TheLadyOfTheRings.9148
Hey everyone. So, this has bothered me for too long and I'm finally sharing it here. I've noticed at least one big lore inconsistency in-game, in this case regarding the sylvari. On the official Guild Wars 2 sylvari page we can read: Quote Sylvari are not born. They awaken beneath the Pale Tree with knowledge gleaned in their pre-life Dream. However, talking to Nairne - a sylvari NPC in Wayfarer Foothills - and after asking "What's the Pale Tree?", she answers: Quote The tree where I was born. The land is warm and green there. But this place has its own beauty. I love them both! Another big mistake in this particular interaction is that the question "What's the Pale Tree?" remains even for sylvari characters, which is absurd x) Have you noticed any other lore inconsistencies in-game?
Lord Trejgon.2809
I would not count that one as lore inconsistency. First claim is for players who has common knowledge of what "being born" means. Second one is a statement from a character that either knows no better word to name it, or was tired trying to explain everyone met how new sylvari are made, and decided to go for closest equivalent. Option to ask about pale tree by sylvari characters may be an oversight. 4
Dawdler.8521
Keep in mind most of them where born yesterday and fell head first. I wouldnt trust them to know the difference. 3

That's correct. It's just that character's way of saying "here's where I entered this world." They don't literally mean, "I was birthed like a mammal." I could see why some folks would look at this as an inconsistency, though, but it's meant to be a figure of speech that the rest of Tyria uses. We show that same response to sylvari player characters because new players might need the info. In hindsight, it should probably have been rephrased for sylvari PCs (if sylvari, say this...else say the other thing) but the writer or designer probably forgot about it. Not a huge deal but more of a polish thing.

Amanda Whitemoon.6173
i still hope they change back where sylvari started in the beginning, under the pods in caladon, naked and you talk to the guy to get your armor back you had in the prologue story

Apparently, not being clothed instantly to fit the lore was too confusing to new players, so it got changed in the New Player Experience that reduced so much early level gameplay. Even though simply walking away would clothe you as well as talking to the NPC with a green star... 1

Really dumbed some of the flavor down. 2
ASP.8093
Joke's on them, I take my character's clothes off when I start a sylvari character for maximum roleplay. 4
