  1. I have already done Defense of Amnytas many times, but there are still a couple of things I don't get about this meta. First, once we reach the top platform, we have four tentacles to eliminate before targetting the boss. They need to have some kind of armor buff removed. I gather it is from one of the golems. Which one to head for? Or am I missing something else? Second, "Help stop the tentacles from damaging the spire below." I gather I need to shoot tentacles with my skyscale's fireballs. Where are those tentacles? I see nothing targettable. Third, as a bonus: when I first ran this meta, I usually got 200% participation by the end. Now I have trouble going past 125% and I am most definitely not going afk. I do not know what I may be doing different. Thoughts?
  2. Update: I kept trying to progress Artisan of Arms: Elementalist's Pistol in Gendarran Fields. Attacking mobs when attuned to fire: little to no progress. Not only that, it appeared to stall progress in any attunement until I move well out of the immediate area. Attacking mobs when attuned to air: progress, especially when targetting ambient mobs like rabbits and frogs. I managed to complete the first tier of the achievement.
  3. I have been using the pistol on a condition tempest. I managed to make modest progress (8-9%), but definitely not satisfactory. Having figured out condition damage might be an issue, I switched to air. Even only using air autoattack, landing the killing blow, not using overloads, off-hand weapon skills or slot skills, progress is still stalled at 9%.
  4. Battle for Lion's Arch is not easy for a someone likely to be a newbie. Most truthful anwer: whatever profession you click with. More general answer: pet classes are good, namely necromancer and ranger. Guardians don't have a pet but can be quite resilient.
  5. Re: boss encounter design, what do Vale Guardian, Gorseval, Matthias Gabrel, Keep Construct, Soulless Horror, Cold War, Boneskinner, Whisper of Jormag, Molten Bosses and countless other GW2 instance bosses have in common? Open World is and always has been ArenaNet's strength, not instanced content. Years ago, I had the time of my MMO life in vanilla and BC WoW dungeons. The last time I played WoW was at the end of BfA and it still outclassed GW2 for instanced fun. I've only gotten into GW2 raids in the last year. Learning and progressing through one of the most challenging contents the game offers was a great experience. Nevertheless, once it is done, replayability comes from the exclusive (LI, shards) and/or efficient (strikes) rewards provided, not from the actual fun the experience provides.
  6. I am a PvE player. I dabbled enough in WvW to get the legendary ring a few days after the AV came out. I am so glad that's done! The new system has basically killed WvW for me. I am happy with a cap to how many dailies or weeklies you can complete, but I resent having to choose between PvE or a PvE/WvW combo that has too many WvW requirements. This being said, the AV reward system is better than the old one. I like the new big picture, but have issues with some of the details.
  7. I did it successfully for the first time today. You can ignore the very first beacon on your way north. Using mount stealth right before landing next to a heavily-guarded beacon is also a good way to avoid undue aggro, literally.
  8. Funerary Incense! Do not forget Funerary Incense. Time-gated. You can buy one per day per renown heart in Vabbi. You need 100. Also, buying a Brandstone Node for my home instance was one of my best investments in the last six years. I must admit that with lower prices for Powdered Rose Quartz make it less appealing, but if you are planning to do this over several months rather than a few weeks, it may still be the way to go. Doing Istan dailies when they are on the S4 rotation is also good.
  9. Update: I tried it a third time this morning. It worked. I made sure to close Firefox in the background and dismiss my mech before the cinematic launched. I have no clue whether that actually was a key.
  10. I tried to complete Mabon's Fate in the SotO storyline tonight. I had already completed it without issues on two other characters some weeks ago. Tonight, the game crashed when I tried to skip the closing cinematic starring Zojja and Dagda. When I came back, my character had to restart the whole mission story from the beginning. This time, I let the cinematic play to the end, at which point the game crashed again. When I came back, once more, I had made no progress and needed to redo the mission from scratch. I quit in disgust.
  11. That is sadly not fitting what I was hoping for, but still worth asking. Thank you for the prompt reply.
  12. I have a neutral impression of the expansion. 🌻 Interesting new masteries. Intriguing characters in Mabon in Lyhr. A surprisingly likable Zojja 2.0, the first asura in years I have not felt like silencing one way or another. ANet listened to the feedback about the Arcane Vault. The EoD mini-dungeons are not that great solo, but when they are dailies, I actually enjoy them with all the other players preent. Skywatch archipelago is cool and fun to navigate. Finally a way of making legendary armor from open world activities! 🪴The story does not reel me in and I got confused more than once. Too many new characters and plot elements in too short of a time. I loathe gate keeping access to new zones with story missions. I started raiding several months ago, so the new legendary armor did not excite me overmuch. Now that I heard about the attending grind in guild chat, I need to find a raid static, SOON! One of the best thing I was hoping to get by getting out of EoD was the End of Research Notes Grind . . . 😢 The reworking of WvW daily rewards caused me to entirely drop that game mode. Rift hunt is boring and repetitive. Amnytas and the Wizard's Tower hit the uncanny valley for me: they look like a cross between the High Heavens of Diablo 3's Act 4 and Silvermoon City in WoW. Plus, Amnytas' bastions are hell to navigate, making the skyscale a chore rather than a pleasurable convenience. Weaponmaster training? Unsure. Power creep and monkey wrenches galore. I am waiting for the dust to settle. But before it does, we'll have new weapons for each profession. To be continued . . .
