  1. I would love to see the Asura reclaim their underground areas post-Destroyers.
  2. IMO, I'm glad they're not making the Commander be a wizard, because that would just be a cheap way to reboot the story when they don't remember all the people from the past expansions and living worlds. I get that they're trying to be a bit more ambiguous as to who the "bad guy" is, but I'll be glad when we leave the wizards behind, because I think they're a far greater threat to Tyria than the Kryptis are.
  3. FWIW, I'm on slackware-current, so close to Arch in a lot of versions. (i'm using X11 and XFCE4, though.) pixman is 0.43.0 for me. We're not using libplacebo. What happens if you downgrade pixman?
  4. Valve can't fix what they don't know about. Something changed with the launcher, and something in proton needs to change to adjust for it.
  5. If you're having problems with proton, the place to post issues is on the proton github. ArenaNet doesn't fix things with proton: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/6547
  6. Yeah, it happens. The last time I bought some gems, it took a few hours.
  7. You can still use regular wine (wine-staging, really) with GW2, but you need the vk child window patch. If you're not comfortable compiling it on your own, Proton has it already enabled, and Steam has a vested interest in keeping GW2 running, so it's easier to use proton to play GW2. I'm a bit lazy, and I don't mind not spending 20 minutes compiling WINE on my own. I don't know if lutris's WINE builds have that particular patch, because I don't use it. As for the overhead of Steam, it's far less than two tabs on firefox or discord. With a computer with at least 16GB of RAM, you shouldn't notice the native Steam client. You don't have to repurchase GW2 through Steam. If you bought expansions through the website, and played it on the standalone client, then you need to append "-provider Portal" to launch options. (Right click the game, choose "Properties," and it's under "General.") Just make sure that for any future expansions, you buy them through the GW2 store, not Steam.
  8. Then you really should've done your research before getting a Steam Deck, honestly. Valve is upfront that any issues with a game running on proton should be handled through them at the github link I shared, rather than through the developers directly.
  9. ArenaNet doesn't handle proton or the steam deck. You'll have to go through Valve: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/6547 Otherwise, there's a thread here: There are also tips on the protondb entry for GW2: https://www.protondb.com/app/1284210?device=steamDeck
  10. I just did two rifts in Sandswept Isle, and didn't get credit for either of them. I was on my guardian--does it make a difference if the character hasn't done the story chapters? I seem to recall having no problems on the character who had run through the new chapters the last time this daily popped.
  11. That's my one big beef with it is that so much of the music is recycled from GW1. But that's been true for the game, itself.
  12. I really enjoyed Droknar's Forge again without having to do the Droknar's forge run. 😄
  13. Cool, thanks. I wasn't doing rifts, since I was running around looking for a bounty.
  14. I'm just glad I'm not stuck with 47 repair canisters and 52 bank vault accesses.
  15. Launcher patches. 🙂 Not expecting any big issues, since it's basically the same engine and UI we've been using the past 6 months.
  16. And patching the launcher... Hoping nothing broke Proton... 100MB is 10%, so I need more coffee to math. 1000 MB? So about a gig? (Or did I kitten up the math?)
  17. Heh, I do. I had a paperback copy of a book that was falling apart, but the text block was still OK. I rebound it with a nice case binding, and I'm thinking of doing the same to some of my other paperbacks... 😄 I got the inspiration from thatsmybookshelf on instagram. Bookbinding isn't hard...just a lot of PVA glue and measuring. A *lot* of PVA glue...
  18. "Processing Vulkan shaders" I get this at least twice a day, in addition to any other shader downloads Steam does. Does the processing vulkan shaders step actually do anything? Or is this another instance of that bug we had awhile ago? I can understand a kernel upgrade triggering it, since i'm reinstalling drivers (nvidia) then. But after I've played for an hour, when it doesn't trigger it on the launch prior? Makes no sense.
  19. I mostly solo and do world events. I think it sounds like the only thing that's changing is that one can choose what you want to do to fill up the daily/weekly/monthly meter. Seeing as though they're adding in legendary armor for world events, it would really shock me if they made it so you couldn't do the new dailies solo, too. (I, for one, am pscyhed about not having to do adventures for dailies...) After an LFR raid in WoW, where I was getting death and other assorted threats (not sure if I can use the 4-letter r word here) because I missed when to use Heroism (and nobody called it out), I walked away from the raiding and mythic scene, and the WoW scene entirely. (I've always played GW1/GW2 and WoW alternately.) Coming back to GW2 was a breath of fresh air. I think those commanders are the exception, honestly. The times I've joined squads in Dragon's End, people are pretty helpful. If they're spamming arcdps in chat, then that's a good indication that their play style isn't one for me. ArenaNet is good about following up on toxic people, too. (Anyone remember Dhuum? :D) I'm in a field where I'm constantly taking criticism for my work. It never gets to me, and it's rarely personal. (You get to a point where you can shrug off criticism with the words of Jeffrey Lebowski: "Yeah, you know, that's, like, your opinion, man." ) In game, though, the criticism often gets personal, which I think is why a person can be strong/stable IRL, but have some pretty significant anxiety over grouping. (I totally get it! I was/am gun-shy about raiding and strikes after the last LFR raid I did in WoW.) I'm not sure why in-game criticism gets way nastier than anything in the arts. Smaller stakes? People not knowing how to give constructive criticism?
  20. Like I wish the IGN Vault forums were still in existence. They were absolutely a wretched hive of scum and villainy, but they were also the official forums for Dark Age of Camelot. As far back as I can remember in that game (about 2001), people were complaining about every little change, and every expansion meant that the game was dying. I wasn't into the Asheron's Call or EQ scenes, but I'd bet that the same things were said of those MMO's, too. In short, it's always been this way. It doesn't have to be, and it does feel like the toxicity in these forums is getting worse since the end of Path of Fire. Influx from other games? Society, in general? I'm not sure of the cause, but it's a trend I'm seeing elsewhere on social media, not just game forums now.
  21. So what happens to the bonuses for magic find, gold, and karma that we get after 30 days of logging in?
  22. Did they change how the jade bot charges? It's not charging from zip lines. (I've got the mastery for it.) Further testing, it's not all of them, just the ones around the Jade Gate in Echovald Forest.)
  23. I'm close to that demographic, but I liked Yao. I know too many people, who saw the inclusion of Yao, Jormag, and Sya, and saw themselves recognized in a really meaningful way. That, for me, makes them worth including. (Not that my friends are ice Elder dragons, but that Jormag was they/them.)
