Is Scourge healer always declined ?

Hello people,

I am a returning player. I play on EU. Never played in raids and would love to try out this part of the game.

I am a healer at heart, and I love my Necromancer Asura. So naturally, I was excited to shield all my raid and literally bleed myself for them.

I started to look for traning raid but from what I can see, Scourge healer is not welcome. Is it just my bad luck, not finding the right training raid yet or is this always the case ?

Thanks a lot for your answers :)

Scourge makes a good secondary or tertiary healer, but it's awful as a primary pick.  The main reason for that is because Healbrands and Druids, the two most commonly used healers, offer far more to the party than just healing.  Heal Scourge only makes sure people don't die.

Now, it's very good at that, but it just can't compare with squad Quickness+ Stability/full Might + spirits, etc in addition to the group healing.

I'd build plaguedoc scourge instead. There's very little reason to run full heal scourge unless your squad is absolutely terrible. With the new quickness scrapper having function gyro by default, it is only a decent pick if more than one person goes down often.

Plaguedoctor scourge does ~27K DPS post torment changes, before that full Viper scourge did ~29K benchmark and ~37K after torment changes.

Firebrand doesn't need healing power to offer those boons. Druid will play healer, but you are better off with scourge as your secondary.

The only reason not to take a healscourge was because condi scourge still had tons of barrier access in dps gear, but that was changed.

Especially in training squads, the commander would be stupid to turn down a carrying build like healscourge and prioritise group dps.

Scourge is a god  scourge tier off-healer. He sucks at main healer's job - doing huge heals and throwing boons left and right.
But is absolute beast as off-healer, due to his fat party barriers and ressing, giving your raid a susain wombo-combo.

When a 13k red circle of death has it's way with a 11k hp ele, no amount of healing will make him "walk it off". But slab a nice 3k barrier on him and he lives, provided main healer is doing his job. If not, scourge can quickly pull the poor guy outta red zone of death and quickly ress him.

Additionally scourge (once mastered) is knows for  having very reliable ranged damage. It's one thing to do rotations on golem, it's another vs moving boss that will just leave your aoe of death second after you cast it, or jump around the map like a rabbit on crack, making you totally lose dps, because you're busy running instead of hitting. A scourge that knows his job and enounter can circumvent a lot of these issues and keep his dps quite high and steady given unfavorable conditions.

For that reason scourge is often played as offensive support with mix of condi and healing stats (possibly boon duration too).
Gear stats like plaguedoctor' or  shaman are orders of the day for scourges.
