    The problem is that I can't answer that, because of the entire argument I've been making from the beginning of this thread:

    ArenaNet doesn't lay any proper foundation for why the ending of Champions: Judgment occurs the way it does.

    By the laid foundation we're given, then the world should be facing cataclysm due to the act of killing Primordus and Jormag (and, in fact,  the very clash itself should have wiped out a third of the Shiverpeaks - that's why the Six Gods decided to leave rather than fight, to prevent a second Crystal Sea-to-Crystal Desert situation).

    The only way to explain it, is to take the player assumption that Kralkatorrik's very vague words means Aurene can handle balancing all magic by herself. The issue is that there is no allusion that "handling conflicting magic" means "handling high quantities of magic" or "replacing the need of four Elder Dragons alone".

    Most players only come to that conclusion because of out-of-character reasoning and explanations, such as "Anet can't end the world as that ends the game" (something Tom Abernathy himself said with War Eternal Guild Chat). Which means despite the actions and foreshadowing, that everything will be okay because, basically, the planet has plot armor.

    And that's the way I interact with the lore.

    Everything from S4 and before says A should happen but then in Champions, B happens. So then the reason must be XYZ.

    I guess I'm just trying to express how I interact with the lore. Am I wrong for greatly enjoying it this way?

    I don't see how one can theorycraft with any weight without using past lore pieces as part of the puzzle. Because if you don't, then you can just theorize anything at all, without weight to consistency or canon.

    To me, your first and your second comment are directly contradictory to each other. Because "how can I wrap the different strands of lore together" is the same exact thing as "how can I make the past lore pieces make sense together".

    Sorry about that. I'm saying I don't like (or care for) theorycrafting about future stuff.

    Hypothetically, my thought is this: if Champions Part 4 was the last content for lore, what would your in-universe (that's key) explaination for different lore subjects that occured up to that point.

  3. I love these posts like these! Here are two I have:

    1. The Jotun Scroll Asgeir and Braham used was harnessed from Primordus's fire magic.

    2. Braham using the scroll is what gave him his 'connection' to Primordus.

    I find it very unlikely for ArenaNet to retain references to what is ultimately a very small mention several years ago. Because they seldom do anymore

    I'm saying I don't care if they do or not. I'm not using past lore pieces as part of a puzzle to theorycraft on the future.

    I view it like this—if the game stopped right now—how can I wrap the different strands of lore together.

    Do you view things differently?

    Right, its totally a giant blob of petrified Fixodent or a perfectly evenly melted section of tusk instead of the gum line of the tooth that Anet originally billed it as and they forgot to model it with clamps instead of bolts.  What ever was I thinking.

    If we're going to be pedantic of the visuals, then why would there be visible gums if Asgeir knocked the fang out of Jormag's mouth? Gums are not connected to teeth that way. The interpretation is flawed from the very beginning.

    -snip-

    So I find these points can be grouped into two categories: things not mentioned again and things changed.

    Things not mentioned again:

    * The lost dagger

    * Multiracial Zaishen

    * Branded and Awakened variety

    On the things not mentioned again. I don't need them to be mentioned or shown again. Their introduction to the lore is enough for me. The lost dagger gives me cultural lore on how the people around Balthazar view him. It shows me thier practices on how they appease him; the way they honor him. I don't need nor expect the dagger to ever come up again. In fact, I like it that way.

    When it comes to the multiracial zaishen, I think it is important to note that EVERYTHING has a real-world reasoning and a lore reasoning behind it. Here they want a story about the fervor and fanaticism surrounding Balthazar, so having only human zaishen is the best way to go.

    To me, the fervor and fanaticism around Balthazar leading to only humans showing up in Path of Fire is a logical step. I get what you're asking for. You want an NPC or a note outright saying this; that with Balthazar's return the Zaishen pushed away the non-humans or broke off. I don't need that. Connecting the points is not only enough, but the best part of the lore for me.

    Same for the branded and awakened. I don't need to see more branded dredge, or thralls etc. They are in the lore; thats cool.

    Things changed:

    * Kralkatorrik's colour

    * Fang of the Serpent

    * Caithe's collection

    The things changed, however, are points where I agree with you a bit more. At this point, its important to understand that games lend itself to restrictions or changes.

    The fang was concieved as a tooth; but they might of found the design of Jormag with a missing tooth goofy or less intimidating or a any other reason. So it was changed. In the hierarchy of canon I place the latest stuff over older stuff.

    Kralkatorrik's colour would have clashed with past dragons. Maybe they wanted to use a different colour palette and have haromy with the design of the Dragonbrand.

    Every game's lore I ever participated in had a hierarchy of canon, because conflicts are a natural and expected part of a shared universe. And on top that you also have to make concessions towards gameplay, art direction, technology limitations, budget etc.

    My Hierarchy of Canon:

    1. Newest released content takes precedence over older content.

    2. Critical/golden path content takes precedence over non-critical/golden path content.

    3. Text lore takes precedence over visual/asset lore.

    4.  In-game lore takes precedence over blog posts, short stories, and novels.

    5. Blog posts, short stories, and novels take precendence over forum posts and interviews.

    6. Forum posts and interviews take precedence over dev answers and comments on personal venues (twitter etc).

    Not into Speculative Lorebuiding:

    Lastly I want to state that I don't really care much for speculating about the story or lore that might happen in the future. I don't find it fun or fulfilling (for any game not just Guild Wars 2). But I LOVE the lore and world-building.

