  1. Didn't Ascalon originally belong to the Charr? Then the humans came in and kicked them out. The Charr ruled under the Flame Legion were super awful and evil, but I thought it was established as far back as GW1 that the Charr assaulted Ascalon in part to reclaim their homeland.
  2. It’s a fairly sizeable area of land they managed to wall off. I think there are three maps that have portions of the wall: lions arch, kessex hills, and caledon forest. Maybe even bloodtide coast? Not sure. It’s a big area behind those walls though (not just a city).
  3. @HisRoyalDudeness.8637How do you get such good, dynamic screenshots? ToT
  4. Side note: could they update “Elonian Debs” with some of the PoF hair?
  5. Since her appearance is dependent on player choice and/or randomly assigned if you did not choose the “dead sister” origin, I’m not sure how difficult her returning to the story would be programming wise. But I do think Deborah deserves a bit more attention. She’s either the human PC’s sister, or the commander knows her from chapter 8 of their personal story (in which she worked with you and lost the man she loved to Zhaitan). It’s just weird to me to know my character has a sister, but apparently I haven’t heard from her in years. If Lord Faren can be such a prominent reoccurring character in the GW2 canon, originating from the noble human PS, I feel like Debs deserves a chance for more spotlight. There are a lot of great characters in the PS that disappeared (like Malyck aaahhhdxbktinvkns). I love the story and the characters too muuucchhh. (Also please don’t pull another Demmi, my heart can’t take it...)
  6. If anyone has played SWTOR, I am thinking more in line with that than what GW1 provided with Heroes.
  7. @BunjiKugashira.9754 Thank you for expressing so eloquently what I did not. Your thoughts/ideas are wonderful. I can't say I've forged any lasting relationship with players in GW2 unless I knew them outside the game. I feel like a companion system helps people personally/emotionally invest in the game to some degree - which I realize will sound like complete bonk to some players, but for many it's very much true. And perhaps the GW1 companion system was flawed - personally I disagree - but you can't say those characters weren't pretty beloved. There's a reason why they are referenced in GW2 so frequently. In my mind, the value of a companion system is far less about combat and more about relationships and story, and the sense of connection a player develops with said companion. It's why I love roleplaying games in the first place, especially games like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Jade Empire, KOTOR, BG2, etc. I think this kind of system appeals to a certain demographic, and one that's fairly prevalent in RPG games like GW2. Sure, it might not be meaningful to players that prefer PvP or WvW, but that's why elite specs are often so geared toward PvP/WvW while things like gliders, mounts, etc are there for PvE exploration and navigation.
  8. I do prefer the solo play, always have since GW1. If I’m exploring the maps or doing story instances I’m generally not going to party up unless I have to for something like bounties and meta events. There’s not a lot of aspects of PvE that forces you to play with other people, and I don’t think this will change it that much. I loathed how much I needed a party to progress through the story of GW1 because either they were jerks, or they had no ability to coordinate and/or listen (I mained a monk). Like @zidane.5194 mentions, this would be nice for certain modes to make them more doable. I don’t imagine these heroes would enable you to solo a legendary enemy or anything, and they could very easily be blocked from certain situations/modes like mounts and gliders.
  9. just because you 'like' companion systems doesn't mean it's a good idea.Just because you don’t doesn’t mean it isn’t.
