  1. Considering the current 1 month re-link system and the volatility of server populations dropping from "main" server to "linking " server, even managing server wide discords would be a nightmare. The majority, if not all, established guilds have servers of their own that people can join to play with them. Most people who join comms have no problem in joining a guild discord for a time and if they want to they can leave it when the guild is no longer in their server rotation. Plus these discords are part of the recruitment tools used by many guilds, where potential members can actually scout out player rosters/members and their social dynamic before entering the guild itself. It would be a disservice to the guilds and a nightmare for Anet to even try to unify servers. The only real disadvantage is not having "commander comms" like TeamSpeak servers use to have, where active commanders could speak to each other while also being in comms with their group.
  2. 10 v 45+ is a fool's errand. You're the one putting yourself in that position. Even the best fighting groups that have played together for years cannot win those odds, so you getting your 10 man in there is just... nonsensical. You will get stripped, you will get CC'd and you will die. Doesn't matter how many times you press your buttons. Tips for surviving in a 10 man group against unfavorable (not impossible) odds • Have a proper comp, with dedicated builds for support, stability and dps. • Learn to position your group to lure enemies into chokes or difficult terrain • Learn to lure enemy damage and have their skills go on cooldown • Identify proper time windows of attack and COORDINATE your damage. Obviously, this is easier said than done, and it tends to require experienced leadership and disciplined group members. Don't take this the wrong way, but at 6 months in WvW, you're the equivalent of a toddler at best. Pick your fights better. With enough playtime you'll learn which groups you can fight evenly and outnumbered and which groups you can't in comparison to your group's skill level.
  3. OP are you in comms? I'll take a mediocre dps in comms over a dps god not in comms for a proper party. The guy in comms is more likely to take directions appropriately and do damage when and where it is called for. Someone spamming their skills on a blob can easily rack up a giant DPS output on ARC, but if it's not coordinated it means nothing, because it kills nothing. Coordinated, and more importantly, CONCENTRATED damage is what generates downs. Think about it this way, it only takes ~20k to kill an enemy, and that can be split between 10 people, within a short burst window at 2-3k damage each. You solo spamming 50k on 5 players in the same window means you did 10k on each, effectively killing nothing. Good WvW groups/guilds are highly coordinated in movement along with strip/CC/damage timing, which to do effectively requires comms. If you're not in comms, you're not getting a "proper" spot in my squad regardless of what your output is.
  4. This has been an issue for a while, but it's become extremely evident during the BETA because there's actual "teams" of organized guilds fighting each other, many times in 3 way fights. I'm not gonna argue in favor or against the boonball situation because at the end of the day that is not inherently the issue. The issue is the code structure is not capable of sustaining what the developers are designing to be "playable", and are exacerbating with the WR/mock Alliance system. It's about time Anet, this has been an issue for FAR TOO LONG and now that you guys are actively promoting the game mode you need to fix the back end so it can support that vision.
  5. I have friends in the guild, but as it stands even with their influence the guild won't move unless there is a motivator that affects the guild as a hole. As highly as my ego allows me think of myself, I'm just a member and I wouldn't think of inconveniencing 30+ people for my misfortune as a "late arrival". As for my friends paying for my transfers, they have offered. Up until recently it was never necessary. And I'm gonna continue to do my best to make it not necessary for them to do so. If it ever comes to it, I'm sure they'd be more than willing. I understand these questions, honestly I do. Unfortunately, they have very little to do with the original intention of the thread. The change in the system is creating certain problems that were reasonable and manageable before. Now they've become unmanageable, for me and I'm sure a lot of other players that don't even bother to voice the issue. Would like to see Anet take this into consideration and mitigate the situation that has arisen from their changes. That's all.
  6. A choice I made when the WvW matchup was 8 weeks long and it was plausible to either earn the gold, or swipe the card. It felt like a fair trade for the choice I made. Now the terms have suddenly changed and the cost has doubled, making it near impossible to earn the gold and more expensive than any subscription MMO. How is this difficult to understand?
