better still BOTH CD and cassette, I WILL buy both. g) I get that Charr cubs are raised in a harsh environment. However, I'd like to point out that Kasmeer and Jory should NEVER be allowed to adopt.Kasmeer: "Let me earn your trust by taking your cubs on a field trip!"Random Charr: "Sure. Uhhh...Okay?"Kasmeer tries to get all the cubs killed by 'illusions' unless someone intervenes. Overall, Bound By Blood is my favorite 'chapter' of the overarching story thus far and the map backs it up. Here's to bigger and better things moving forward.
  5. Personally, I don't have TOO much of an issue with the masks being locked behind RNG. However, that being said, they ARE tied to a Meta achievement and relying on RNG to complete a Meta achievement for those who didn't spend nearly all day yesterday grinding out a certain track in WvW for the meta award seems a bit...too much. While I understand people want this to be a 'prestige item', I think that argument falls apart in the face of the items (particularly the helms) being Charr only. Personally, I would allow them to be sold by the pepper vendor for a larger price (500 peppers ea., 1500 for all three) OR RNG locked which grants you all three via one unlock. Giving players an option to farm and target a reward or rely on RNG is never a bad thing.
  6. It may not sound like much, particularly as I've only been playing since right before POF launch, but I recently got Honorary Skritt and finished off the Tequatal meta. So I'm happy. Next up, farming the rest of the core Tyria masteries I need to complete the final crafting tier.
  7. As a "casual player" i.e. someone who, up until the skyscale patch, only really played the current LW episodes and the would log off to play alts, etc., the only currency I found to be truly obnoxious were the diflourite crystals and branded crystals. Other than that, I found I had more than enough map currencies and, timegating not withstanding (it made sense to me because we were "growing and training" a baby skyscale), I was able to get the two currencies I really needed with a weekend's worth of farming events across the maps. And that was with several long breaks in between farming runs as well. I'll be perfectly honest, when choosing between the skyscale and griffion, I find the griffon to be a more functionally sound mount than the skyscale. I feel the skyscale was meant to be a "luxury" mount and as such, is going to require a bit more time put into farming for it. But that's just my two cents.
  8. WARNING!! SPOILERS!!! So this is something I've been thinking a lot about recently. With Taimi being set up to die, the inclusion of the mistwalker items on the gem store, having watched WP's recent recap of LWS1, and Dragon Bash starting today, it makes sense to me. Dragon Bash starts off with a celebration that eventually culminates in Taimi dying. This allows Gorrik to take her place in Dragon's Watch. As Taimi is dying, Zoija reappears from death's door and being Zoija, she blames US for Taimi's death. After all, we ARE now aligned with an ascendent Elder Dragon, we're aligned with a former Inquest asura, her friend Eir is dead, Logan has moved on to the Pact, and Caithe is communing with the previously mentioned Elder Dragon. And it's all OUR fault. So that's what ends Dragon's Bash. LWS 5 is us basically pursuing Zoija (driven insane with grief and unable to deal with core philosophical changes to our mission) into the Mists as she wages war on Tyria (and the Mists) whom she blames for Taimi's death. After all, Taimi is the only one she has had any previous link to that hasn't moved on and without Taimi to educate her, it makes sense that Zoija would go off the deep end. In addition, fighting in the Mists would allow for some very interesting interactions between Zoija, Snaff, and Eir. But maybe I'm just spitting into the wind.
  9. But again, I truly do not know the answer: Have we said her condition is terminal? I cannot recall it, but I'd like to know the answer to the question from your perspective. Actually, Taimi confirmed it herself in the cutscene.
  10. I wouldn't want.to see Taimi kick off. If you stop to think about it, she's DW's conscience. Without her, we would be running around smashing Elder Dragons putting Tyria in even more danger. Primordus and Jormag wouldn't be sleeping. Kralkatorik would be even more powerful (possibly) and Elona woud be a smear. Taimi's work has kept this mess from getting far, far worse. If she were to kick the bucket, it's obvious we would simply resort to our previous, and far more destructive, measures.
  11. I disgree with you. Change my build? Buy repair canisters? Bring along a party? Are we talking about raids here? IMO, story content are meant to be enjoyable. For an average player, and there are many out there, having to die many times in order go through the story is not enjoyment, that's total frustration. This is supposed to be story progression. I want to discover new locations, plots and enjoy the gameplay along the way. Making the LS too challenging makes me want to give up or quickly get over it, too frustrated to care about anything else. I know there are many elitists out there who wants everything to be challenging and NOTHING to them is ever difficult. Well, good for you. For the rest of us, please let us enjoy our games. I'm about as "casual" (for lack of a better word) and while I agree the Scruffy 2.0 fight can be remarkably frustrating; I got caught in the beams and gave myself a migraine trying to get free, I think a degree of story difficulty isn't a bad thing. I get it. I do. Single player content should be doable but that doesn't mean that it shoul just be a cakewalk in my opinion. Something like the Scruffy 2.0 or Joko fight should require the player to use basic mechanics such as dodge rolling and break bars to be successful. I agree that one should not have to re-trait to be successful but on the flip side, if you're having difficulty re-traiting may make things easier for you. That's why we have the trait system after all-so we can meet each challenge optimally. I will say this though: once you do the fight the first time, the second time is much, much easier when you know what to expect. Stay tough. You absolutely can do it. I did and I downright can stink at the game.