  10. General note: my concept of this is more akin to Star Wars: The Old Republic's (SWTOR) companion system than GW1's Heroes. I had an idea for a “Heroes" system for PvE wherein you can "recruit" certain NPCs into Dragon's Watch and add one or two of them to your party at a time. This seems like the kind of concept they could build a mastery system around for an expansion, with perks and bonuses to you and those heroes when they're in your party. Perhaps a “commander" mastery that makes their AI smarter as you level. A mastery to be able to edit/swap out their skills or weapons, maybe runes, etc. A mastery to improve their armor and/or weapon rating (rare to exotic, etc). I could see a tactics system similar to that found in Dragon Age, were you can set up commands and prompts for your companions AI to follow when certain conditions arise. Altogether this Heroes system would be very customizable, and ANet could have a core set of recruitable characters and perhaps release new ones periodically. I'd err on the side of creating original companions for this though, or using non-Dragon’s Watch members as your "Heroes." Despite liking them a lot, it'd probably neuter their ability to do anything with them storywise (kill them off, leave Dragon's Watch, change form somehow, etc). The recruitable heroes can just be incidental and non-crucial to the plot of GW2, so they're just kind of tagging along with you. Would totally love them to be voiced and have personalities and such though, maybe dialogue chains or personal quests you can take them on (maybe to get cooler armor skins for them, or better weapons, etc). Could be very interactive and fun. I think there are a lot of existing characters that could work really well for this. Ones that were relevant at one time in the story, then kind of faded from the plot despite popularity. Some ideas:MalyckLord FarenPhluntSayeh al' RajihdDeborahLiviaSyaSurviving Destiny’s Edge membersOgden StonehealerAny of the SunspearsNPCs from your Order It’s also an opportunity to include characters from NPC races and “lesser” races like Tengu, Largos, Skritt, Hylek, Quaggan, Kodan, Centaurs, etc. Heck, even some kind of liberated Awakened (bring back Demmi or Belinda!) There’s also options from the custom personal story like your Charr’s warband, Asura’s crewe, etc. That might be harder to pull off, but I think there are so many NPCs that could be brought back for a much deserved second chance with this kind of feature.
  11. In line with the topic of Tengu~ I think they could be added to the game in some unique ways, but they'd either take A LOT of work to implement OR their implementation would be less than ideal. I think the simplest way is to add them in an expansion, and have the "Tengu" characters canonically joining the story of GW2 around the time of the new expansion (meaning this character could not have participated in the Zhaitan arc). The Tengu's personal story and starting areas would be contained within the Dominion of Winds. The personal story could span the years the Tengu lived within their walls as stuff happened in the world around them; political strife or something or other that your character is involved in. Eventually something happens that forces them to work with the other races, so they open their gates (or they are literally destroyed by something). They could even have an arc where they pick an order because their Emperor wants his people to build relationships with the other races now that they must ally, and I'm sure all the orders would be hungry for Tengu members for one reason or another. If a Tengu character wants to play through the plot of Zhaitan, HoTs, PoF, etc they could just do what they did in GW1 and say "these events happened before you joined the world" and you're more or less witnessing them from somewhere else. Could be some sort of hardlight device built by the Asura - basically some kind of VR experience. That's not exactly desirable but might be the best way to give Tengu a personal story. If they wanted to infuse them into Zhaitan arc and beyond, they would have to write a lot of original story content for a large portion of the vanilla personal story. BUT it could work if your Tengu character is "exiled" from the Dominion of the Winds. That way you can get the boot as the personal story begins, and you have an original Tengu exile story leading through the Zhaitan arc and onward. That would involve so much work though. I don't think they'll do it. At best I could see Dominion of Winds becoming a Living World or expansion map, and having the Tengu infused in the plot (maybe even getting a new Tengu character in Dragon's Watch). I don't think that area is big enough to be multiple maps, but you never know. They could always retcon the size like they tend to do in updates sometimes. But you'd have the Emperor's palace/city, and perhaps a territory for each of the four Houses. So that's potentially five maps for a starting area. IDEK
  12. I could see them adding a "Heroes" kind of system to PvE wherein you can "recruit" certain NPCs into Dragon's Watch and add one or two of them to your party. They could build a mastery system around something like that, perks and bonuses to you and those heroes when they're in your party. Maybe some sort of "commander" mastery that makes their AI smarter as you level. I'd err on the side of creating original companions for this though, vs having the main Dragon's Watch members be your "Heroes." Despite liking them a lot, it'd probably neuter their ability to do anything with them storywise (kill them off, leave Dragon's Watch, change form somehow, etc). Could be very interactive. Player housing could make sense as an expansion feature, but personally I don't think they could sell an expansion off player housing alone (but hey, I could be wrong). New playable race would be the next "big thing" they could do that they haven't done already. I'd rather they focus on making elite specs over a new class because the Revenant didn't pan out very well imo. Otherwise the only movement based thing we don't have is true flight and underwater movement. I could definitely see them building an expansion off revamped underwater gameplay/content and creating a series of masteries for underwater play. But I think ANet gave up on under stuff so that seems unlikely (despite it seeming necessary for Bubbles). BUT anyway, this is a Tengu thread. Should probably keep it on topic. xD
  13. @Aaron Ansari.1604 That actually helps a lot. I didn't realize how devastated the coastal settlements were when Zhaitan rose. And I guess I didn't factor in the idea that the tsunami that brought them to Tyria also destroyed O.G. Lion's Arch. @Oenanthe.6549 I do imagine they'll come into play somehow in the story. Either as a new playable race (probably unlikely) or that the Living World storylines will bring us to the Dominion of Winds eventually. If I were a betting man, I'd say something will happen there eventually where they'll be desperate enough to ask for help and finally open their gates. Otherwise, I could definitely see them becoming antagonists. Mysterious territory with a mysterious Emperor? Definitely some sinister vibes there.
