  1. Yes, but it is much lower chance than using a fish's preferred bait.
  2. Get rid of all the categories. Put everything in one list with search box. Add to the create LFG screen the ability to click to quickly add tags to your entry.
  3. The order of the story is: Core Tyria, LW Season 1 (currently being re-added to game; not complete, but will be by end of 2022), LW Season 2, Heart of Thorns, LW Season 3, Path of Fire, LW Season 4, LW Season 5 (a.k.a Icebrood Saga), End of Dragons Highly recommend it if you want the complete story. LW Season 4 also gives you the roller beetle and skyscale mounts.
  4. If applicable, do the story. Then do map complete taking time to look around and do some events. Typically don't participate in metas until I have most of the map completed, but if I stumble into them, I go with it.
  5. Don't use your high-level characters to mow down everything. Step in only is they need it or ask. Even if you use a starter toon yourself, you need to be careful not to dominate. Don't jump into talking about builds and gear and skills and rotations, etc. Again, unless they ask. Don't lead them around to where you think they should go. Let them explore. Again, unless they ask. Don't immediately tell them the solution or what's coming (i.e., no spoilers)
  6. Personally, I think the changes they are making have been long overdue and are good for the new player experience regardless of Steam. The world boss change has nothing to do with steam. It was needed because of power creep over time. These bosses are now back to feeling like world bosses instead of being nuked in less than a minute. I will agree the botting, afk farming, and stuff is likely to get worse if Areanet doesn't do something about it.
  7. Good point. I am a bit of a pack rat and too lazy to swap to an alt to access something: 😁
  8. If you are going to play through the rest of the story before doing EOD it might be worth getting a salvage-o-matic now. I assume you already have the copper-fed. Silver-fed is purely a QOL-only buy. If you have the Mystic Forge Stones to create Mystic Salvage Kits, they are identical to Silver-fed. I would only get it if you are tired of making the MSKs or you don't have, or want to use, the MFS. Runecrafter's salvage kit does not have an equivalent non-gem store item. Using it on green gear can net you charms which can be worth a fair amount of silver. So, if you are going to get one I would get the Runecrafter's first. But even then there are probably better gen-store buys like unbreakable tools, bag slots, bank slots, etc. If you don't already have them.

  10. You're not limited to 15 seconds like many people think. You can take as long as you need to kill them. Just don't let your skiff get destroyed. Note, if you are "on-board" your skiff (i..e. sitting so you can drive it) mobs will attack your skiff and any damage they do goes to your skiff. If you are standing on your skiff to fish, the mobs attack YOU, not your skiff. Any damage to your skiff only comes from collateral damage like AOE, pierce/cleave, etc., so it takes less damage. So, if you are going to stop to fish in a place with mobs, immediately stand to reduce the damage your skiff is taking. Then jump off to take care of them and reboard. In many places, mobs might try to hit you but they can't so your skiff will not even take damage. When you go to leave, be sure to not sit down until you can immediately begin moving, because as soon as you sit, they will start doing damage to your skiff again. Alternatively, jump off and kill them before you leave. When standing, watch the tiny little skiff health bar that appears to see if it is taking damage. (ANet, this health bar needs to be MUCH bigger.) Also, stick to deeper water. In shallow water, the mobs are more likely to be able to hit you and thus your skiff. Also, if you can get your fishing power up from all the other buffs, then in all but the highest-level areas (Desert, Orr and Ring of Fire) you don't need the buff from Fishing Party to be above Level Il or III (10 and 25 fish respectively). This makes it must less impactful if you lose it. Having done 26 fishing collections so far, I am convinced Fishing Power does not work like magic find. Continuing to raise it after you have reached the minimum needed for a fishing hole does NOT continue to improve your chance of getting rare fish. After you have reached the require fishing power for the hole, it's up to RNGesus. Okay, didn't mean for that to turn into a fishing tutorial. 😁 Having said all that, I agree there are things Anet needs to fix. You should definitely not lose your stacks because of a player population forced map switch.
  11. I had many of these same gripes initially, but I discovered there is a common misconception going around that you lose your fishing party buff if you leave your skiff and the 15 sec timer runs out. How it actually works is that you lose your fishing party buff 15 seconds after your skiff despawns, if you do not respawn it and board it again. If you jump off your skiff and don't dismiss it, you can take as long as you want to do something provided you don't do something that causes your skiff to despawn like get more that 3400 units away from it, hit the mount/dismount key, change maps, or enter an instance. (There may be others.) So, you can kill enemies attacking you, gather nearby, or participate in events nearby (though not something like Dragon's End.) It's still a pain, but not as bad as some think.
  12. I have to admit when I first tried it, I thought, "welp, not going to be doing much of this." But then discovered you can get ambergris from it, so decided to try a collection and found that if you pay attention to bait, time of day, and type of fishing node and you get your fishing power up, its rather fun. I was really concerned it was going to be a horrible grind to get the ascended and legendary fish, but they drop fairly often (with high fishing power). Overall, it feels very satisfying. It may be my imagination, but I am beginning to believe the movement of the fish bar is not completely RNG. There seems to be set patterns and the more you fish the more you can anticipate the movement and match it. That said, it definitely needs some quality-of-life fixes. KEY BINDINGS! Also, a "fishing mode" that you can turn on--in game or in options--that makes it so when you anchor your skiff you automatically activate the fishing rod would be great. Definitely would want to be able to turn it off if not actively fishing though.
  13. Ranger main here. Have you checked out metabattle.com? It has a fair number of builds. You didn't say which game mode you are interested in. I will assume open work PVE. Soulbeast typically goes one of two directions: power soulbeast or condi soulbeast. For power it is typically berserker gear with scholar runes. Long bow and great sword with sigils of force. The other sigil has some flexibility. Condi soulbeast is typically viper gear, again with scholar runes. And condi weapon like sword and/or short bow. Untamed is still being worked out. There have not been any really great builds yet. Personally, I am running untamed right now an enjoying it. For me it has better sustain than soulbeast. I am running zerker gear, runes of the pack, hammer and long bow with sigils of force, strength (bow), and impact (hammer). Exact build: Skirmishing: 2,1,3 Marksmanship: 2,2,3 Untamed: 2,1,3
  14. I agree completely. I think this has been one of, if not the worst, rollouts. Very poorly executed. Would have been far more interesting if they had just added new events in the existing core maps.
  15. I also think there is something not right about this meta. I have been on every night since the release and have yet to be put on a map where anyone was doing the meta. Tonight there were some people starting so I thought I would maybe get to participate and the people that were there gave up a left. That is not right for a map that was just released. You shouldn't have to do LFG to find a group to do a brand new map.
