  1. Trash blob guilds that can't even cycle like a pair ventari of bubbles and/or guardian domes/blocks. This is why I think most people that play FB need to get off my class. And for some reason there's quite a few. That's why they need to hide behind 15-20 instant res skills.
  2. Nobody really knows. All these designations are arbitrary and it's not like we have any official population stats. So medium or high means exactly what Anet wants to mean. Basically, you can move to it or not. Maybe the overall activity is higher and so people can start moving to servers that aren't as relatively huge as they were in the past, etc.
  3. It was even more fun when people didn't have skyscales to afk and be 100% safe. Also the pocket raptors need a buff in wvw.
  4. nw Air Keep wall? Formerly the mad cow wall, but they got rid of the cow.
  5. Well, speaking from a WvW perspective. It's usually a matter of saving your cleanses for when you really need them and you cleanse their burst(s). But for this reason I feel smite (or even taking Valor) is better for most players, because it is too easy to panic CoP.. Also it really helps with saving Renewed focus for when you seriously need those clears, and you should be using f2 to reposition yourself and cleanse. You shouldn't be trying to land flames on people with f2 in these cases. This is especially important against stuff like Necros and eles because you cannot facetank that regardless of how many clears you bring. It is harder on Cele because fights are naturally longer and it really comes down to how you can spare cooldowns. And toughness doesn't help against condi I suppose (vs marauders) Although it also depends on how much health you actually have. (runes can make a big difference) The other thing is people in WvW frequently run dodge food, and it can be hard to keep up in a sustained fight without it regardless of who is fighting. Also maybe antitoxin relic.
  6. Oh yea, and the holding rune prices are a bit inflated atm. Careful with the price gouging.
  7. Yep, clear bias here and not even subtle at all. Pretty bad change. It's not like disablers weren't easily nullified by random blocks and projectile hate. Guess we're not allowed to delay the dev karma trains.
  8. Lock On is actually great for trolling stealth users. You just need attacks with AOE effects. Like nobody ever expects the revealing supply crate. I think the bigger problem is that it's in Tools, which is not easily accessible by many builds without a significant sacrifice.
  9. I honestly have almost never seen any such people trying to pretend to scout to get participation. But then I suppose most leeches don't have that kind of intelligence to come up with that or make it non-obvious. And I wouldn't hang around such people because people that leech in WvW are the lowest of the low not because they suck, but because they are also stupid since anyone with half a brain would leech in pve for many times the rewards. And gold is so easy to get in this game. Like I feel like if you should commit to something, you should do it with pride and try to do it well. If someone wants to be a useless parasite, then they should go all the way and find the optimum way of being a parasite. This way said parasite gets what they need and can kitten right off. Any less is just a lack of self respect, and it's a waste of both them and the other people's time. I suppose they could be leeching for legendary armor in pve but that kind of stupidity is immeasurable. "Oh hey, being able to randomly change into a power build with Shaman stats is definitely mandatory for open world, let's invest the time of a full time job into this", assuming they even know how to stat change. And the fact they are probably still here instead of gone and done in half a year like a pro leech is evident enough. Because of this I probably never would see or associate with them. Except on the forums maybe when they cry about how nobody wants to play with them-- great way to add a filter to avoid them. 🤣 It's my personal belief is if drama follows someone and it seems like nobody wants to play with them, there's a reason-- and it's usually them. And that was my point about having about 5 people to play with which solves most problems with participation and tag dependency. If you get a handful of people that you have common goals with, then it's much easier to play the game and all of a sudden tags saying mean things to you and "nOBODY aPPRECIATES mY cALLS" doesn't matter because you need them much less. And if one plays the game for many years and still haven't gotten a couple of people that can stand playing with them in their chosen game mode then, well.... then the problem is evident. Stop playing an MMO like a single player game.
