  1. Pretty much agree with everything that has been said in the first post. Very nice read, thanks 😄
  2. I'm not complaining about lag or ping delays, those don't happen to me either. It's frames per second, the rate at which the game refreshes each moment to moment picture you see, that crawl to a snails pace in the environment of convergences (and big metas). Unless your internet connection somehow affects your fps. Is this the case?
  3. On the other hand, outfits can already hide their head piece. Shouldn't be hard to make that a seperate toggle from the armor headpiece toggle to allow you the freedom of having armor headpiece + outfit body visible.
  4. Heya. I find convergences nearly unplayable due to heavy performance drops. Going down to 15 and below fps once everyone gathers for the final boss fight. I changed the preset to 'best performance' so all settings went to low. I put model limit and quality both to lowest. Still 15 fps. Is there anything more I can do or is that simply a limitation of the game that it can't run smoothly with this many players? My GPU / CPU aren't the newest, but should still be decent for a gaming rig. Intel i7-9700k + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 Super. Also in my latest convergence I had a weird bug that started after I was downed once. All the sound effects other than the BGM disappeared, and the BGM kept playing constantly even after leaving the convergence and going to different maps. Messing with sound settings didn't affect it at all, even the 'mute while in background' didn't mute the BGM when I tabbed out. Really weird. Only fixed on restarting the game.
  5. Press the randomize appearance button on wardrobe until you see something you like, then adjust any single pieces that don't quite match the look. Best I can suggest with nothing to go on with about what kind of look you want to go for.
  6. If you're that new the game, why already destroy your fun with expectations of what will or won't be viable in raids down the road? Do you feel like you're already at the doorstep of raids and have to worry about that? Just enjoy the game for now and play whichever weapons and builds are fun to you. There's plenty of time later on to worry about what's effective in the harder content once you get there. You can try out the various elite specs, different weapon combos or also other classes. Maybe if thief doesn't offer a meta build you're happy with, you may find one in another class. It may be possible to play off-meta builds in raids and strikes if you play your class well and the dps difference isn't too huge compared to the recommended meta weapons. A good player that knows the ins and outs of his class may quite likely outperform an average or bad player that just copies a meta build but doesn't really understand how to play it well, even on a non-meta weapon choice (if it doesn't happen to be a support weapon with nearly non-existent damage). Also if you find a nice guild or discord, just a circle of people that you befriend and get along with, they may not mind doing harder content with off-meta build choices. I don't really know thief well enough to tell you how big a dps difference it would make. My main advice is to not worry about it too much for now. Worry about raid builds when you get to raids. There's also other instanced content like strikes and fractals, each having a quite low barrier of entry where it doesn't matter much to play a sub-optimal build to get started. Just looking at a build site, there are a few options that use dagger/dagger for a few builds both pvp and pve. Here, if you wanna check them out: https://hardstuck.gg/gw2/builds/thief/
  7. I wouldn't call it bad gameplay to focus on burning. It's not optimal for dps of course, but depending on the player it may be a good choice to go for a low intensity build. A lesser skilled player with lower apm may end up pulling more dps with a low intensity build that lets them focus more on the fight mechanics than running a more involved build and doing more mistakes. But that's kinda opinion based and offtopic anyhow, so I'll leave it at that ^^
  8. Just curious if someone can tell me which if any builds use Grieving as their optimal dps set? I always thought it looks really strong for a power build with built-in condis. But when I tried it on ele which I thought to be a great candidate on it (cause a lot of the power skills have burning on it and it gets free burn duration + runes of baltha) it always turned out worse than pure power or pure condi - though that may be due to lack of skill in power rotations on my end. Would 5 stat sets add interesting options? 2 major 3 minor with just overall less stats on each to have the same total as other stat sets. Like major power + condi, minor precision ferocity expertise for the ultimate hybrid dps stats. Or a more allrounder heal combo that is two steps removed from celestial. Major heal + concentration with minor vitality + toughness + (power or condi).
  9. Oh yeah. If you don't do instanced group content, really any build can work. You don't need big dps for open world or story. Throw on celestial gear, put on staff if its the weapon you enjoy most and play the elite spec you find most enjoyable. Personally I find tempest most enjoyable and easier to play than the other two. For a more offensive build, fire traitline offers the most for both power and condi dmg. Air can boost your power damage with crits and fury, and optionally run fresh air for some fun interactions (spaming air overload on tempest, or easier energy generation on cata through the more frequent attune swaps). Arcane traitline has a nice mix of offense, utility and defense. The arcane shielding traits make you a lot more robust in chaotic situations if you can trigger them frequently with the summon elemental elite. As support though am a big fan of the revive trait to get others up quickly (which you get double use of if you run staff). Earth traits if you lean more towards condi damage and want to be tankier or just enjoy using signets a lot and want to keep their passives while on cooldown. And finally water if you enjoy healing or want more self sustain. Great for supporting yourself or others and keeping people alive. It does have some traits that boost power dmg or to put vulnerable stacks on enemies. Also if you're a fan of the alac or quickness boons (cd reduction / action speed) you can do that with the right traits on tempest or catalyst - though keeping quickness up on catalyst can be a bit of a challenge to learn and a bit painful in open world content in my experience. tldr: You don't have to restrict yourself to meta builds if you don't do group content where performance matters. Experiment, be free to try out what you enjoy. And celestial gear is great for any ele build if you're not trying to get top numbers out of it.