  14. I was thinking about Tengu today, and I wondered - what was it like during the period the Tengu arrived and built their new home? Was the land given to them, or did they simply arrive and declare the land theirs? I can't seem to find any information on this. Many races were displaced by the dragons - Tengu by Zhaitan respectively - and most have either joined the community of lion's arch or spread out into other areas. Tengu are the only ones to truly show up and claim their own territory, and they went to great lengths to keep themselves secluded/isolated by building a wall around their land. Apparently they have an Emperor and noble houses in there. What's most intriguing to me though is that there was apparently no strife with their arrival and claiming of this land? No one cared that they came and built their "Dominion" right next to a major city? Is there some obscure piece of lore I'm missing where the Tengu already had claim to that land, or that it was otherwise gifted to them?
  15. Would love to see something like this. Bonus points if they can add some extra fluff (flowers, leaves, etc) to them. Sort of like the caladbolg regrown skins? All leafy and glowing, butterflies swirling around it. Would look nice.
  16. This game needs more banana hammocks in general
  17. Only if they make an equally sexy/provocative version for male characters. Give me pecs and bulges. :P
  18. Okay, let's try this with imgur!
  19. My mesmers Chaed (pronounced 'shade') and Hanzo (my Hun-inspired norn). edit: can't figure out how to get the image to show. -_-
  20. My charr is pretty muscular too though. It's his size sets him apart if he was normal human size. It wouldn't look right. Can I custom his size still later on right? Do I need pay gems for it? Unfortunately you will need to pay gems to change their height. It’s 350 for the make over kit. That being said, the makeover kits do offer some exclusive face and hair options, as well as eye and hair color. So if you do wanna change it down the line you’ll have more options. Both of my charr (Elem and Nec) are max height. Elem is skinny, Nec is pretty beefy. I’ve never had a problem with their height. The biggest issue with Charr is their armor textures tend to look very stretched out and awkward. :/ Still you can make some cool looking armors by mixing and matching skins. I’d post mine if I could right now.
  21. The only race I think can be “too” anything are norn, which would be “too short.” Literally nothing sets them apart from humans aside from their height...
  22. I would like to see GW3 eventually, in the sense that I’d like to see this setting’s world and lore continue to expand and develop. GW is the only mmo franchise I’ve ever really gotten into! And of course I’d love to see GW evolve with the times and update its mechanics and graffics in a 3rd flagship game someday. However I think we’re several years away from that, and I’m perfectly happy to stick with GW2 until whenever Anet decides it’s time to move to “GW3.” I think GW2 still has a lot of years left in its lifespan, even if the graphics become outdated over time. No clue what I’d want in GW3. I don’t want it to stray too far from high fantasy genre (and become an entirely sci fi or steampunk world). But it might be cool to see Future Tyria, or even some of the continents none of the GWs games have explored. Otherwise it could be neat to go back in time to the infamous “Guild Wars.” For a game named after it, it’s bizarre how we never experienced it firsthand. XD
