Legendary Armour...

Just come back after wasting my time in WoW for 4+ years and was wondering: Is legendary armour that much different to ascended?

 

I understand the QoL features all legendary items have, but other than stat/rune/sigil swapping on the fly, is it any better?

Legendary armor has the exact same stats as ascended, that hasn't changed.

Legendary items simply allow free stat changing AND now are unlocked account wide for every character.

Legendary rune and sigils work with ascended items too, and yes they allow free removal (even from ascended items) and effect selection.

Yes.  Ascended is account bound.

You misunderstood though.  Legendary items don't have to be moved in inventory between characters anymore, like you'd still have to do with ascended.  The Legendary Armory is like a shared inventory for legendary items.  All you have to do is go into your equipment tab and select the legendary item to equip then set it's stats and runes/sigils/infusions.

Side note to people coming from wow.

WvW can 100% be played in exotics. 

Yes Ascended gives a stat increase, yes Legendary has the same stats as Ascended and stat swap feature. But they are not mandatory to be competitive* in the game mode. Just saying, don't stress over grinding out gear unless that's your thing.

This is a good reminder.  The stat increase from exotic to ascended/legendary on armor is something like 5% and for weapons it's 10%.  That increase shows up better on static targets like a PvE keep lord, but not so much in the dynamic and changing WvW fights environments.  What's more important is your knowledge of your skills and when to use them and your positioning.

Until you fight someone at your skill level, that kills you on exotic while you would kill him with 15% health left (because you had better counterpressure and could soak up more damage) on ascended gear.

15% is a significant difference.

And that happens in random chance encounters during the majority of the time one spends in WvW at what frequency?

15% is realistically speaking only a pve number against a stationary opponent in full zerk which is where it came from. This is because Power/Precision/Ferocity scale exponentially.

Toughness and Vitality scale only literally and toughness only prevents direct damage. Condition damage doesn't scale like that because of cleanses often negating expertise and definitely not healing gear. I suppose it means exotic celestial is kinda crappy, but then again you wouldn't be making celestial if you can only afford exotics.

 

Furthermore, full exotic isn't really a thing for anyone that's played the game for a few months because ascended amulets and rings can be gotten with laurels. Also, the most expensive parts (armor, backpiece) also contribute less stats relative to trinkets/weapons per piece.

So realistically speaking, the gap is pretty closer to 5%

Since we're still using the same stat numbers now, not much has changed. Also note the difference is further diminished by things like might and runes.