  10. Dunno about staff being drastically less effective than dagger horn. You lose a bit of boon duration but can still have full uptime on all important boons if you play it well. Having more than 100% uptime only matters in rare situations. Might is easy to max out even with staff if you properly blast combo your fire fields. Staff's main advantage is ranged heals, ranged revive (water 3 with trait), more stability and aoe frost aura (10% dmg reduction on top of protection) + tons of stability from earth 3. Warhorn dagger has easier boon upkeep, overkill amount of might, and more mobility. Not sure how they compare in heal amount, but both felt decent to me with the amount of burst healing they can do in water. Played both in all strikes and a bunch of raids.
  11. Heal-alac tempest can use staff quite effectively. Great boon coverage (except fury unless you give an entire traitline up for it), ranged heals, strong revives nice passive and potent burst heals. Not much cc though, but has a little. And can have permanent stability uptime if you use the earth aura burst skill (staff earth 3) well. Short bursts of superspeed, an aoe stunbreak, on demand stability or aegis (just in limited amounts). Though the downside is having to rotate through elements and overloads to keep up alac yet knowing when you need to have water available for heals.
  12. Your list made me think of something - Chronomancer's Continuum Split would quite benefit from a visual indicator about when it automatically snaps you back in time. In the heat of battle you may miss how many clones exactly were eaten to affect its duration or a sudden mechanic that makes you move may make you forget that it's still active and then snaps you back to your previous position or you simply can't estimate the seconds it's active accurately. A little Clock UI element that finishes a full circle at the time Continuum Split ends (or just an ammunition-like border around the skill that indicates the same - though may be more confusing at first) could be quite helpful. I know you can also just manually end the split early if you remember to do so, good or great chrono players may not need such an indicator. Would still be helpful for most though I assume.
  13. Since legendary armor is pretty much a long term project, may be worth first playing the classes and builds that interest you in exotic gear to see what you enjoy playing. Simply going by general ease of use or potency in group content won't mean anything if you end up not enjoying the gameplay of the class. If you somehow end up making the legendary armor before really trying out the classes/builds that use that weight type you may end up wasting all that time amd resource investment.
  14. For cheap exotics, check out the NPC south of Fort Mariner Waypoint in Lion's Arch - behind the big red fractal gate. His name is 'Lionguard [Merchant]'. He charges around 60 silver to 1g depending on the piece for any exotic gear piece (armor + trinkets + weapons) and 50-100 of the WvW currency 'Badges of Honor'. I know you mentioned you don't like WvW, but you actually get this currency from regular gameplay too. Depending on how much you've already played, you may have some without even knowing it. Every 500 achievement points on your account rewards you with a chest that contains 100 badges of honor amongst other stuff. If you find you have some of that WvW currency or hit a 500-achievement point mark soon, it may help to fill a hole or two in your desired gear. It even has exotic backpiece and aquabreather, which can otherwise be a bit difficult or expensive to aquire. And any piece you buy from that npc is fully stat selectable, so you can choose any stat combo from any expansion.
  15. Heya. As the dev team is aware of from the new weapon preview feedback and also mentioned it in the release notes, putting mechanic-related info in the overloaded bar of UI icons just doesn't really work. It's not visible enough and makes it very hard to track important info about the state of certain mechanics. Like elementalist pistol, being able to tell which elemental bullets are up. Or ranger's maces, to be able to tell how many stacks towards nature's strength you already have. There are likely other examples of mechanics that would benefit from a clearly visual UI element that makes it easy to see their state or progress at a glance. Feel free to suggest any additional profession or weapon mechanics where a clearly visual UI element would be very helpful for keeping track of mechanic-related info. Now my suggestion is to add an additional graphical UI element that can be toggled on or off in settings and possibly be customized by moving it anywhere on the screen where it fits well. Either by the dev team themselves, or if they can't spare the resources for it, just implement an API that can read the state of such mechanics to allow modders to design a small overlay UI element that fulfills this function of visual clarity. As an example for what such an UI element could look like, I recommend looking at how FF14 designed their Job Gauges which are small UI elements that let a player easily keep track of their class specific resources. Additionally they each have two versions, a flavorful one and a simplified one that takes less space. Here a link for the example: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/uiguide/know/know-hud/hud_jobhud_settings.html I don't know what's more realistic to implement or how likely it is that the dev team deems this important enough to work on it. They do seem aware of it from the communications about the new weapons, yet haven't really changed much about it from the initial preview feedback until release. Would be great to hear from arenanet themselves if this is something they plan to work on or if they think its too unimportant to pay much attention to it.