  13. Do you have regular raids scheduled? If so, at what time in the week?
  14. I do not remember having issues with my first character running through the story, but to day, my second one did, as described by the OP. I managed to figure it out on my own and managed to finish the fight UI-blind. The worst was when I was supposed to take the portal back to the Wizard's Tower. No way to interact with the portal. I had to log out and then back in, then use the WT Teleportation Scrool. There was fortunately a green swirl within the WT where I could pick up the mission where it stopped.
  15. Just one more proof that Joko is the best NPC that franchise ever had. Praise Joko!
  16. I am not reading 22 pages of posts to share my own thoughts. Let ANet sift through and make up their mind. More freedom in selecting rewards: good. Cosmetic and quality of life items added to rewards: excellent. Weekly objective: welcome addition. Lowered passive rewards (i.e., a token 5 astral acclaim for just logging in): not happy, but won't complain much. Set in stone weekly achivements: not a fan, but I can live with the new system. Loss of loot chests for daily achievements: see previous item. WvW reward track progress potions are very sorely missed. Set in stone daily achievements: 🤬 This is the one major sore point of the system shift, and one that completely spoils it. Current selection of dailies as seen on the wiki: not too impressed, and missing some of the old ones, especially those that ask you to complete four events in a core Tyria map. That was a factor in keeping old maps alive. I have been lucky enough to complete all my dailies for the first six days, but I dread what is to come. Choice of dailies is vital. Change the system to allow a selection of, say, five or six dailies and we are back on the positive side. I am 3-4 weeks from completing Conflux. I had planned to maintain a token WvW activity afterward, but with the new system, not a chance. I do not intend to set foot there for many months and am glad I won't have to farm more GoB for years, hopefully. Sorry roamers, you just lost my generous contribution of heavy loot bags.
  17. I understand the frustration. It is two parts perseverance and one part luck. Friends are a good alternative if you have them. Basically, don't give up. The time of the day may also matter. I personally found it is easier to find fractal groups than strike groups at odd hours. I believe strikes are more popular at reset, but I am sure somebody else may give you a more accurate estimate.
  18. I have both copper-fed and runecrafter. I systematically use the runecrafter for green armor and weapons. I have owned it for maybe two years and have gotten the symbols and charms for about 1½ legendary sigil and 2½ legendary runes. I don't gather loot as fast as you seem to indicate, but still, it is a long-term project, not an advanced financial calculation. If you are in a rush, just farm the gold.
  19. I sadly can't do much fractals these days. I have started doing raids, but I am working through my first set of legendary armor, so I may need the regular salvage more. It is tempting. Of course, it does not work on ascended backpacks? I've got too many of those lying around.
  20. As the title says. I need a lot these days and have been generating them by converting excess T5 materials to gloves and foci. The sheer management of material overflow and crafting is wearing me down. Other facts about me and my play style: I have all crafting disciplines maxed out (except for scribe), I have better things to do with my T6 materials and I rarely ever buy anything at the tp. What do you suggest?
  21. There are some travel options that allow one-way travel between maps, e.g., from LA to Amnoon once your character has completed the PoF story. Please make these connections work in both directions. I would even suggest to make them work account-wide rather than character-specific once unlocked. Here is the list off the top of my head: LA to Amnoon LA to Siren's Landing Rata Sum to Draconis Mons* Amnoon to Domain of Istan Desert Highlands to Domain of Kourna Black Citadel to Grothmar Valley* Black Citadel to Bjora Marches* Eye of the North to Drizzlewood Coast* *These passages currently only work during the relevant story chapter and later become inactive. Edit: had forgotten one.
  22. Bundles? No. Are you into story and exploration? Living World episodes. Quality of life? Copper-Fed Salvage-o-matic. Altoholic? Shared Inventory Slots, but only when on sale. The list is really too long.
  23. Consider HoT HP trains. They often only require you to have basic gliding and the raptor unlocked. Check the HoT LFG at prime time. The commanders will sometimes broadcast in LA about their start time and location. Some are pretty much pros and have been running this for years. In a matter of a couple of hours, you could have enough HP's completed in VB, AB and TD to unlock two elite specilizations and more. Accessorily, many PoF and EoD HP's are relatively easy to complete solo. Reaching some of them without upgraded mounts may prove challenging. Good luck.
  24. I don't blame you. It does cost a lot more to operate, but long term, the charms and symbols you get from salvaging green armor and weapons pay up. You can use them to make your own legendary runes and sigils. I have had mine for about two years iirc and I have passively acquired the key materials for 1½ legendary sigil and 2½ legendary runes. This is why I recommend it. You may also sell the symbols and charms at a profit on the tp, but if that was your goal, I would say there are better ways of spending your hard-earned gems.