  10. If I got told that I would tell them that their feedback has been received and will be promptly thrown in the trash. I mean, they don't own the chat. Other pugs can see the messages. This just sounds like an easy block. I don't give a kitten who says what I can or can't say. If they don't like it they can block or report. The only thing that would be a bad idea is constantly talking about a queued map in team chat but then it's team chat and nobody cares. I think it is very important to find out who the defenders and scouts are on your server/link. This requires some.... scouting at times, but I've found almost like every link from t1-t4 NA has them if you know where to look. Now sometimes you just have a garbage link filled with nobody that plays as a team like my current link but even there it is possible. Though I suppose you could be playing during a dead timezone for the server too. I mean, I'm not sure why you would be posting on Discord unless it's your own guild or server discord. That would depend on the people that run it. I suppose some servers may have dysfunctional discords owned by a control freak or two. I had zero respect for mine and never joined it and the trash guild that made it left anyways. Well, I should be more specific, we had like 5-6 "server" discords and none were taken seriously. But it's just pretty weird this gets even brought up, though we don't have any context on the matter.
  11. If you are good enough of a scout, you can offer scouting in exchange for participation. This is actually a somewhat common practice with some of the larger tags. Although it should be known that any group of 5+ people can also do this, if they make a squad and at least one has a tag.
  12. I think the issue here is that people spend too much time blaming other people and less about what they could have done better. Heck, the self aggrandizing is in this very thread. If one truly thinks they have made no mistakes and can't improve, that's fine. Sometimes your server is garbage and there is nothing you can do. But in those cases this thread isn't exactly for them-- it's for people that want to learn so leave the emotional baggage out of here. But sometimes you have to recognize defending is a team effort, and work with others that have a similar mindset and goals, and this is true with whatever you do. Like yesterday I passed through our Anzalis and found someone working on the tower and draining supply. As our keep was under attack, and this tower was being trebbed, normally I would just let it flip. But since people were working on it I decided to humor it a bit and build ballista in a spot where the third server would definitely find some opportunistic groups to take the tower. And I also built 2 trebs to cow people running near the tower, because who the hell does that these days? If I was solo defending the tower, I would not be able to hold it vs a large group, because you physically cannot repair the wall fast enough while doing other things. So you have to pick your own fights and such. This is why I wrote in some cases it's better to simply die and just take the time to explain things to people while dead. Or at least go towards lord when you are out of combat. In a lot of cases it's not worth Ramboing a sufficiently large group and this is about risk management too. If you die and there is literally nobody in the objective left, then it is not worth it. Yes, you have to be alive to pull levers and such and throw disables. But in most cases, getting people to come to the keep is more important especially if you know you have backup and if it is really that bad, then there's no problem with pulling EWP early. (Later is far worse) If things are that marginal so that literally every second counts, then chances are you're losing that objective anyways. Good scouting is about prevention, not wrangling it out of last second warnings. And yes, this is a failure of the team as a whole as opposed to any one individual. One of our best scouts simply moves around between strategic locations and sometimes just parks where the enemy may go. In fact, we know where the enemy zerg is when we notice he's dead in squad and I guarantee you he is a better scout than most even though he is dead most of the time without saying much. 😆
  13. No, telling people that don't speak English, that they should speak English, is definitely a priority on an English speaking forum that they are definitely going to be bothering to read. And it's not like we don't have Spanish speakers in NA too....
