The doom of the Marionette

Let's be honest, this event is not played often anymore, and a HUGE part of it is because it's instanced in the eye of the north.

Do you like the marionette being instanced?

  • Pros: You can technically get into the map with only the persons that you want, more control over the squad (in reality, almost nobody does it).
  • Cons: It's hidden after a system that it does as much as possible to hide this event from major population to even know it exists, the scrying pool really? In eye of the north, really?

Why did Anet not just drop it into the map of Lornar, like it was years ago? Why it isn't in the open running on a timer like any other World Boss? I really don't understand why they took that decission but it severely crippled the replayability of this event. If you add it to world bosses timer, a lot more players would discover it and after a few months of re-learning the major population would farm it daily as we do with world bosses. Tequatl used to fail for months but then people learnt what to do and now we got a cool daily dragon hunting.

The World Boss Timers are already in need of an upgrade because some events are not that interesting (fire elemental dies in 10 seconds after 10 minutes of boring golem escort. Or Taidha, which is incredibly boring to break the door with the barrels) and more interesting events could take the spot of boring ones.

After all there's a precedent, since a world boss was removed from the timer many years ago, the Fire Chaman in Iron Marches.

To clarify, I love the event, which is why
I feel after spending so much time re-creating such an interesting fight like the Marionette, it's a waste having it instanced.
Anet developers and designers are people after all, and we all sometimes make bad decissions. This was one of them. Can we fix it?

It's because they removed the public instance and the math for the private instance is a bit sketchy.

 

It's not a matter of like or dislike. Someone just didn't do the math. It is by no means impossible but the margin of error is reduced which also reduce the chance of success or you have to increase your LFG requirements.

It almost feels like people at anet don't communicate with each other.

One dept. creates season 1 content, then someone decides to make private only, effectively killing the content. Then someone else says they're now bringing public back. Maybe hold team meetings or something anet.

Many people called that the squad/private version was doomed in its current state, even though there were some vehement voices against changes and in favour of keeping it as "hard" as it is. Anet listened to them and made no changes to the private one, this is the result.

However, they did announce that they would at least reintroduce the public one in the future, after a part of the community wanted to keep it, since they knew the private version would go nowhere.

We'll just have to wait until the public version returns to revive the Marionette content.

Oh I thought you asked what the rewards was for the event and thats it you do achivements one time and get rewarded.

 

But your asking whats in the end chest after the event is over I hve no idea mate.

I'd put this a bit above the difficulty of core world bosses.  It's closer to HoT Metas in difficulty.  Not much harder, but requiring a bit more from the participants.

I can appreciate the desire to have this be open world, but I don't think having it instanced in EotN is a bad thing.  Or rather, this game has so many seemingly random design choices that Twisted Marionette in EotN seems about right.  And really, I am totally okay with it remaining in EotN if/when they bring back the public instance of it. 

I can see it being added to one of the Daily rotations to keep players going there periodically after it returns as a public event.  It was fun, the achievements were fun to work towards, and it is something I'd like to do again periodically.

It all hinges on IF they will bring it back at all......

How is it not user-friendly?  Anyone with at least one L80 character has access to The Eye of the North.  Though, I'd probably  not try the Twisted Marionette with a L2 character.

the Scrying Pool is the less visited section of Eye of north... the most visited is the portal where the strikes missions are... the Scrying Pool missions are almost very optional LS1 instances and the less played strike mission, the Forging Steel mission.

 

i remenber first time trying Forging Steel and not finding it on Eye of north Asura Portal, its take time to me figure out that the option was on Scrying Pool.

Fire Elemental is in a starter zone.  Why would you replace it with something like this?

Nah your wrong wont be general world boss rotation it will be like dragonstorm but on the hour it is not running, most likely.

It's probably less about difficulty -because the content can be learned- and more about not having a specific time window for people to join.

Nah, it is the current difficulty, blaming time windows is just coping at this point. Not the first time content was abandoned due to being difficult in the wrong places and no changes being applied due to a vocal group of people.

Anet was warned about it, changes were suggested, some of the usual vocal people shot down the suggestions. The private version is barely played as a result, if at all. The usual vocal people got what they wanted, but not the result they envisioned. You reap what you sow, yet again, I suppose.

I'll just wait for the public version to re-release. At least Anet listened to that suggestion.

Nah, people that wanted to do the content instead of leeching it were doing ok, it's spreading population thin because of no specific time windows.

For now both of these claims are mostly just opinions anyways.

Oh, that's the reason all those 250 LI groups kept failing! They were full of leechers! It must then be a coincidence that a personally selected squad of people had so many egregious leechers that caused the event to fail! Or "leechers" may yet be another coping mechanism to deny the private version flat-out failed due to difficulty.

Of course, the public version, even though anyone could join without a squad and therefore potentially had a higher chance of leechers didn't fail as much. It was even so popular that people raised their voice so that Anet promised to bring it back.

Anyways, I'm too tired to discuss this topic with you, as even after the result of the private squad version is laid out for everyone to see, you still decide to close your eyes.

I'm just going to congratulate you and anyone else that was against any changes for effectively killing off another piece of instanced content. Congratulations, I hope you enjoy what you've reaped time and time again.

I'll certainly enjoy my time with the better balanced public version once it re-releases.
