  1. I like having the ability to use the skyscale if I chose. For me, it's more a matter of "Do I have the patience for the long, scenic route or do I just wanna go as the crow flies and save myself the brain ache?" (as it were) I like having the option to choose because sometimes, I can get frustrated very easily getting lost in a map by taking the long around, especially if I'm getting into a story-line and I can't wait to see what happens next, or I'm on a mission to do hearts or map completes or something. Whatever my end-goal is for the specific day will sometimes determine by travel habits in game. So if I'm being slow and leisurely, yeah, I'll forego using skyscale and do a lot of walking or just use ground mounts for a bit of a speed boost. But if I'm in a bit of a hurry, I'll bust out the skyscale to definitely glide or fly over tougher obstacles to get places a little faster. Also, I like having the ability of mounting mid fall, in case I do fall off of something, so I don't slam into the ground and accidentally kill myself. There have been times, like as I'm typing this now, when my cats' will interfere with my hands while gaming (just using this as an example), and accidents happen...so, yeah. Accidental death (in game) by cat interference is something a skyscale helps me prevent sometimes.
  2. I like this part of your post! If I had real life friends who played on the regular, I may just take more time and play at their pace and do things with them. Alas I do not...They have RL responsibilities that I do not have, so I have more ability and free time on my hands to play than they do. But yeah, I'd definitely would slow down for my RL buds who played.
  3. As with every new game expansion launch, I do expect some kind of "mishap." Be they bugs or whatnot. But I will say this...at least this isn't a WoW expac launch or anything....They're notoriously horrible because they're servers (even they're backups) are unplayable because they're always FULL, day 1...kittens on toast...week 1 even, if the content is decent. So, if GW2 EoD has a few bugs, but is at least still playable? I'll kitten take it!
  4. I'm really excited to start playing. Until Thursday, I forgot about an appointment I had tomorrow morning, but when I checked, my appointment happens 3 hours before launch (launch is Noon EST where I'm at). So, I can be online and going when I get home. I already told everyone in the house that when I am home that they are not to bug me at all tomorrow. Unless there is a legit emergency (crossing fingers against such an occasion). So, yeah...barring that, I'm good to go! Got my Ramen, coffee maker set up in my room, just have to get my cold drinks from the store and into the fridge tomorrw and I'm set!
  5. My pace really isn't either a race to the finish, nor is it a slow crawl to soak up all the little deets either. I like to go at a reasonable pace to keep me at about the middle of the pack, and...if I miss something along the way...well, that's what alts are for! Sure, I'll do some things a little faster, but my alts can at least afford to take a little more time to take their time and really soak things in after I get a good understanding of what is expected of me in the game. Besides, I'm sure some of my guildies will ROFLSTOMP some aspects of EoD (like the Siege Turtle, or find a workable build with one or more of the Elite Specializations) before I do...So, I can wait and pick their brains if I need to. I just hope I'll be able to work out all of the new currencies that will probably be in the game...I got a little lost with the last expansion before I realized why trade contracts were so important and not to go squandering those...
