  1. I don't think it was "intended" for weapon-swap per se. I strongly suspect given Anets history with engineer, that they just haven't actually considered that there is no weapon swap.
  2. Aside from the fact that it feels like pistol should have been a two handed weapon, that the gimmick it's been given basically needs it to have a #4 and #5, I've been trying to work out what it is that pistol reminds me of, and this is basically it. It's the beta version of hammer, but even worse.
  3. This is exactly it. Exactly as I predicted and Hizen has now twice proven, the shortbow is basically useless on every spec except mechanist where it is toxic. The mech becomes effectively invincibile and fights for you while you sit safely at range. The worst designed espec meets the worst designed weapon and results in the worst type of gameplay that players warned about and Anet claim to be against. I genuinely don't understand how Anet keep doing things like this. Meh.
  4. I honestly think it should have been a whip. Some of the issues with the beam would stick around (covering your legendary) but at least it would break up the visual monotony. The tether would make more sense as well, then.
  5. What's really bizarre about the design, is that it would work really well on a two-handed weapon. It feels bad because it's only half of a weapon. Air 3 for example would be great if you had 2 other bullet generating skills to pick from in air. As it stands it's completely worthless. If Anet had given people what they wanted, with these mechanics, it probably wouldn't have been so god-awful.
  6. So it achieves the exact same thing as mace/shield or hammer on the same setup but with none of the damage, meaning you'll take a lot longer to kill things with little to no benefit? I mean, sure you'll have occasional aegis, but at best that will block attacks that you wouldn't have had to deal with on any other build because the mob attacking you would be dead. I mean it's not great is it?
  7. Everyone hates that heart. I tend to stealth up, then go anti-clockwise from the start, behind the first tents, over the the next one. Can usually complete it in 3 runs, iirc but it's still tedious.
  8. My prediction is that the bow will feel better to play but still has exactly the same flaws. ie 1. Useless on Holo 2. Pointless on scrapper 3. OP/toxic on mech It was alway going to be this way. It needed a complete redesign in terms of purpose, as well as usage.
  9. Ele has always felt, at least to me, to be the only prof that has to sacrifice everything in order to do something. It will do that one thing pretty kitten well....so long as that one thing is melee range damage..but at such a high cost.
  10. Engi shortbow will remain completely worthless except on mechanist, where due to mechanist's awful, awful design, the bow will make the golem immortal. An already obnoxious espec will become even more toxic for the game. Guardian, thief and ranger will probably be the stars. everything else will be kind of meh.
  11. Seriously, this is the only conclusion I've been able to come to. I really like Tempest, or at least I want to, but these shouts are so annoying that I had to give it up. I can't get on with either cata or weaver and anet in their infinite wisdom have nerfed the merry hell out of the core trait lines in order to deal with the excesses of elite specs...which means that core isn't really an option. Result: no ele for me.
  12. The snowcrows discussion also points out that one of the changes is the exact same as was shelved last august, for being based on dodgy data. How did we end up back at this point? Balance patches for the sake of it looking like they are doing something? I'd rather have no balance patch than a poorly reasoned one.
  13. Hilarious. Numerous massively over-performing specs that are widely used because they have the most damage combined with good sustain and are painfully easy to use, but anet decides to leave those alone and nerf the high-skill floor-high skill ceiling, underperforming, underplayed specs instead. Classic. Couldn't make this sh*t up 😂
  14. Never use shield on my engi. The new updated oh-pistol is just too good for my scrapper, which kitten's me off because my scrapper would rock that ornamental shield.
  15. This would be my only complaint. Focus and shield especially, rarely get a look on any class in any content.
  16. I tend to agree, I wouldn't ever use the sacred weapons but they are still phenomenally done. The ornamentals are definitely the highlight for me.
  17. Seriously, I'm really impressed. The soltice weapons are not even remotely my style but they're still incredibley well done. The Ornamentals are utterly GORGEOUS! The animations and physics on the shield especially...wow. Me want! A+ team. A kittening plus.