  7. Guild has around 20 active players on a given WvW raid night. So not huge, but good numbers, so getting everyone to move because of 1 person is not really practical. I appreciate the sympathy btw, it just sucks that this change might lead to me not being able to play with them. As for other guilds, yeah ofc there are other guilds in other servers. But I have the most and am the closest to the ones I have in this one. Some of which I've known for the better part of 8 years. So playing without them is like... why even bother.
  8. Are you dense? I'm obviously willing to pay, but the cadance on which I am forced to pay is now doubled because of a sudden change. Agreed, that the 4 week matchup is arguably better, or at least more dynamic. The problem being the compounding measure create fringe cases like my own, where continually paying for transfers at the current price becomes unsustainable. Maybe Anet could lower transfer prices while the 4 week measure lasts (from what I understand in the blog post, until WR launches). Or give a significantly lowered transfer promotion as a one off and maybe that will shuffle current servers enough to allow stragglers (like myself currently) to be able to land where they need to. What? I'm in the guild already. The problem is playing with them until Anet decides to release WR. Honestly, WvW with my guild is pretty much the only reason I play nowdays. If I can't play with them, I probably won't play at all.
  9. Think about it this way, if a service offered to you cost 18 dollars every 2 months, and then all of a sudden the company said now you have to pay it every month; is that "your problem" or is it a decision they made that now affects you, considering you have no other options for that service? Because that's what they did. I can explain it to you in apples if you want too. You trying to avoid a matchup is fundamentally different from someone trying to play with their guild.
  10. Effectively doubling the costs of transfers is not a personal problem. It's a decision they made. One that should be looked at. And I don't see why my "friends" old or new should pay for that.
  11. There is no timeline for the WR system to be actually implemented. Given Anet's track record, it'll take months, if not a year to implement this system. I don't consider it logical that any players should fork over gold/money on a monthly basis as a consequence of testing a system that was announced half a decade ago.
  12. So basically, this is a request for Arenanet to take a look at something that's resulted due to the 4 week match-up system they've recently implemented. Let me start by saying that I'm in favor of shorter match-ups, so long as the side-effects of them are taken into consideration. In this particular case, I'm going to address transfers, because it's something that's currently affecting me right now. A little background first: I was in Borliss Pass for years, long enough that I don't even remember how many anymore, but around 4 now. Never been a fan of bandwagoning or anything of the sort; the transfers that I have had (3-4 in almost 10 years) have been following my guild, and these happened because our server was too full and queues became a problem. As you can understand, in Borliss Pass that's not a problem, so we stayed there for a very long time. Since then, due to situations I'm not gonna get into, I have left said guild and joined another where I have several friends playing. Unfortunately, this guild is stationed in a server that is and has been full for quite a long time. I have been transferring to the linked server for a few relinks now in order to play with them. Maybe you see where this is going now. Up until recently, the 2 month match up made these transfers not be especially problematic, as raising 500-800g in 8 weeks isn't much of an issue, or swiping the credit card didn't feel bad every 8 weeks. On top of that, 7/8 weeks without gaining pips was not a terrible trade-off for playing with my friends. As it stands now, having to earn 500-800g a month to transfer or pay up to $22.5 USD a month to keep playing with my friends, while on top of that being penalized with 1/4 weeks of non pip-earning seems way too steep a price/punishment. In terms of gold, that's pretty much how much I make in a month if I whip myself grinding and in terms of money, its more expensive than pretty much any subscription MMO out there. I know perhaps most of the community is not affected by this in any way; but anyone legitimately trying to move to play WvW with their friends that happen to be on a full server will find themselves affected. 11 out of the current 24 servers are currently full; that's almost 45%. Out of the 24 servers, only 4 of them are "High" with 8 being "Very High"; meaning the majority of the time my server transfers will cost 1800 gems (or around 800 gold or $22.50 USD). Anet, you have to take a look at either the transfer costs, or set up some sort of system where people can actually qualify after a certain time to move to a server. In the long term, this will become untenable for many players if the match-ups, transfer costs, and server constraints remain the same way.