  6. I love hearing about good stories about the Guild Wars (OG & 2) community and how this franchise helps people, no matter what it is they go through, no matter their ages. I'd say that I hear/read more about the GW community than any other game...but, the fact is, I'm more plugged into the GW communities than I am other gaming communities because I always come back after trying others. I got my start with Prophecies around, 2006 (like OP), not long after a visit from the psych ward. I was diagnosed at the age of 23 (2 years earlier) with Bipolar 2 (Depression), PTSD, & GAD and Social Anxiety Disorder. Anyway, after they got my meds right and I got stable, I'd been looking for a better way to unwind, rather than just playing crappy FB games back then that were barely holding my interest. So, on a chance trip with mom, to the local Yellow Tag store that sells tech stuff, she needed a new phone. Like I always do when she's taking forever shopping (because this woman is allergic to quick trip shopping), I get bored and wander off on my own and end up in the gaming section, daydreaming. As I'm looking through the selections, there's a couple that catch my eye. The old Neverwinter Nights, the never dying WoW, and of course, Guild Wars Prophecies. A clerk noticed me browsing and looking at the back of WoW with a funny face and put it back on the shelf and assisted me. I explained the situation, that I wasn't interested in paying a subscription (at that time, I had no money to sustain one). Well, the clerk just extolls the virtues of Guild Wars. He had good things to say about the old NwN, but...the way he explained GW, I was more sold on that, and picked it up instead, took it to my mom and convinced her to get it for me. Besides, I was doing her a favor by driving her every where, she said she owed me anyway, so she didn't complain. I was a little annoyed by the length of time it took to load, but...my computer back then was really crappy. Afterwards, no one could pry me away from that computer unless there was a family obligation, or the house was burning down, or I actually had to sleep. I was hooked. My ranger was my baby. I did everything on that character. I was in a few guilds until I found the right mix of people for me. I had quite a few online friends...Oh, I had so much fun! And it helped with the Depression part of my Bipolar a lot. Especially if I ever did PvP just to blow off some aggrivation (I wasn't good at it, but it helped with some anger issues). Of course I got the other stand-alone games, Factions and Nightfall and the expansion. And, after awhile, I did branch out into other games, as one does the more one plays. There were also times when I realized that I was doing too much gaming too and had to step away for a bit. Live in the real world for awhile because, yes, gaming can become addictive. When I heard that GW2 was going to be made, I was thrilled, though, and planned on getting it as soon as I could. But the waiting...oh man! So, the release rolls around, but I didn't have the money for it quite yet, so I had to wait a bit. There were other things on my plate before I could get the game. And then finally, 6 months after release, I was able to get it. I was a little confused at first, but I managed to catch on quick, because of the GW community. It's been awhile, but...between a few people helping me out by either donating either bigger bags, or just a few spare g, I was able to really get going and do what I needed to do. And I found my niches in the game. I wish I could say that I found the love of my life here or something like that, but...what I found in GW2 was a little different. It gave me something better. 1. It gave me a way to destress that wasn't sitting in front of a TV watching boring shows that I hate. 2. It also helped me be able to do some small talk when talking with other people (helping me with some social anxiety issues). 3. It gave me a way to get out of dark headspace when depression was getting really bad. 4. And most important, it gave me something to look forward to when nothing else did. So I'm really just thankfull and gratefull for all of that.
  7. I go where the wind takes me... Basically, I do whatever the kitten I feel like doing whenever I hop online. If I feel doing repeatable stories, I do that. If I feel like alting my way through map completes, I do that. If I feel like WvW for a few hours, I do that. You see what I mean. Either way, I just let the loots pile up in my bag, because I'm always gathering when I'm doing these things as well. At the end of all these runs, I hop on the nearest character with max level crafting and do whatever yields me the most money and just sell off for profits or horde until I get the mats for the next sell. When it comes to my Guild Days (Which is usually Friday's and Saturdays and sometimes mixed days in between) I'll run with them for most of my time and build up the loots again. Wash, rinse, repeat... However, lately, because of real life stuff, I've been a little lax in my playtimes, so I've got some catch-up to do...
  8. Gotta say, I'm not a fan of this set...but if this what floats other peoples boats...you do you boo boo. I won't be getting it though. I'm more into the dark and sinister stuff my self...this is just...too much pink and fluff.
  9. Been in now for a few months...Gotta say, chill people, good vibes, no drama. I love this guild! Oh! And there's a lot of good stuff going on on the weekends with a bunch of other stuff going on at random too. I'm almost never bored here. Almost always someone online! Love this guild!
