Option to adjust particle effects with EoD

Considering how crazy you went with all the new effects, now is the perfect time to finally give us an option to adjust how much of that we wish to see on our screen.

I understand some people like not to be able to see their character under all of the shiny effects, but some of us like to see what we are doing and when NPCs are about to do some skills.

And we have been asking for this issue to be addressed for years.

Yet, you keep adding.

Still nowhere near as bad as FFXIV where you literally need to go see an ophthalmologist after every raid.

I get that you recently started playing GW2 after playing FF for who knows how long and are now amazed by many things here. But each game has it's audience. There are reasons I (and others) don't play FF.

Saying that something which isn't good is good just because something else is even worse is not the proper way to look at the problems.

This is an ongoing issue we have here. But instead of addressing it they are just making it worse with new specs.

The last one is from the old GW2 forum. (Yeah, we had that)

They did "address" this issue once in the past (someone might remember when and give some link) but it was nowhere near enough. And now they are making it even worse.

Oh, please let us adjust particle effects. If I could pare down everything to its bare essentials, including my own character's effects, I would be so happy. As it stands now, when my Mirage really kicks into high gear and starts wreaking havoc...she sort of disappears under all the flashy butterflies and bright bursts of light. I don't know how my Daredevil manages to punch, kick, or whack something with his staff so hard there's a massive flash of light every time something connects with the enemy (same for my ranger shooting arrows). Among other examples... Even turning down the graphics to low with no post-processing is nowhere near enough.

For that matter, being able to turn down *all* particle effects would be great. I even have glasses specially meant for computer work and my eyes still hurt after a while of playing in LWS4 maps, with the Branded lightning everywhere.

Lord yes! One of the reasons i hate the dogpile is all the visual clutter and effects. The game isnt fun to play that way, let us turn down or turn off player spell effects. Dont stand in the bosses aoe!! huh what aoe, I cant see anything but a swirling blob of rainbow unicorns vomiting glitter light beams and disco balls all over the screen.

Did you say "add more over the top, enormous particle effects to the game"? Because that's what we've got, judging from the teasers.

Please give me the feel of Beat Hazard while killing a single NPC. That's what i want in life. I want to feel like my mouse cursor has caused an explosion at a luminescent paint factory when i load into the game. Give me my heart's desires!

This. We badly need this setting because of everything that was said.

(We also need a setting to turn-off puking inducer effects common in LW4.)

I was trying to find the link to when was this last time checked and I just can't find it.

I remember someone said that they've manually "toned down" particle effects, they are happy with the results and will continue to monitor it. Rather than that I don't remember much.

And only stuff I did found is from 2013 and 2015 😕

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Can-anyone-really-see-through-the-clutter/page/4

"Improved Effects Culling

  • In the open world, dungeons, PvP, and WvW, the new effects-culling system will slowly start reducing the detail of each effect in order to increase combat visibility when many effect types are overlapping."

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-August-6th-2013

and this little piece from 2015
"Updated all profession impact and instant effects to play at a faster speed to reduce the time that they linger in order to help minimize their visual-effects noise."

Didn't play FFXIV for nearly as long as I did WoW and Starwars Galaxies. Also, I'm "new" to GW2 in the sense that I'm "back".

Archived forums - as proof, this is the official screenshot thread I created probably well before you even started playing the game.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/creations/Screenshot-Thread

I loved the graphics back then and I love them today and am perfectly happy with the particle effects. The particle effects are a step above WoW and several steps below FFXIV which, IMO, is the sweet spot.

I am NOT saying we shouldn't have a slider, I am not against that idea for those that want to tone things down. Simply stating that let's not use hyperbole to express your opinions. The particle effects are nowhere near as bad as a game which does indeed have a particle effect/effects in general issue.

Again, your point is? We should be grateful is not as bad as it is there and stop asking for improvement?