  14. Part of being a good scout is learning to be a good defender. Unfortunately, that just doesn't entail just afking in a tower and riniging the bell when you see enemies, although it's a decent start. However, if you do not understand how WvW works and cannot work as an independent unit, you will never be good at scouting reports and depending on your attitude you'll get anywhere from getting ignored to having most of the server block you. Some of these things require experience and learning, and sadly a lot of people just scream at other people rather than learning. 1.) Knowing how to take a structure. The most basic thing you need to recognize is if a structure is under attack. That sounds obvious, but a lot of people don't actually seem to know how to take something. Capturing a structure requires the enemy to kill the lord and occupy the control circle. So don't freak out yet just because there's enemies outside a tower. You should know how fast the thing will fall without intervention. So if they put down 6 catapults down, you know this thing is going down fast. But if they have only 1 catapult and you are harassing it, you know you have some time. Oh, and obviously, keeps have an outer and inner to break down. If people only broke outer, that means they can't take the keep yet. Act accordingly. For these reasons, you do not just randomly ping any structure that has white swords, and you need to judge if the attacking force is actually a serious threat to taking the structure. While there is nothing wrong with reporting everything, please don't spam chat with irrelevant info. 2.) Knowing how to defend a structure. One of the signs that you are a bad scout is you just afk yelling for help when you could have just gotten on the oil or cannon and just deterred them as such. You cannot be like "Well, I am a scout; I don't do anything else". Well you could, but nobody will take you seriously. While there's actually a lot of knowledge that goes down to putting ballistas in the right spots or what not, you should definitely know how to shut down a half hearted attempt. And also report the event as such. In general, manuevers like siege disables can be risky, but ideally you should alter your build to be more able to do so. Stealth, mobility, and most definitely stunbreaks. But you should run a stunbreak if you're alone. 3.) Track the enemy movements. It's generally a good idea to guess where enemy players are headed towards, and what they plan to do. And no, pinging an objective they were at 2 minutes agodoesn't do it. Btw it's perfectly fine to make reports when you're lying dead. It may even be easier. If they're ganking players (especially you), feel free to make note if they're actively trying to kill your players and the general area so people may come together and fight as a group. A lot of people like never report this and then ragequit when they die like a million times asking "why no halp??" when nobody knows what they're ding.. And speaking of that... 4.) Tell people what are you doing This also seems like a missing art. Like if you say, I'm going to go scout Bay, then people will know they can scout something on the opposite side of the map. Or if you're going to build siege to take some tower, so people don't build some more on the other side. This may arguably be the most important thing to tell people, especially if you are getting rekt. Or, you can tell people that Fire keep has both walls down and it needs repairs, so people may help with that. 5.) Don't tunnel vision and read the map So imagine you're in an intense fight in a 1v2 at North Camp defending it,. and nobody is coming. You ping it for help and nobody comes. Then you get annoyed and pinging it a few more times. But still nobody? Why? Well, silly, look at your minimap. There's 2 sets of orange swords on your garrison and literally everyone went to defend it, and honestly why aren't you aware that garrison is under attack? Point is, know what's going on in the map, and do not expect people to come save your pet project when there's stuff elsewhere. A lot of times people will complain like EBG can't help or vice versa, but it turns out they are getting swamped to (or there's no one actually there). It's fine to ask if there are people doing stuff, but a lot of people just immediately assume the worse and that people are deliberately sipping tea while watching the maps burn.. And yes, you won't know everything on the map, unless you ask around. Which of course boils down to.... 6. Communicate with your team actively You must realize that your players (hopefully) are not bots or NPCs, and sometimes they don't know what you're thinking, and other times they won't agree with what you're doing. But this is fine. It's ideal to have some expectations of when to cooperate and not assume they will do the thing in your head. This is not just in gaming, but also anything really. A lot of times people will write something that makes sense in their head but they left out half the details to the public and nobody knows what they're talking about. People aren't psychic and will not waste time playing 20 questions with you. The good news is that if people know they can rely on you, then they're more likely to pay attention to your calls. The reverse is also true. If you keep spamming chat and people don't know wtf you're doing, then you will get ignored. 7. But most importantly, do not ragequit So sometimes when a objective is captured and the blame game will start. Like, don't start crying in chat about how we would have kept it if they listened to you, and you are no longer doing this because you are not appreciated or something. Come on now, nobody cares. The minimum age to play this game is at least 13, so please act appropriately. In the grand scheme of things, losing things is not the end of the world. In fact most objectives are meant to be flipped. Just work on what to do now instead of kittening over spilled milk. .
  15. Anet needs to step up with its rules enforcement. Even in PvE, there's an epidemic of afk farming/botting and it is no suirprise this kitten flies in WvW too. I do support temp map bans as a warning, and further more methods as needed. You already can afk for quite a while even without abusing such an exploit, so there is no excuse.