  10. This is usually why I stay in the back end of an encounter...So I can see who's leeching and who's actually playing. If I suspect someone is just leeching, I don't bother going to their aid for the rez, I just leave them down, but I'll go to the others and support them. Once in awhile I will see someone who starts off well in the fight's and then suddenly they've gone afk or something...sometime's that happens...I figure they got distracted by something IRL and had to shoot off real quick. I know it happens...can't blame those guys when it does. I've had it happen to me a time or two when I've had to run off when a boss was 2/3's down because of something going on...Someone hit my in the parking lot, unexpected visitor, unexpected phone call, unexpected ISP disconnection, whatever and just couldn't complete a fight. The thing is, when these things happen, I usually just shut down my game and computer...or if I leave it running, I don't expect someone to rez my kitten bum...because chances are, I know that, even after the boss or whatever is competed, I may not return again and the area mobs are just gonna kill me again. There's no point. Leave my corpse to rot in place until I get back to my keyboard and I can WP to wherever I gotta go...regardless of whether or not I get my loots if I've earned any. The leechers, though, yeah, they are the worst. But it has been going on since forever and game dev's haven't done anything really to prevent it. As long as they start out with a few whacks on the big guys, they got their hits in and as far as the game is concerned, that's technically enough for participation. What are the devs going to do about it? Probably nothing. Would be nice if they did put a cap on how many hits are required for technical participation on a world event or boss fight to reduce the amount of AFK Leechers, but I don't foresee it happening. They'll either QQ about it until it's changed back or they'll find another way to subvert the system to get the loots with minimal effort just like they've been doing.
  11. Thought it was me having internet connection errors again...Okay. Yeah, I was trying to buy a few things on the Trading post and kept getting some really weird "Error 42" messages when I would actually try to make a purchase, but it wasn't kicking me out of the game...wasn't giving me the things I was trying to purchase, but it wasn't taking my money either. So I have neither lost, nor gained anything, and some items were taking forever to load up on my screen and some items would pop up instantly. I do hope that this gets fixed soon...I want to complete the Gourmet Training Achievement today...Well, on to other things I guess. I could always farm the materials...I mean...180 platinum ore can't be THAT hard to find?
  12. I would love also to be able to customize the chat box better in game as well...other than what is already there. Sometimes, when my eyes get tired, the chat does seem to run together like a blob and sometimes the chat colors that currently exist in the game do seem to just bleed together. And the purple that they have for the whisper chat is just horrible on the eyes! I want to be able to change it to orange or to some other color that is distinctive to let me know that I have just received a whisper from someone. I also wish for a different noise to let me know when I get a whisper too, because the current blurp is too subtle and I don't always hear it. I'd like something just a little more distinctive to let me know that a whisper came through on my chat.
  13. Have I seen Mister Vegetable of Hard Material Man? Yes. Can he be entertaining? Mmm...sure...I guess. But I don't follow his content as if it were the be all end all of GW2 content. Then again, I don't follow any GW2 content creator as if they were the be all end all of GW2 content either. Usually, when I need to find content creators for GW2, it's because I need help with something that written guides, or my brain is just too kitten tired to figure out on its own. So I use the video content to help me out...inspire me, or give me direction where I am utterly clueless. If a video has too much loud music, too much talk about sponsors in the beginning, too much bouncing around or if I can't understand what the heck is just going on, I'll look for another one. I like my videos to get to the point, quickly, or at least have a way for me to get to that point quickly instead of me having to wait for a ten minute long diatribe on why you like "Game Vibe Squeeze Juice!" or whatever other product is helping you keep the channel going by sponsoring you. Great, you like the product, put the ad at the end of the video or put up an ad banner in your video...I don't wanna hear about it in a video about a JP I'm trying to get through. That turns me off content quicker than a cat on a hot tin roof for sure. (Ten minutes may be overstating how long it takes for a blurb of an ad to take place in some videos, but putting it at the beginning or the middle of a video instead of at the end, just seems to me, to make the video take forever.) And, I don't know if they still do these, but I haven't been looking for them either...but...GW2 music videos...I don't think I've seen any. I've seen them back in the GW1 days...quite a few that were pretty funny. I miss some of those. I think I'm going to go looking to see.
  14. Out of curiosity...if after the 72 hours are up, and if my gems still don't appear, how do I report the missing gems? As a gem purchase error ticket, or some other way? This is my first time pre-purchasing ultimate package. I haven't had issues so far (other than having to wait 72 hours for gems, not a hardship, I get it), so I just want to be prepared in case I have to submit a ticket for the gems.
  15. Just got the error boxes myself. It didn't pop me out of game, but while doing Conundrum Cubed Jumping Puzzle, every time I went to jump on one of the cubes during the beginning the error would pop up causing me to die. Frustrating.
