  1. I think it's mainly because of how vertical the map is. The trek to either of the points with the orb in your possession takes longer than it should. Aesthetically, the map is beautiful, but it's just very difficult to traverse. Also, you take quite a hefty fall damage, which can kill you instantly when you are low on health. If you are a kiting build with high vitality, this map is great or if you are a sniping build, there are are a lot of nifty hiding places. But, overall, Spirit Watch is just difficult too play in. Also, if you have teammates who don't understand the orb mechanic or who are just starting out in PVP, rotation is a nightmare in Spirit Watch. I believe it's the type of map that players need more practice and training in to understand.
  2. To add to that, Norns are already shapeshifters; go create a Norn Soulbeast and see how that goes. Actually, I wonder how Beastmode would work while one is transformed into their spirit animal. (LOL, that discussion is for another time.) The whole point of Soulbeast is to absorb the souls of beasts and become one with your pet, not turn INTO your pet. Now, OP, it is entirely up to you whether you would like to use Soulbeast, but it is not wise to say that the elite spec is completely useless when the devs took the time to create something that most, if not all, ranger mains have been requesting for quite some time. The pets are essential to a ranger, so the devs thought of a (brilliant, in my honest opinion) way to keep what is essential to rangers, while satisfying the requests of their players. Soulbeast needs some tweaking, yes, but it is up to the players to "make do" with what is given to them. You don't need to use Soulbeast. Core ranger is still an amazing class to play. Druid is in high demand for end game content. If what you are using is upsetting you, make changes or switch to a different profession.
  3. Well, that's why they need to be mentored and shown that there are more options than just LB/GS. There are a lot of rangers who are running around Tyria, not knowing that there are builds other than LB/GS, that get blasted for using a skill that they have no idea affects others. ?
  4. I also suggest ranger, not only because I'm biased as a ranger main ?, but because the learning curve for ranger (in ALL aspects, not just combat) is relatively easy. You can learn at your own pace and not get frustrated with its mechanics. Well, not get TOO frustrated. And, if I do say so myself, most rangers are pretty helpful in game. I know most people choose ranger for the tankiness of the pet, but you can learn later on to utilize your pet without it taking all the damage for you. Rangers are versatile; regardless of whether you use a condi, power, hybrid, or theorycrafted build of your own, it is very easy to learn and pick up. And, goshdarnit, ranger is so fun! Finding pets, naming them, crafting your build, creaming bosses (sometimes on your own), and really just ranging the land is so much fun! Great for solo and group content, too. ? If you do end up choosing ranger, I wouldn't mind helping you out and showing the ropes. Good luck on your selection and welcome to Tyria!
  5. We failed the first time mainly because of disconnection issues with several of our members. I was using core ranger the first time, but realized that although I was surviving, that didn't help out our group as much. So, I switched over to Soulbeast so that I could share my boons with Leader of the Pack. I think what most of us were thinking as we adjusted our builds was how we could benefit the group more. Truthfully, what made it easier for us was cutting the commute time short by announcing where the waves were and getting there as fast as possible. During our first attempt, we burnt almost 30 secs each time we had to travel to a boss. When we had someone announcing, travel time was cut almost in half. I also remember that having the boss reach 33% before 1 min and 30 secs almost always guaranteed success for defeating the wave. You'll definitely need a lot of CC skills for the break bars, but probably out-DPSing the boss and its minions might do the trick. Ignore the other enemies, just focus on the ones with icons over them. We had a good mixture of melee and ranged and everyone had a condi-cleanse, though those who COULD share did so.
  6. My guild and I took two attempts. The first attempt had about 7 people (we failed spectacularly). We all went out of the hall to discuss ways we could better survive the onslaught, adjusted our builds a bit, then went back in. We didn't need Raid DPS, just communication. We had one person as commander, announcing where the next wave would be at, then made our way there. I think what made our second attempt easier was really communicating on Discord. When someone joined the chat, we invited them to capture the guild hall and they jumped right in. Whenever someone was downed, two people rez'd the person (faster rez'ing), then went back to fighting. There was no delay, no confusion. Mind you, we did not run a Scourge; in fact, we all played the builds we wanted to with a few adjustments (boon-sharing and group-oriented skills). Our second attempt had 8 members. You can do this, OP! Be sure to communicate with your guildies to say where each wave is at. If you fail a wave, don't feel defeated. Calmly make your way to the next wave and make sure you defeat that one. Ah, you probably know this, but at every third of the bosses' health, its minions come out to protect it. Be aware of when the bosses' health is at 66% and 33%. Might help with getting things done quickly and efficiently.
