New Warrior Elite Spec: Bladesworn

Hope they show some interesting mechanic like merging your sword and gun together like thief can dual wield weapons with different skills. If it's just holoforge kit but instead of lightsaber its a gunsaber that's just eh. But I suppose creating unique combinations for every warrior weapon would be too much work for Anet....

Nevermind that Ele probably gets 20 new weapon skills with hammer.

dude we are talking about a character concept, don't be a wikipedia kinda guy. I can ask a thousand people to draw a Samurai and trust me you won't find one holding a gun easily. If ANET did base this character on a samurai i don't think guns is particularly what represents one.

The concept of this class is more about GW2 world's Samurai adopting to the more modern era of Cantha due to their technology advancements.

As the trailer said, with new technology in Cantha comes with new additions to the arsenal of weapons for the Warriors of Cantha. In this case, the warriors of Cantha who are skilled with Samurai style combat, added the GunSaber which allows them to still use their Samurai style sword skills while adding in a attached fire arm to the blade.

It actually represented, in a way, how Samurai in Japan also added guns to their arsenal of weapons as well when firearms became introduced as they had to adapt to the changes in war in Japan from the advancements of new weapons.

Didn't we recently have a discussion where you were saying that warrior had plenty of support on core?

I'm stating reality here. I know that some people are really allergic to the idea of a warrior elite specialisation being focused on support, and I'd agree that it looks like this one isn't (pistol apparently being offhand-only is the real killing blow there, since it means that the specialisation weapon is competing with warhorn rather than being a weapon you'd use with warhorn), but the truth is that for high-end PvE, being able to fill multiple roles, including support, is a much more solid basis for getting spots in groups than multiple DPS specs. Particularly since there's often a clear "this is the best DPS against this boss" build for any given boss, and once that build is identified, the optimal group for that boss becomes "have all or nearly all of your DPS spots be filled with that build".

Hopefully this specialisation will be fun in competitive and avoid some of the weaknesses that berserker has, but unless it happens to be top DPS against at least one boss, it's probably not going to do a lot to help warriors get groups in PvE. So "it's not support" isn't really something to gloat over.

PS Particularly since it looks like thief might be getting a support spec, however much some people in the thief community might kick and scream over that.

No we didn't have this discussion. Again I never told that warrior had plenty support capacity on core. Don't mislead my words again. I won't extend conversation to this topic.

Warrior is fine on High-End PvE, you gonna find a group to finish it with your Warrior or not. If they want, I can change to another class just to finish one boss or one raid. I don't care... and just to finish here: 'I won't be a bannerslave too.'

The problem with warrior support its close to guardian, that is the hole problem. If they push warrior to be a support they gonna reach what guardians do.

My thoughts

1. Lose burst skills on all weapons, gain a new F1 and F2.  Adrenaline becomes "Flow".

2. F1 is Gun Saber.  It is a photon forge style kit that replaces your weapon skills.  Probably has a 10 second cooldown (Maybe 5 with discipline)

3. F2 is Dragon Trigger, which is the Iaijutsu quickdraw slash dash, which can be activated when you've built up enough flow, acting as a burst skill but only in Gun Saber mode.

4.  Utilities are the ammunition mentioned in the trailer, and work like thief poisons augmenting your Gun Saber attacks to do different things.  We see one example make the Gun Saber have extended range, like 300 range on a melee weapon.  The other had stun and vulnerability on it.

5.  Offhand Pistol kind of a throwaway afterthought.

Seems pretty clear to me from the trailer.

Gunblades are completely historical, guys. Samurais actually used gun-katanas. It's a fact. Yes, they may have been muzzle loading arquebuskatanas, but it is certainly factual. And clearly Cantha is based on Sengoku period Japan and this class is based on the Takeda samurai gunblade that was often the weapon of choice. It's said that Oda Nobunaga won at Nagashino by using arquebuskatana equipped ashigaru to defeat the Takeda clan.

I'm pretty sure I saw one in a Kurosawa movie one time.

Watching it again, I think the cartridges will apply different conditions on the attacks based  on the F2-F5 toggled. The video was showing the 'Fire' cartridge with all the GunS aatacks applying burn.

I think there will be a water one that procs AoE healing per attack and/or chill, and Earth one that deals either bleed or poison per attack, and the air one will inflict either weakness or vulnerability.

Am I the only one not super amped about this? It's very unlikely to replace SpB in sPvP because of the inherent survivability that SpB brings. Offhand Pistol definitely won't be viable to replace shield, and nothing will ever replace GS for most builds because it's the only weapon that adds viable mobility and a couple of evade frames through GS3, especially when warrior is so extremely easily kited and has no real long range weapon that is worth a kitten.

Maybe Bladesworn will have some mobility while in form, but I doubt it will be enough to merit losing low-CD bursts that are an absolute necessity for doing damage on every warrior build.

It screams PvE spec, to me, and that's fine - I'm sure many people are ready to replace their Berserker banner slave with Bladesworn banner slave. It just doesn't seem like it's going to bring the warrior to where it needs to be to be competitive elsewhere.

Boring.. The level 0 of originality

I understand better why they introduced the mesmer specialization first, it's the only one that stands out a bit

Lolwut?  Virtuoso is like "What if we make the most vanilla magic user possible?"  Like nothing about it gels.  Gameplay it's as vanilla as possible.  It's theme is a jumbled mess of musical / performance themes, phantom blades, and psionic skills none of which feel like they are actually psionic.

In any case, it's the only one that has bringing entertainment to me.

The other specializations look like they came out of a game from the 90s. It's old-fashioned and soporific.

I fall asleep in front of the videos. But that doesn't surprise me, the dev who was in charge of specializations has left arena, you can really see it with the new ones

What?  Entertainment in how bad it is?  Heck we've already had hands on with Virtuoso and seen it's a complete dumpster fire in terms of how worthless it is in pvp and wvw.

So I'm guessing...

F1 - regular burst plus gun saber burst.

F2 - toggle in and out of gun saber mode like photon forge

The video mention cartridges, so I'm guessing gun saber skills 2 to 5 will use the ammo system. What I'm worried about now is pistol being offhand. It better be pretty kitten amazing for warriors to give up shield.

You misunderstood me, I mean it's the least pathetic of all

Which doesn't mean that I validate it

I can't say much before we see it on 17th but I wanna say that Gunsaber looks... I dunno... not so good looking on design wise.
Plus it's a kit weapon which mean there will be no skin for it. I wish they give it better design skin but I think that's final design already.

Yeah, for other similar kids like shroud and photon forge, they at least give you that visual aura that makes the mode look comprehensive and look good with whatever rainbow princess look you have going on underneath.