  13. Sure if you want to win the matchup, but... what for? You get nothing if you do and you're risking being weak during YOUR playtime. So the way Alliances was being taken by competitive guilds was "kitten the matchup, how do I maximize my group's winrate in the time that we are playing". In any case, Alliances are dead in the water by Anet's admission. And if you're familiar with their track record for WvW development, "delayed" and "soon" means there's two concrete blocks attached to the feet at that project and its in the bottom of the deepest river available. WR is what's happening, so no player input into placement. Not necessarily a bad thing considering what I explained of the player approach to grouping. And yeah it'd be nice if they could spread things out due to time zones, but I highly doubt that is manageable at this point. Guilds and players have already merged into megaguilds in expectation of alliances that arent going to happen... unglueing that for balance is gonna be extremely difficult if not outright impossible.
  14. This is generally true. Most servers have very high activity on reset night and weekends and then it wanes throughout the week. By thursday, there are very few queues, if any. And this only happens during prime time NA. You get into maps in the morning or afternoon it is generally desolate. Maybe 1 map has good activity if the server has a decent OCX/EU population, but those are exceptions and not the rule. That said, I reckon it is undeniable that WvW is in decline. Roaming and Havok in general is dead due to warclaws and balance and structure buffs. Alliance momentum, especially in the last year with the Betas, created a tendency for "competitive" guilds to band together in megaguilds in preparation for Alliances launch, further damaging havok and smaller guilds. Widening the breach, groups of similar skill level will band together, leaving high skilled blobs vs lower skilled blobs, which results in "breaking your toys" and/or content denial. Moving maps on high activity nights is nigh impossible for these blobs so that just leaves logging out of WvW, either because you are getting farmed if weak or there is nothing to farm because you are too strong. Balance changes to target caps, boon creep and lowering strips also contribute to an increased difficulty in fighting outnumbered, furthering the need to bunch up and feeding into the cycle described before. I certainly don't play WvW for the rewards (anymore) as I have literally everything in terms of legendary gear. Yet 5 nights a week I'm there with my guild because of the connections I've made with guildies and the (more and more infrequent) thrill of good fights for our 15 man group. But I dont play off hours anymore. I don't roam anymore. I don't really play the game at all unless its the 2 hours 5 nights a week with my guild. Is it because I dont need to farm anything? Yeah kinda, but I've had all my stuff for a couple years now, and I was playing a lot more (roaming especially) last year than this one. It's just my preferred game mode is now much less appealing AS A GAME to me, and I just go through the motions of it because I enjoy my guild. Cherry on top is all the baiting and lying from Anet devs about alliances, this past expac with no elite specs, the 1 year calendar of dribbling "content"... It's all tainted my experience tbh. Sorry I kinda derailed myself, but I guess I'm trying to point out that the veteran that still plays isn't doing it for rewards, they do it out of enjoyment for the game and community (big or small). And if the enjoyment of the game keeps dropping, the community will not be enough at some point. And with new players are having an increasingly difficult time at entry to permeate these established groups, little knowledge transfer happens, and the near impossiblity of being an inexperienced roamer... I dont see much hope for retention. Things need to change pretty abrutply, starting with Anet devs being honest to themselves and us. And then following up with a plan to reinvigorate interest and further repair the damage they themselves have spawned upon WvW culture and the community around it. Or y'know, let it die like PvP.
  15. Self-fulfilling prophecy. It's not like they're gonna gain players by ignoring the game-mode and consistently lying to the current players. At this point, Arenanet is slow choking this game mode with the crazy eyes and bared teeth.
  16. Post this on reddit. Or twitter? Or a billboard somewhere. Maybe the devs will give us an answer if they're more publicly called out. This WvW subforum might as well not exist, not like we're getting any sort of replies (to anything, not just this) and the general community isn't even aware (or care) about all this. I respect the effort @XenesisII.1540, I really do. I've replied and contributed to many threads like this but at this point it's feels like its a waste of time. We're doing them a favor by posting here, where they can just ignore us.
  17. I have 7 legendary runes for my character. 3 "free" relics just doesn't cut it to make up for it. Consider the number of builds I had used on my Guardian alone (yes I have 8 build templates). 1. Support WvW Firebrand - Altruism Runes 2. Support WvW Cleansing Firebrand - Trooper Runes 3. DPS WvW DH - Scholar Runes 4. Roamer DH - Durability Runes 5. Support Fractal Firebrand - Monk Runes 7. Power Fractal Willbender - Eagle Runes 8. Condi Fractal Willbender - Balthazar Runes The relic change severely punishes the most committed players; those who multiclass and multispec. Special slap to the face for those who already invested in legendary runes. Great job Anet.