  18. I really like SotO, Vast improvement over EoD in my opinion. Made me enjoy the game again. That said, I agree with this. The essence hunt and legendary armor collections are a nightmare. The cost of completing them is just absurd, it would be cheaper to buy enough materials to make entire sets of ascended armor of multiple stat choices, for every character you have, than to make one piece of the legendary armor. The monotony of gathering the materials is just the disgusting tasing icing on the rapidly-moulding cake. I don't understand why every piece of the sub-collections need entire stacks legendary materials on top of thousands of echos. If they halved the requirements, it would still be waaaaaay over the top. Just not worth it. If they reduced the ectos from the krpytis purified essence recipe from 50 to 5, that would make it less awful but still not great. Oh, and the light and medium armor previews look terrible. Why is anet obsessed with making things wider at the shoulders than they are tall? It's like some sort of 80's shoulderpad nightmare Blllleegggh Edit: note: 80s Shoulderpad Nightmare would be a great name for a Metal Legion track. We need MORE Metal Legion!
  19. No, seriously, I LOVE this. Got the original login music back and it just brings me joy.
  20. I just don't get what it's for. I mean it seems completely useless to every spec except mechanist. It's very nature necessitates you have a second as it encourages the use of all of the skills in one go and none of them are for damage. There's no real condi damage on it, so condi based builds will be crippled by it's use. No real healing either, so it's only good for a build which exclusively wants to provide boons. That means without a second weapon set, you'll blow your wad then be stuck AA spamming for for duration of the cooldowns. As such, it's practically useless without a second weapon option in almost every situation. Scrapper generally wont take these so it's essentially useless on scrapper, with the exception of a heal scrapper which few would want to take anyway and that would lose out on healing and damage, by it's use. Holosmith has a built-in weaponset with holoforge, but has little to no use for a boon weapon and due to the lack of damage would only really cripple itself by using it. The only spec that could use it would be a boon mechanist. This elite is so poorly designed that most of the damage lost by taking the bow, the bot will make up for anyway, so no real loss there, you can use it to buff the bot however, so the most awful spec they've ever invented, which is ludicrous to balance and already easy mode in most content, will get an even easier ride. It's a balancing nightmare. I would say I'm suprised but anet has always, always failed engineer. From the needless, repeated nerfs to basic and already underpower skills, to turrets, to "boosting DPS" by increasing damage to the launch on rocket boots (kitten), to purity of purpose, destructable pathing issue gyros which players spotted coming a mile off but anet didn't think about in the slightest, right up to the absolute farce that is the obstructive, obnoxious jade bot on mechanist, anet have absolutely no idea what they are doing with engineer. They're literally still trying to fix scrapper two expansions later and there's no fixing mechanist because it's so inherently problematicly designed. Again, something which players called out and anet didn't think about in the slightest. tl;dr I don't get who bow is for? it's worthless for every spec except mechanist. But then, I guess that answers my own question *shakes head, wearily*.
  21. I dunno, necro staff has blast finishers, condi and CC. If they copy/pasted it to engi, it would look a heck of a lot more useful, effective, fun and just plain better than this.
  22. This! A million times, This! I love every part of this suggestion. Especially the part where the bloody awful things despawn automatically. The only way this could be better would be to make the abilities the mechanist has more powerful over time moving the power from the ai to the player, until it's actually good without the mech...... then delete the mech. That would be the greatest
  23. I am not keen, my build uses both path of corruption and parasitic contagion. With this change I lose one trait and not one of the GMs benefits me at all. The rest of the changes look fine, but I don't see the point of this one at all, nor do I see how it benefits fear builds particularly.
  24. Mechanist is ranger, with an engineer makeover. What's your point?
  25. Would have infinitely preferred this over the obnoxious, broken mess we got, which anyone who played earlier engineer and ranger, knew and stated it would be. It wouldn't be so bad if the mech less obstructive and they actually looked different to other people's in some way. Mechanist is the worst possible version of itself. Way worse than beta ranger.