  12. Btw, just making sure, that you are still pressing your attack/jump button during movie scenes. Cause even tho you're unable to move it seems to keep the connection. I just got through it. I took the precaution of putting my settings on low and actually spammed moving left and right as well as my jump button. Ironically, that seemed to almost skip the last cutscene where Rytlock os talking over your dead body. Thank all the kittens in Tyria I got through. Onwards and upwards...or southwards to The Desolation!
  13. UPDATE I tried to use the "keep moving/spam abilities" work around during post-EoS Joko dialogue and was able to exit the Mists. Bear in mind, I only tried this once because as I was coming back to life and Rytlock was talking, I got booted back to tue character select screen. I have not yet been able to try again. Perhaps I'll be able to duplicate (and succeed?) this evening after work. I'm not technical genius (if I can turn on a computer without it blowing up, that's a success in my book) but based on my experience with this issue and reading about other player experiences, I wonder if it's not somehow related to the logout due to inactivity feature. Which leads me to ask: 1) Is there a way to turn off this feature or extend that period before auto-logout?2) I know it's a longshot but is there a way we may be able to skip the cutscenes where we are unable to interact (move/spam abilities) thus possibly preventing the "auto-logout"?
  14. I've been told that Anet is telling people to use a VPN as a workaround for these disconnects; mine happens after Joko's taunting at the end of the story chapter "The Departing". Being as how this is-to my knowledge-an unsubstantiated rumor, can you: 1) Clarify that as of right now, this is one of Anet's possible solutions 2) State which particular 3rd party solution i.e. VPN Anet is saying we need to use to operate GW2? 3) If, as I've been told this is a true statement, what support and guarantees does Anet provide for this 3rd party fix (I would assume that Anet would assume responsibility for any 3rd party program which is not listed in the system requirements to run the game) should we continue to not only experiencing in-game issues but general issues with this speculative VPN?
  15. A) You're not the boss of meB) so why should it be?
  16. I'm in the same boat. Just got a group through LFG and with 10 folks, it failed although we did get it down to maybe 33% or so. It stinks because it seems as if there is stuff locked behind the griffon mount and LFG really isn't much of a help. At this point, I'm wondering if I should even bother.
  17. This will be fantastic! Can't wait to see how it all shakes out
  18. So as I understand it, you want the bunny to progress through story you don't have access to because all instance servers are down? I totally get the frustration as I had to wait nearly a day on US because instance servers were down. But others are correct-by playing through the story instances (when they're up) and hunting through the first zone, you will end up with more.than enough MP to get your raptor to L3 long before you get to the bunny.
  19. Being a new player and coming from another wildly popular MMORPG, I felt the actual storytelling in episode 1 was fantastic (I caught up with almost all of the pre-PoF story via youtube) and imparted a rather deep sense of urgency which is absent in most games. One element I think would be worth exploring in future episodes (perhaps throughout the entire season and maybe even beyond through the next expansion) would be the ramifications our character's actions have and the public's perception of us because of SPOILERS our very rash, I'll thought out actions have had i.e. Joko alive and well and terrorizing Tyria and Kralkatorrik being stronger and more dangerous than before.
  20. Unfortunately, the video is not available to me for viewing but (as I'm sure you know) one of the biggest and most successful aspects of selling/marketing is setting yourself apart from the competition. What does GW2 offer that no other MMO offer? Having watched some videos on YouTube prior to POF release, there were two things that made me a believer: 1) No sub fee. One of the biggest complaints about games is the "paying to play" (DLC, loot boxes, subscription fees, etc.) AFTER you've actually purchased the game. GW2 doesn't have this issue; I don't consider the gem store in this vein because there are no truly mandatory items in the gem store. And sure, most subs are inexpensive but would you rather pay $15.00/mo. to play after you purchased the game or not pay a dime at all? 2) The storytelling. GW2 truly sets itself apart with the episodic nature of the personal story and living world season (PLEASE make S1 available; I missed out!) which provides a player something to look forward to at set intervals. And there's also QUALITY of storytelling. Out of all the MMORPGs out there, GW2 has some of the most intricate storytelling and character development. That's what hooked ME and I believe those are two elements you should really hit on. And saturation is important. Hit up not only digital media but televised spots if possible. Maybe even strongly promote your printed media (novels) as well. But that's just me.