  18. Let me start off by saying, I have 7 legendary runes and all 3 sets of legendary armor. I farmed and crafted them because I didn't want to deal with crafting/buying to theorycraft. This new relic system butchered my time investment with a promise to give me "compensation" in +6 months. This has screwed over not only the people who had LEGENDARY RUNES, but also those who had LEGENDARY ARMOR. As it stands I'm forced to craft/buy relics that use very expensive materials (charms) not only for the relics themselves, but for the actual recipes? It's over 200g to buy the combined recipes I had innate access to yesterday from my legendary runes. And that's just the recipes. Crafting the relics is another investment altogether, not to mention they're SOULBOUND, so i cant try them on different characters. The least you could do is make them ascended so we only have to buy ONE to try out on different characters until we decide we want X of each. For the people who already invested in Legendary runes, this is a slap in the face; might as well not have done it and saved money for this absurd new system; at least the exotic runes could be pulled out of LEGENDARY ARMOR and swapped to another character. In this case, nope, its a relic, its in a different slot now that can't be swapped once slotted. Absolutely ridiculous. As for this compensation, I hope Arenanet knows what compensation means: com·pen·sa·tion /ˌkämpənˈsāSH(ə)n/ noun noun: compensation something, typically money, awarded to someone as a recompense for loss, injury, or suffering. This "progress towards legendary relics" is reimbursement for something you took away from us. The compensation should be for the damages (money spent crafting these exotic relics) incurred during the time that we don't have the legendary relic reimbursement.
  19. Chapter 8 of SOTO story, Kamilla is supposed to give the motivation item to fin higher level rifts. Did higher rifts with party of 4. The story journal is checked for me having taken the motivation from Kamilla. The item is gone, the story didnt advance (just for me, everyone else advanced their story). I restarted the chapter by starting an old chapter in SOTO and coming back to chapter 8. Got back to the place where I have to receive the motivation... got an error that says I already got the item. It's nowhere in my inventory, hotbar or anything. Story is stuck and bricked at this point.
  20. Honestly, I think we got swindled Thanks for buying this car! You can take it home and sit in it and press the pedals and mess with the dash buttons and turn it on...... but it only comes with 1 wheel day one. The rest you're gonna get in a course of 9 months, 1 every 3 months. Enjoy your new car smell! Correct me if I'm wrong, but were led to believe that: We were getting a "smaller" expansion, but a complete one. And then they were gonna give us content in 3 subsequent updates (ie. what Living World used to be) with tweaks to the systems. Turns out, we're gonna get this "smaller" expansion in 4 chunks; and it will take another 9 months to ship out the rest of the EXPANSION content. Not even the full story and maps are here day 1. And most of the interesting things are backloaded: leggy armor, expansion relics, leggy relics (which you took from us legendary rune holders), new class weapons, complete masteries... all coming in 6-9 months.
  21. This is the real problem. We get an announcement of an announcement, and then don't get the announced announcement... and then we get ignored when asking about the announcement that was announced. It's a pressure pot they're fueling; then they get upset when people lash out after being neglected, ignored or outright lied to. It's much easier to manage expectations when you keep people informed about delays, problems or shifts in priority than just sticking your head in the sand. I want to think I'm at the acceptance phase where "this will come out when it comes out"... but then that little tidbit of news comes out and gets me riled up again. Nevertheless we keep playing, we keep posting, we keep buying expansions. I'm guilty of it; what can I say.... I have vested meta-interests (guild, friends, connections) around this game that would otherwise dwindle.
  22. This was announced months ago. The recent blogpost is just a more in-depth explanation of how it works. But yes, big mad, no alliance news.
  23. No one's ever been able to give me a good answer for this one . . . I can answer you. It's part of a habit forming ritual to build momentum to do things you don't necessarily want to do, but you should do. You start with the little things, making your bed, brushing your teeth, etc. which builds up to facing more challenging tasks throughout the day, even if you don't like doing them. And if it all goes to kitten throughout the day, at least you come home to a made bed.
