  1. I have to say it, just in case, but experience gained after level 80 is not lost. Setting aside masteries, which require experience to progress, each time you get 254000 experience, you gain a Spirit Shard. While not much on their own, those Shards are still required for : - crafting legendary weapons or armors (through mystic clovers, acquired mostly via trade or the mystic forge, which require shards) - Stat-swapping of ascended weapons and armors - A huge bunch of unique skins (Mystic Weapons, Mist weapons, Riftstalker's weapons, Blosssoming Mist Shard armor, Salvation, True Mettle, ascended quivers, Antonina, Ambrosia, Eidolon, Cragstone, The Anomaly ...) - And a number of Guild Upgrades
  2. That's... debatable. The human character is arguably the most "heroic" at level 2, being called the "hero of shaemoor" by some npcs; but he's not actually important, and (depending on your creation choices) gets involved in a gang fight, nearly arrested by the guard, or attacked by kidnappers. Asura characters help with handling a inquest-triggered golem rampage... which doesn't seem to that rare an occurrence, looking at the rest of their story. Norn characters are the winner of the Great Hunt, an annual tradition, meaning there's at least two dozen guys like them from past years. Charrs have the fortune of helping a Tribune with dealing with a powerful ghost... at the cost of wiping nearly all of their warband; and they get sent back to work immediately after. And sylvari... well sylvari get to exist and have a wyld hunt. By the end of the tutorial, the protagonist is a local celebrity at best, and a nobody with a bit of talent at worst. They do progress quickly tho, and have at least one very public achievement by the end of the racial part of the storyline (level 30). ======= On the subject of the thread : The poll has the issue to be completely black and white. No story ever again; or all the story all the time. There is a middle ground. Not all releases have to be about story, and some already aren't (the amount dependent on what each people consider to be content). But story releases also are important.
  3. That's not a bug. Measured Shot shadowstep you toward your targeted ally; or away from your targeted foe. That's the intended behavior.

  5. And were do you get that the percentage refer only to the chaotic part and not the evil part too ? "Usually chaotic evil" mean than above 50% are chaotic evil; and the rest are any other alignment. It's just as possible for orcs (as individuals or as organisations) to be chaotic neutral than to be neutral evil. The point is : Even as far back as 20 years ago in DnD, orcs where not explicitly limited to being evil. If you want more proof of that, I point you toward Unapproachable East, an official Forgotten Realms book for D&D 3.0, published May 2003, in which the city of phsant is presented. This city is host to "many orcs from the Zhent legion" which "have learned to restrain their more violent nature and fit in as best they can". The leader of those orcs is Captain Grattz, a loyal neutral male orc.
  6. Because it wasn't uncommon that some people had their game crash after an update, and removing arc fixed it. It's far less prone to that now but it was a regular occurrence in the past.
  7. That's not even close to being a recent thing. DnD 3.0's Monster Manual (released October 2000, 22 years ago) already had the Orcs' alignement set to "Usually Chaotic Evil" (meaning more that 50% of the population is such); and the 3.5 version (released July 2003) had it set to "Often Chaotic Evil" (meaning between 40% and 50% of the population is such). Even way back then, adventurer shouldn't have been that quick on the draw, but decided to ignore that in favor for considering all orcs as evil.
  8. Emboldened seem to have been create to let people discover the battles, with the goal of being able to graduate out of it once you have mastered the mechanics. I see two reason for them not to have emboldened on all wings at once : - first, it doesn't invalidate the normal mode. If emboldened was on every wings at once, it would make normal mode pretty useless. By having only one wing per week in emboldened, it rewards people that don't only do the weekly emboldened wing; and encourage emboldened players to move up and try their hand at normal mode once they understand the fights. - second, as you said, it funels new players into a single wing; it ensure that people looking for training will find more players with the same goal than if they were spread accross all the wings. I like emboldened; it's great to teach new people and for thoses weeks when you don't have time and you just want to rush through a few bosses; but it's a crutch, and we shouldn't rely.
  9. Hello. ArenaNet is currently in the process of testing things to enhance the experience of new players. Due to the nature of how that testing work, only some player benefit from it (look up A/B testing if you want more info on to why). Your girlfriend was lucky to get the trial. As GODh indicated, the best way to access the raptor for you is to complete the first mission of the Path of Fire expansion. Welcome, and have fun !
  10. Putting aside what the others member already said, there's one major issue with the idea of auto-LFG in GW2 : In MMOs where this system works well, groups have well-defined composition, with clear, fixed roles for each member. For some games, this role is automatically determined by the class, for other, it's indicated by the player when they queue. That's alright. But, what are those roles in GW2 ? GW2, by design, has no clearly defined roles. The roles we are using for every encounter have been decided by the community, and are subject to change should better methods to clear those encounters are found. Moreover, while some roles tend to be used for all fights (healer, alac, banners...), a number of other roles are encounter-specific (tanks are not always necessary, handkitter, etc) while still requiring builds with specific needs. How do you handle a auto-lfg system when the roles are dynamic, and purely community-defined ?
  11. Hey, you're lucky. At least warrior is mentioned. Apparently, thief has just been forgotten.
  12. The hall was fine when I logged out to sleep a bit after 2 AM (GMT+2); I discovered it was broken 9:40 am GMT+2; As the other posters said, it is now apparently fixed.
  13. Update : using a NA alt account, I was able to access the guild hall as it should be. Decorations are still correctly placed, so at least, that's a relief.
  14. Just chiming in to confirm the issue. Everything was fine yesterday in ou small level 42 guild. Now the guild hall is empty.