  16. If we didn't want you to do that, we'd do it first. And for the most part nobody will pay attention unless you die or set off the watchtower or something.
  17. I didn't do most of the PoF story , almost none of the EoD story, and none of the SotO story. But I have a skyscale via PoF, finished Dragon's End a few times, and can access most maps (with some help with a teleport to friend). I also have many APs from PoF/EoD. Like you can still explore most of the maps by doing a very minimal amount. I mean sure we could use some disconnect protection but that's another issue. Game already allows you to ignore most of the story, except some parts for mounts and such. And if you're worried about completionalism and min maxing the last bits of AP, then it's time to play like a completionist. You could tell them to write a better story and allow cutscene skipping, but that shouldn't mean playing the story shouldn't be required for stuff. It took me 8 years to finish the personal story, and I didn't actually have to do it. Can't think of many games that let you do that without penalty.
  18. What else are they gonna be used for? And it's not like strikes are per character.
  19. I feel like it should be obvious when a blob is just delaying the cap to farm bags. And indeed, some tags actually yell at people for trying to cap. For some reason Willbenders are pretty good at dps'ing scaled lords anyways. Just saying For the most part it's a good way to tell if the guild is trash though, if they're content with just farming the same 15 zombies that keep running in. Sometimes they're so lazy that they don't want to break in so I just tell people to leave them at the door and ignore them. That sometimes works On the other hand, it's pretty daft to see people not realize any of this. I can understand if they fall for it once or twice but the definition of getting farmed is to be a dummy and do the same thing over and over again expecting different results. But then again we've been telling people there are 3 exits out of EB (and it's not the only map) for years and that has fallen on deaf ears. Maybe I should be like a spvper and report them for being bad. But then again stupidity isn't a punishable offense, as most of humanity would be doomed Normally I would say to just moa pull snipe devs but then they'd just nerf mesmers again. This is why I do it on guardian; they certainly can't do it there can they?
  20. But I need pips though. Some people think tags demand players bring builds and crap, but that's the most important thing. I mean you gotta look at least winnable. If you're dead before I can get to you, then there is nothing. Also brb resupplying. (I have 23 supply.)
  21. Hmm, imagine using corpse explosion on your dead allies though, then rallybots would no longer be a huge negative. Funny enough I picked necromancer because minionmancer in Diablo 2 was great; was disappointing by the chicken wings in this game.
  22. Yep. ArcDPS logs are able to replay a battle in its entirety, with exact locations of players on the map at any given moment, where they went, and who was hit by what and what enemy players were there. It's actually kinda crazy the amount of information that is available, especially considering most games struggle to even have any kind of replay feature.
  23. Well, most of them were poopyheads and deserved it! Also, my character did, and not me. Then again I suppose I did support and encourage it, but those are just details. Then again incidentally in most games I tend to actually pick more morally questionable acts on my alts, because hey "my alt did it, not me!" Aka this is non-canon but we must view it for fun. Also back to the topic, I think one's character would be even more heroic because as opposed as they are to drinking, they're doing it to save the world! Or at least that's the spin I would write for myself.