    I would very much rather create posts about the lore and how it connects to each other after the fact. How to take the messy lore of a video game and connect it for my own fun. I find throwing my hands up and saying "the devs won't remember this, so it doesn't matter" to be boring. I will repeat, even if that is true, I find it boring.

    For example, if I make a post about Sanguinary Blade shows the effects of the Blood of Jormag and how that connects to the conversion chambers of the Frost Legion, I don't care if the devs didn't think of that. It is my job for myself to connect dots.

    Thing is, I kind of doubt that ArenaNet remembers this, as there are a lot of small details lost or outright changed

    I guess this is where I disagree. I've read a lot of your views about the various 'details lost or outright changed' and find myself disagreeing with your interpretations. What I find to be either logical or contexually explained, you don't.

    I don't think devs forget the details; they just develop or go in a direction that don't make sense to you. I feel you and the devs are on different wavelengths, and thats fine.

    It was not vague at all

    in a story journal most players ignore is sufficient writing

    I am talking about my views, just as you can only talk about yours. What "most players" do is data you and I will never have.

    Ben: Jeff, I really don't get what our players want. They complain all the time.

    Jeff: Wait, they are being serious? I thought they were just yanking our chain. Look, sales are up.

    and that is why in order to keep their sanity, the developers should listen as little as possible to random forum demands and opinions.

    Gamers on forums and subreddits (and the internet in general) tend to REALLY overestimate the size of their group.

    Aurene: Energy this volatile... I fear my presence would only exacerbate things...

    Story Journal: I urged Aurene to join the fight, but she declined. In her view, having a third Elder Dragon meddling with volatile magic could destabilize everything further.

    Anyone with knowledge of guild wars lore is bound to find the storyline of this saga ridiculous. Let's not even talk about the players of the first guild wars, it is literally a scenaristic humiliation for the work of former developers

    I keep track and up to date with all lore in the Guild Wars franchise. I have played all of Guild Wars 1. And I completely and utterly disagree with you. I dont find the storyline of this saga "ridiculous" and "a scenaristic huminilation".

    It's a bit like the end of games of thrones, with such a level of scriptwriting there is no longer any subjectivity.

    In Seasons 1 and 2, it's stressed that ley-lines are rare occurrences

    No, in Season 2 the implication is that leylines are quite common, running through all waypoints.

    Quote

    Taimi: When we asura placed the waypoints, some worked better than others, so we got rid of the ones that didn't work and kept those that did.
    Player: They worked better when placed on a ley line.
    Taimi: Correct. Without even realizing what we were doing, we tapped into the power of the ley lines. And it's no longer just theory. I can prove it now.

    Since the waypoints that weren't placed on a ley line didn't work, then the ones that we see are the ones that are placed on a leyline. And since there are waypoints all over the place, so are leylines. Leylines are like veins and arteries through the Tyria. They are relatively common.

    Yes, and intersections meaning where they meet, which would indicate the (approximate) middle, but it's far north of any DRM (with two exceptions - Doric and Fireheart).

    An intersection does not need to be equidistant from all points.

    Also, Taimi doesn't imply there is only one intersection. But the story journal does imply there to be many,

    Quote

    so the key would be to find a nexus where ley lines intersect and lure them to that spot

    Even the self destruction of two dragons caused absolutely nothing except a small hole in the ground. So you can imagine that this underground movement did not cause anything..

    Arena has forgotten all his lore. The defeaf of Abbadon had created the desolation but 2 dragons absolutely nothing ...

    That's because the fallout from the clash was relatively conatined. The damage caused (which I don't think is small either way) was the contained "explosion". In lore, the story journal says,

    Quote

    "They'd collided in a huge spectacle of light and magic, leveling anything in range."

    And in Champion's End, Rytlock remarks,

    Quote

    Rytlock: If this was the dragons contained...

    Aurene says,

    Quote

    Aurene: I tried to contain the desolation. But I could not stop it.

    But that doesn't mean it wasn't relatively conatined, because she then says,

    Quote

    Aurene: I braced myself to absorb it all, but most of it went elsewhere.

    and the story journal says,

    Quote

    We'd figured that Aurene had absorbed their magic, but we were wrong.

    In conclusion, even with Aurene attempting to contain the fallout and the intervention of another party, the damage was still enough to level anything in range.

    Guess there weren't any more attacks that needed me

    I'd like to imagine the Commander was fighting off attacks throughout the months inbetween the ones we play through.

    It is nebulous. But I feel the broad timeline still works. For example, Icebrood Saga started in the end of 1332 and ended first quarter of 1334 (the story journal states 1333, but I think thats because Champions is categorised as one episode as started then). But, yeah, the details are nebulous.

    Second, 18 months of real time do not equal in-universe time.

    I have nothing to say on this anymore, since its just everyone giving their subjective opinions, but this line is wrong. Since, at least, Season 1, the world passes at the same rate as our own.

    nope , my previous coment you replied, was regarding the poll that was shutdown, where the overwelming majority of players that voted actualy consideded the patch to be pure trash or didnt actualy bothered to play it and a very low amount of players found it good

    In that case I want to apologise for jumping the gun. But I hope people understand that a poll conducted on the forums is inherently not going to give an accurate view of a playerbase. Its too small of a sample size and way too self-selecting.

    How do you know those statistics? Do you have access to some analytics that we don't know about?