  16. Personally I'd prefer they move away from Kryptis and do something more directly tied to Tyria and existing lore. A lot of SotO felt very disconnected from the story so far, which I guess was intentional. But made it harder to stay interested and invested as it went on. Zojja was the only thing keeping me somewhat interested, then she got her magical lobotomy and the rest was meh so far.
  17. Another note about that build regarding yesterdays patch: Arcane power's way to apply burning from self and allies through the arcane traitline has been removed. So arcane has little to no benefit for condi builds now, thus earth is likely always better.
  18. There's a worse nerf for that build in the patch notes. Arcane power + grandmaster trait no longer gives any burning, which was previously a big burst of burn applied by you and 4 allies.
  19. A recent experience makes me agree with the initial post of this topic. A setting that prevents random players from whispering you or sending you mails would be very appreciated. I don't really want to receive mails from players I didn't add to my friendlist first. Some guy seriously bothered to make an alt char (with an obvious throwaway name like Abdferwefe) just to send me a harrassment mail and then block me so I couldn't even respond. Because I wrote a 'vomit inducing response' in a convergence squad chat when they were talking about players being afk (my chat line was pretty much 'if you meant me standing around a bit, I was just afk for 30sec to write a cute wake-up text to my bf'). Like.. I don't mind if some dude wants to block me for that, am happy to never have contact with such a person. But having to read their harrassment mail after they already blocked me was a very negative experience and seems like quite toxic behavior.
  20. There's this neat little thing called communication when forming groups for content like higher fractals. People don't just go by assumption what you should be playing with which elite spec. Usually they recruit specific roles for their group, having a alac/quick heal and a boon dps of the other type if its required or recommended for the difficulty of the content. Now what you can do when joining a group, is simply stating what build you play as soon as you join. 'Hi, dps' is enough to let them know that you're not a healer and don't bring boons - then they can tell you if that's fine or if they still need to fill one of the other roles. Just learn and play a build you're comfortable with, then find a group (or make your own) that is in need of the role that build fulfills. If you frequently get personally mentioned as not doing the expected amount, be that not enough dps or no boons - perhaps you should practice and learn your build better at a lower difficulty of content before attempting the higher tiers. It's also possible it's not just you and just the group overall being messy and people are looking to blame someone when things don't go well, though can't really tell what's really the case unless you use arcdps yourself and are confident about your performance. tldr, my main three pieces of advice: 1) Communicate your role when joining a group. 2) Play a build you enjoy, then learn to play it well 3) If you struggle to perform at higher difficulty, practice in lower difficulty first
  21. Sounds great. Coming from tempest and scourge, I really miss having nothing to improve my ability to revive on support mesmer/chrono. Would be a neat improvement 😄
  22. "And do I feel like I really contributed to anything?" How do you ever feel like that in a '1 in a blob of 50' event? Unless you run arcdps and see how much dmg you actually dealt or how much boons you dished out, how would you tell if your presence contributed anything? (or you play scourge and can easily tell how many downed players you rescue-pulled towards you ^^) I'm a support player and mainly played heal tempest, the new rifle motivated me to try out heal chrono. Having a blast with it and easily carrying groups through fractals or keeping people or friends alive during the more deadly meta events. While the portal gimmick rarely 'contributes' something important, I found it really fun to just drop the rifle portal while running ahead in a fractal then blink-teleporting further ahead and be happy if someone took the portal to suddenly be same up with me - others seemed to enjoy that too. Sure over half the time the portal goes unused, but I think as time passes more people will notice it exists and make use of it. It's not really necessary or changes much, but it's fun. I know, weird to appreciate something just for being fun in a game 😄
  23. There's nothing you 'have to' grind. You can just play whichever content is fun to you. Getting a full set of exotics doesn't cost much and can be aquired in various ways, through pretty much any game modes you enjoy. Most content isn't gated by gear, though it would be good to have a full set of exotics with a proper build if you want to dive into harder content. Fractals are the one thing that gets really gated by gear, cause you requrie agony resistance for higher tiers which can only be slotted into ascended quality gear - but entry level fractals up to scale 20 can be done quite easily and without any agony resist.
  24. Can you (or someone) explain this to me? Am trying to learn heal chrono but struggling a bit with the quick/alac uptime. You say mantra of recovery generates 3 clones every 10 or so seconds, but I don't see clones mentioned anywhere on the mantra? Edit: nvm, found the trait ^^