  24. Even as someone that got their 10 weekly defenses by Tuesday, I think it's pretty bad. Sometimes it just doesn't give it. As a side note, I think 10 is a bit much for the weekly too, even assuming it did work perfectly. And yea OP is about the daily, but I can't imagine them being a fan of the weekly either. I think the main problem is the objective boundaries. So you drive someone out of your tower, but they jump out of it and you chase for a bit and kill them but it doesn't count because it's technically not in the objective. Or whatever rules it goes by. Who the kitten really knows? It'd be much more sensible if the objective's territory was the same as thei gliding area. Of course, I suppose someone will be like "omfg what if someone takes advantage of this with 10 alt accounts on the other server nd farms like this?" and to that I would say the game already knows to lower rewards for killing people that haven't been alive for too long, eg we already have a built in thing against inting. Sometimes there's also some weird kitten where I guess they're not categorized as an attacker because they didn't aggro guards/damage walls. Which kinda draws to the other problem. It shouldn't be dependent on stuff like that. If you kill an enemy player in an objective's territory, it should be considered defending instead of all this stuff you have no control over. I feel like removing repair credit was probably not the best idea. It was mostly targted at degens that would sit there all day repairing SMC outer walls, but they could have just tackled SMC directly or cooldowns on many times you can get credit. Ironically the best way to get it is still to camp SMC though I suppose it's somewhat more effort. Fundamentally, the problem is this thing is out of the player's control and is more dependent on the enemy's decisions. The closest thing to it will be killing enemy players, but that's usually much more flexible. But I'll give you the most optimal strategy. When you capture an enemy objective and you downed an enemy, just remember to not kill them until you capture it and wait til it triggers a defense; to make sure punt them into the guards. Surely this is great gameplay.
  25. WvW is less popular then it was back then because the game was more populated as a whole back then; this is an old game and there's always going to be attrition. Then again, they never report how many people are playing the game, and while it should be a lot, it's one of those things where people are judged guilty by omission. WvW was also a more accessible game mode; there's less barriers to entry and for the most part these days people expect you to have all the masteries leveled, while back then it wasn't expected because most people didn't have them. The mount is sideways, as while it creates an additional barrier to entry, but it also reduces the ease of being ganked once they have it. You could actually do stuff on an uplevel, but these days elites give too much of an advantage. The game as a whole as had so many mechanics topped on top of it, and a lot of them do not build on each other and prepare you for the next set because they just keep heaping more on without any rhyme or reason. Many aspects of the game are outdated and stuck in 2014, making it look abandoned. QoL features are nonexistent, though I suppose the entire game has that issues. One particular annoying thing is the increasing deluge of junk that pours into people's inventories. But they don't increase the storage space without a hefty fee. The game does very little to encourage people to do beyond the minimum. Certain defense activities like repairing or trebbing are definitely not worth the time to do in any sense. They also decided to be greedy in the monetization of templates so you have 1 equipment template per game mode But the worst thing is the game hasn't really fostered community building tools. It is inevitable that with that, communities began to decay. When WvWers and other groups like RPers begged Anet to at least keep cities as hubs for callouts, it fell on deaf ears, and then they upended the guild system to take away what people earned and sold it back to them in HoT-- it was a giant middle finger to the smaller guilds that were a large part of WvW. And some will argue it still happens. The only community hub we really have is paywalled, and oh you can test a build on a golem that doesn't even have any features like the raid ones have. What? So I guess that leads to the final question. People transfer because there's no reason to stay where they are. So when the matchups go bad, people don't think twice about leaving. And since it encourages gem sales, no reason to change things. While WvW has its own issues, I think the game itself as a whole doesn't do itself much favors at times, due to it really living in the past with archaic UI and poor QoL at times. There's also two types of toxic groups that I feel block change. One would be the typical group that drank the koolaid and think the game is flawless, but there's also the toxic casual group which is huge and actively despises gameplay that applies effort. I think there's a lot of overlap. Because of all these reasons, many in the WvW community have grown insular and xenphobic to new players. This happens with any aging game, because veteran players sometimes fail to remember what it was like being a new player and thus flame new ones for not knowing stuff they "should" know. However, in this case, the decay is much worse that a lot of WvWers seem detached from the rest of the gw2 community, and actively hate it when they see people they perceive as outsiders coming in. This is often seen during event weeks. You end up with a situation where people utterly lack social graces to anyone outside of their social circles. Such as fight guild/lingo memes in /t. It's pretty damned cringe at times but it gets normalized. Which sometimes can make WvW seem cringe. And then there's all that BM towards new players and sometimes just people asking questions. Or just general weird edgy/offensive jokes that aren't really that edgy because it's overused and thus the edge fell off. And this also leads to a death spiral where normal people come in, and witness nothing but cringe. And then they leave.
